Don't Make Me Use The Bat
I think what actually surprised me the most was that the people not familiar with it were both well aware of who Dido was and yet surprised that this song existed. While Dido's song did come out 2 years before "Stan", it was only after "Stan" that Dido was all the sudden doing the tune on SNL and the late night talk show circuit and getting heavy airplay.

Just did not cross to the same degree that certain other songs that will not go named for the purposes of this draft did. In fact it really wasn't until his next album that the singles consistently registered across as far as I could tell. What does surprise me is not knowing that this played some sort of role in Dido's rise to fame. The song was NOT on anything I was listening to at the time, but when Dido came splashing through its one of those factoids you might have picked up (in fact I rather suspect I must have heard about it at some point and just did not care enough foir it to register).

Well, we are flying here, and far be it from me to slow us down. So coming with my own fun one hit wonder:

I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) - Proclaimers - Sunshine on Leith (1988)*
Again, seriously???? I never thought my list would be picked clean like this. This sucks. Losing Reaper was one thing...I'm just plain depressed after losing this one.

Thats why i don't keep a pre-determined list....I just find a song on the fly when its my turn, that way you never get disappointed when someone steals your song away :)

Ack! Now I am NOT requesting any further extension above 30, but this remains brutal. My most recent cut down still leaves me at 32, with 13 more for which I would love to find room. Far from trimming the fat, this is down to trimming internal organs.

SWEET DREAMS - Marilyn Manson - Smells Like Children

This is perhaps the best cover song ever made. The video itself is almost as good.

I'm pretty sure we, well all of us but the spontaneous pickers, are all in the same boat really. I don't see how this draft is any different from any of the others were a list of favorites as long as the list you picked will be left over at the end. I don't get why its such a problem this time around.

Hell, why don't you take a page from a few of the people's books on here. Get your list of 32 or whatever into a playlist on iTunes. Turn shuffle on and skip it to the next pick so that fate decides your picks and you don't have to sit there every time wracking your brain.

Ok for the next song. I am changing gears somewhat. I might surprise everybody with this change of direction.

Silk - Freak Me - Lose Control

I had fond memories of this song. It was part of my mix tape back in the day.

I think some people are role playing this a little too seriously, as if they don't get their pick they'll never hear the song again. It would be easy to go 50-100 on this one, but that would push other drafts back. I'm glad we bumped to 30 just because its an even number and those of us at the tail end of the draft don't get cheated out of our last dance at the head of the snake.

Haha, and I thought Massachusetts calling him Eminen was bad....

And, oh, I only had like 40 channels growing up, and never watched MTV. That song was just big. But I think we've talked about it enough now.
I know that's not "proper", but I really didn't care.... :p

Like I said I have fond memories of this song. I loved that mix tape, as matter of fact my next three singles are from that tape. I hope you enjoy them I know I did back then. That mix tape never failed me:p:D

What's not to like in that video. Once you saw some one ride a pig you knew it was going to be a classic

Don't worry...I plan on knocking a few out of your list for you.

:p

Loser - Beck - Mellow Gold (1994)

I am departing here from my iTune stats as they are getting less reliable. My shower song.

Ok, back for a classic:

[yt=You Shook Me All Night Long - AC/DC]Bomv-6CJSfM[/yt]

You Shook Me All Night Long - AC/DC - Back in Black (1980)

I think that if you were to boil rock and roll down to its most basic essence -- remove all the punk, the pop, the progressive, the alt, the whatever and just leave the heart -- it would sound something like this song. Bump, grind, girls and power chords, and its primitive crank it up appeal never goes out of style. Its the sort of song when people comment on it they usually say nothing more articulate than "yeah! ****ing rock n' roll baby!" People were bombing in AC/DC picks left and right there early (all worthy songs), so I feel lucky to skate on in here with my own fav this late. Also the first song of mine in this draft that I also drafted in the album draft.

With my ninth pick, I select White Horse (12" version) by Laid Back. The thing that I found most enlightening about this pick was that I didn't know until last week that Laid Back is white, and not even from the United States.

Relax- Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Bang!: The Greatest Hits Of Frankie Goes To Hollywood

I'll look for a youtube at home as I'm unsure of what a video to this song :eek:might look like and I'm at work.

sure enough there's a banned video too..

:(. I knew I should've picked the classics before I picked Long Way To The Top. You're really sticking it to me for taking Hotel California aren't you?:p
Oh well, I can name 30 AC/DC songs off the top of my head that I still might take later on

Back to the classics for me as well. I actually didn't think this song would drop as far as it did, so I feel lucky to take it here

Smoke On The Water - Deep Purple - Machine Head

Probably the most recognizable guitar riff ever. When they were making this album, their studio was set on fire, and this is actually what this song is about. Great song.
