Well, as far as my Halloween costumes, I was "Lucky Star" era, "Who's That Girl?" era, "Like a Prayer" era, "Vogue" era, and Breathless Mahoney. As far as preference... don't really have one. I was just the perfect age of 80's kid to have completely idolized all of her looks/styles.
I've largely grown out of it, thank goodness.

Jay - Z - The Blueprint (2001)
No surprises here, sticking with another rap classic (IMO). Features some great tracks and my favourite album from one of the few good mainstream rappers left. There are a number of Jay-Z albums I could've chosen, but I went with this one. I also believe I'm the first to pick an album from the '00s? Wahoo!
Atxrocker, I have a feeling that the album you're talking about is possible The Eminem Show? If so, it was definitely one I was considering but I left it just incase it is the one you're thinking of. I've already accidentally stole two off tradepeja

Even though I feel like I cheated, my pick is in line with all rules set by Slim. It's live, it was recorded in one performance. It was an acoustic set and I don't think my island would be right without it. It includes classics and covers alike, and has enough greatness to go around.

Prince - Sign O' The Times (1987)
With the aforementioned “Purple Rain” expected to not be available when I picked again…this was my Prince Rogers Nelson legal choice –had I lost this one I might have been screwed as far as having any Prince on my island. If I had my druthers I would take a few compilations or my Prince-o-phile sister’s collection and call it good. Sign tho, to me was his best since PR. “Housequake” gave me a line I still use when I’m exasperated…“Shut up already…damn!” The title track spoke to the state of the world at the time with a lot of exacerbation. The rest of the double disc set had the duet with Sheena Easton “U Got the Look” the varied sounds of “Hot Thing” to “Adore” the very interesting lyrics of “If I Were Your Girlfriend” and “Strange Relationship” - This one had him in his many moods and experimentations with styles. The music world, and my desert island is better because of it.

On to round four
Here's where it got dicey for me..I had two albums from which to pick one and hope the other got back to me in round 5. I looked at the song tracks one last time and made this selection (ok, I panicked...there, I said it) and hope the album I also really want is there when I pick again... :fingers crossed:
Janet Jackson- Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989)
When my #1 Madonna was snatched up, I didn’t see Janet (Ms. Jackson for those of you still nasty) lasting to my picks in rounds 5 and 6.
Rhythm Nation from start to finish kicks it and it still stands up. When I stared at the track list again as it got closer to my being on the clock, I knew I couldn’t lose this one, so much from this album sits in various playlists I created to load on my ipod for various workout and race purposes. Since my ipod also contains tracks from no fewer than 4 of her albums in general, this clearly made Rhythm the selection if I couldn’t take compilations and mixes. It had a social consciousness to it, in addition to the great music…”Love Will Never Do Without You” and “Alright” probably top my take-aways from this album if for no reason than the videos alone and my memories of this tour. The mental images will help if there is also no tv on this forsaken island. But, "Black Cat" "State of the World" "Miss You Much" and the title track? The whole package was tremendous and still is…seriously.
(I will now hum "Come Back To Me" in tribute to the album I left exposed for two more rounds)

Yeah, Unplugged in NY is amazing. I almost used it over Nevermind, but obviously didn't. I love it because not only do you get to hear almost every one of their best songs played live and acoustically, but theres some very awesome covers like Lake of Fire, Plateau, and my favorite, Where Did You Sleep Last Night?. Its gonna suck on my island w/o them.

Wu Tang Clan- Enter the Wu Tang (36 chambers)
This album was just flat out amazing. I remember when first came out how in awe I was of it. I listened to the lyrics and memorized it word for word. I am picking this album because if I had to pick only one hip hop album to take to this island of mine, this would be it.

Wow. You gotta be a true diehard to use this as your Rush album. It took me awhile to appreciate it (and I definitely wasn't sober when I "got it"-- that's for sure), but it's not exactly at the top of the list for most Rush fans. But I'd sure want a 20-minute song serenaded to me too.
They're strolling through Idaho next week thankfully. I was spoiled and had seen them enough in L.A. to where I wasn't exactly compelled to see them again whenever they strolled through town. But here in Idaho, YOU TAKE WHAT YOU CAN GET. I don't know why more bands stop here given all the CA transplants that keep moving here. If a band decides to stop their tour here in between Portland and Salt Lake City, you have to support them if you even remotely like them.

The Fray - How to Save A Life
I love this album. It brings back alot of recent memories. Capped off by the fact that I got to see them live and got up as close to the stage as is possible. I could almost touch Isaac (not that I'm condoning touching him). They're amazing live and Isaacs voice is great. Probably would have lasted for a lot more rounds, but what the hell!
My next pick is ;

It's tough call between Doolittle and "one other album", but I fully intend on estabilishing an independent nation on my island and avoiding rescue missions at all costs. To that effect I will need a national anthem and "Monkey Gone To Heaven" is it!
This is a band that their own producer called "dumb college rock band" and snobs at pitchforkmedia.com "proclaimed" most influential alt rock band _evah_. Both are wrong, but the band is still great and this is my favorite album of them. I could probably pick it later, but I don't trust you people anymore with anything!

Man, I'll say it again, I'm surprised (and very glad) this is still here.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - (pronounced 'lĕh-'nérd 'skin-'nérd) - 1973
Definitely the strangest named album on the list here so far, but one of the best. Skynyrd's debut album was from top to bottom awesome. Nearly every song on its great, albeit short, track list is a rock classic. Hits like Gimme Three Steps, I Ain't the One, and Tuesday's Gone would usually be enough on the normal album, but then this record finishes off with two of my favorite rock songs, Simple Man and Free Bird. The latter becoming an otherworldly rock hit, Wikipedia had this to say about it:
Its certainly the kind of cliche that I don't find annoying at all. But you want to know my favorite thing about this album? It doesn't include Sweet Home Alabama. Its not like I don't like the song, its a good song, but I have heard it probably 1000 times more than any human on this planet should have to. For some reason, people think its some sort of California Central Valley anthem.
ITS ABOUT ALABAMA PEOPLE. ITS END THE TITLE!
Anyway, /rant, if you haven't listened to this album, do it now.

Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind
Between Piece of Mind and its follow up Powerslave, Iron Maiden really hit their peak. Since Live After Death is off the table due to being recorded over the course of multiple stops on the World Slavery Tour I agonized a bit over the two.
Piece of Mind introduced the seminal Maiden lineup with the addition of Nikko McBrain on drums and features favorites such as "The Trooper", "Die With Your Boots On", "The Flight of Icarus" and "Revelations".
What pushes it over for me however are the deep cuts, particularly "Still Life" which stands out against most of Maiden's other material and is one of my favorite tracks on the album. "Sun and Steel" is another favorite which always conjures up spectacular images in my mind.

Lead Singer Adam Duritz may have the most recognizable voice of the 90's. He poors his heart and soul out into every song he writes, giving us a unique look at his relationships. Duritz is on the small list of my favorite rock singers. I wouldn't last on the desert island without Counting Crows, and my selection absolutely has to include their debut.
