Not only that, but after heavily sampling her song he convinced her that being on the toilet with her pants down in the video would be a good idea :D

Well that was interesting --that's one way to get aroudn the stealin....er...I mean sampling issue -- just bring in the artist who wrote the original song and make her a part of the project. Its really almost more of a remix of Dido's song with a severely twisted rap track over the top.
Yeah, why the heck would you want to do that to a Dido song???? Didn't care much for the rap, either....

I was hoping my launchcast would get around to this one:

Katrina and the Waves- Walking on Sunshine - Living In Oblivion: The 80's Greatest Hits, Vol. 2

:D This is the original video from the 80s it looks like:

It seemed like even if you tried to avoid that song it was inescapable.

define inescapable -- its not radio friendly in content or length, and so unless you're on a channel where Eminem would get rotation play its unlikely just to be dropped in. When it came out I was moving beyond the age of clubbing (a pointless exercise for me anyway), quit watching MTV once they dropped the M from their name, and working 12 hours a day in a workplace enviroment where the only people who could get away with playing that song publicly would be the mail room guys.

You want rap, I'll give you rap; I actually want the album version of this song, but I'll leave you all with the radio/video edit:

Well, we are flying here, and far be it from me to slow us down. So coming with my own fun one hit wonder:

[yt=I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) - Proclaimers]KZojpl-p_5A[/yt]

I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) - Proclaimers - Sunshine on Leith (1988)*

Just an impossibly catchy and bouncy song. You listen to it, and you just can't get it out of your head for days. And its had more lives than your cat (hence the asterisk). Was a minor hit back in '89. Got picked up on the movie soundtrack to Benny and Joon in '93, and shot all the way to #3 on the U.S. charts. Gets rereleased on a compilation album in 2007 and shoots back up to #1 in the U.K.. etc. Just fun.

I love this song, haha. I had heard it when i was younger alot but at the time i was not really in to music and such. So a couple months ago i saw it on a 1 hit wonder show on one of them music channels and went and downloaded it. They look super nerdy, but its good.

It was on the radio non stop where I lived on both the hip hop oriented and alternative flavored stations, and all of my coworkers at the time listened to it - and these were all young hungry professionals - either engineers, account managers or sales types. When I traveled for work it was on the stations in virtually every city I went to. Obviously, not my taste in music, but I could not get away from that tune.

Ahhhh...yeah,you gotta go extended version or album on this one to get the full effect of this danceable genius....

And you know, whenever I see Hennessey somewhere, I always find myself singing the line from this song. :)

This is the second song ipod roulette has let get away from me...oh well...I can just repeatedly click the youtube link. This draft is soo much cooler than the movie and album one like that. All the music is, well right here

It actually used to be played on the radio quite a bit. Many consider it to be one of his best songs he's ever written (myself included), twisted lyrics aside.

Just doing a bit of research, and came up with this, from Wiki:

"Stan" has been listed by many as one of the greatest hip-hop songs of all time. It was ranked #3 on a list of the greatest rap songs in history by Q magazine[2], and came in 10th in a similar survey conducted by Top40-Charts.com.[3]. Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time ranked it #290, one of Eminem's two songs on the list along with "Lose Yourself." It ranked #45 on the 100 Greatest Rap Songs[4]
It has also been called Eminem's best song

I think what actually surprised me the most was that the people not familiar with it were both well aware of who Dido was and yet surprised that this song existed. While Dido's song did come out 2 years before "Stan", it was only after "Stan" that Dido was all the sudden doing the tune on SNL and the late night talk show circuit and getting heavy airplay.

Yeah I agree. I'm the opposite, and never knew it was Dido's song until a while AFTER I heard Stan. Because you're right, once Stan was released, Dido's song was being played more frequently

Oh, I was well aware of who M&M was, I just didn't listen to his stuff. Other than the little ""twist" at the end of the song, there is really nothing remarkable about it lyrically or musically to me, other than the inclusion of Dido's music in it, of course.

And when I heard Dido on the radio, etc, nobody was saying "Here is the latest Dido song, which also happens to be in an M&M song as well"....

I never really watched SNL or watched the late night talk shows - most were pretty stupid with little clever bits once in a while. I never found SNL to be as humorous as many others seemed to. I also didn't grow up with MTV or VH1 in the house - we lived out in the country and just got OTA channels. I really had no exposure to cable until college, and I was way too busy studying/going to class/doing things outdoors to spend much time watching TV.

Not everyone here is 18-20 years old and grew up watching 250 channels. ;)
