David Goyer will direct Magneto, the X-Men spinoff movie that will center on the villain played by Ian McKellen, for 20th Century Fox and Marvel Studios, Variety reported.
Magneto is the second X-Men spinoff to go into production; the first was Wolverine, based on a script by David Benioff, which will star Hugh Jackman as the steel-clawed mutant.

Spotnitz:
X-Files 2 In Works
Former
The X-Files executive producer Frank Spotnitz confirmed on his official
blog that a second movie is in the works. "It's true," Spotnitz wrote on April 17.
"Several people have e-mailed to ask about reports that the second
X-Files feature is finally in the works," Spotnitz wrote. "A script is indeed in development, but I'm afraid that's all I can say. Thanks for your good wishes and support all these years."
Spotnitz, a longtime
X-Files producer and writer, also came up with the story for the first
X-Files movie in 1998 with series creator Chris Carter.
In recent weeks, former star David Duchovny has said the second film is moving forward and that an announcement may come soon. His co-star, Gillian Anderson, has expressed interest in returning to her role as FBI agent Dana Scully, alongside Duchovny's Fox Mulder.
