So Ordinary That It's Truly Quite Extraordinary

Allegedly the AI stylists have taken Sanjaya's hair as their pet project each week and the poor kid doesn't have any input on it. Then the judges take turns taking pot shots at it. No wonder he's not enjoying it.

Right now amongst the four that ranked it is unanimous. First place votes in parenthesis.

Kingsfans.com American Idol Power Rankings (after Week 1)
1. Melinda Doolittle (4) - 44
2. Lakisha (KiKi) Jones - 40
3. Blake Lewis - 35
4. Jordin Sparks - 32
5. Stephanie Edwards - 26
6. Gina Glocksen - 23
7. Phil Stacey - 22
8. Chris Sligh - 18

SIDE NOTE: I will go on the record by predicting that Blake Lewis will sing "She Blinded Me With Science by Thomas Dolby (DO YA'LL REMEMBER THAT CLASSIC?) :D

This was tough! I tried very hard to base my rankings on how I feel they did tonight. I suspect mine will be drastically different than some others but that's what makes the music business. ;)

1. Melinda
2. Jordin
3. Blake
4. LaKisha

And then the rest:

5. Chris S.
6. Gina
7. Stephanie
8. Hayley
9. Phil
10. Chris R.
11. Sanjaya

SLAB

Hall of Famer
Haley (Inc) --- Didn't catch her performance...The recap didn't blow me away, but I still wont pass judgment on what she did.

Chris R. (D+) --- One of two letdowns for me...Chris is a performer, and it seemed like he was out of his comfort level...Hos vocals are not that great, so he needs to rely on his showmanship and charisma to pull his as far as he can get,

Stephanie (C) --- She definitly wasn't bad, but she didn't stand out to me...If I cannot distinguish you from the rest of the group, you aren't cutting it for me.

Blake (A) --- Blake is great...HE is a born performer, and that is 50% of this competition...You need to do something to make yourself stand out from the rest, and with his dancing and beat-boxing Blake has done that. Top 3 talent here, easy...And I've been touting him from the beginning!

Lakisha (D) --- The other letdown of the night...She did not sound good to me at all, and my sister said something that, although it sounds pretty lame, made a me think..."She sounds mean...A lot like Ursela from The Little Mermaid."

Phil (B+) --- I loved his performance tonight...The song and energy went perfect together, and I loved how he use his voice when he changed his pitches...One of the standouts, for me at least.

Jordin (C+) --- I loved the vocals, but the stage presense just wasn't there for me...The signing is good enough to pull her through.

Sanjaya (D- / B) --- It doesnt make any sense, right? Well the first grade is in regards to the rest of the field , and the second is in regrd to his normal performance...He did good for Sanaya, but not for American Idol.

Gina (C+) --- Vocals were iffy, yet I sense something good for her...She reminds me a lot of Kelly Clarkson in the way she performs and presents herself on stage...If you dont believe me look at Kelly's performance from the Daytona 500 this year...She rocks out...Plus she is incredibly HOT!

Chris S. (B) --- A lot better than last week...Once again he PERFORMED really well, and I dont know about the rest of this board or the country, but that is huge for me. Good vocals paired with a good performance is so much better for the competition.

Melinda (A) --- The other standout of the night...Her voice is incredible...Without a doubt...I really wish she had more of an American Idol look, though! She is so generic looking...But thats a small complaint when you sing like she does.

My Rankings for this week.

1: Blake (Bar none, best performer)
2: Melinda (Best singer)
3: Jordin (Great vocals)
4: Chris S. (He does not look like he should sound like this!)
5: Gina (She has intriguing talent)
6: Phil (Does he have what it takes?? I'm not so sure)
7: Lakisha (Huge let down for me)
8: Stephanie (Blended in too much...Undistinctive)
9: Chris R. (Be a performer, it's your best chance)
10: Sanjaya (He's not on their level)

(Hayley left out because I can't pass a fair grade for her as I didnt see her)

My predictions for the bottom three: Stephanie, Chris, and Gina and Stephanie is voted off.

The girl was crying because Sanjaya is sooooo dreamy. Which means Stephanie will go home this week. I think Haley bought herself a week or two by being the hot white girl she was cast as. She's not long for the contest either though.

Melinda was perfection on that stage. That girl makes me cry. She has it all.

Blake-Oh, ma Gah!! What a showstopper. He was fantastic. Perfect sound for that song. LOVED IT!!!

Jordan- She looked gorgeous. She sang even better. She was awesome last night.

Hailey-That girl has got some nice gams. WOW WOW WOW. She looked dynamite and sang great. One of her best.

Lakisha-Fine. Disappointing. Not bad but not great. Should’ve wailed the other song.

Phil-I thought he did very well. Needs to wear a hat though.

Chris S.-Forgettable. He hasn’t wowed me in awhile.

Chris R-NASAL NASAL NASAL. Hated it.

Stephanie-One of my all time favorite songs and she ruined it. HORRIBLE.

Sanjayah-Loved it. Finally came out of his shell and basically said up yours to everyone. Enjoyed it very much, but he still needs to go.

Lu Lu is a little cutey pie and Peter Noone still looks good. Loved the theme.

Melinda and Blake for me, too. Melinda is an incredible singer and consistently so. Blake was fabulous. He is the entire package! That kid will make it with or without winning this competition. I loved the way he sang that song (my teen years - the 60's).

LaKisha disappointed. She has a great voice, but she isn't consistent like Melinda.

Oh, and I thought that girl was crying over Sanjaya, too....until they showed her crying during every performance. Definitely reminded me of all the crying girls during the actual 60's British Invasion. LOL

Last night was a strangly entertaining show. Sanjay. The little girl crying. I thought the star of the night was Lulu. Who is she? Man, she can sing and she has a lot of energy and was one of the best mentors I have seen on the show. Wtih that said.....

PERFORMANCE OF THE NIGHT - Blake Lewis (A)
This guy is cool as hell!!! That was a great song choice, and his vocals were spot on point. He is not a dynamic singer, but he is an electric performer that seems to be born to be on the stage.

The rest in order......

Haley Scarnato (C)
Her voice is so shallow that I would hit my head if I dove into it. With that siad, she was OK. She got a lot of attention with her Stockton Blvd look (those that live in South Sac know where I am going with that:rolleyes: ) This was her best performance, however that is not saying much.

Chris Richardson (B)
Also his best performance. I am not a fan of his, but he sang with no mistakes, under control. He can not help but to be nasaly which is rather annoying. In my view he is a terrible dresser. He looks like he should be on a bicycle delivering my newspaper.

Stephanie Edwards (C-)
I had to think about this performance to come up with a good critique. And the more I thought about it the worst the performance got. I CAN NOT HELP BUT HEAR BEYONCE. And that is not a good thing, because she tends to try to bend her notes and misses. Both Paula and Simon said she is losing her passion, drive and energy. I think that at just 19 and competing against the older, more talented Lakisha and melinda is wearing her down.

Lakisha Jones (B+)
I completely disagree with a previous poster on her performance. She was very, very good. Not the Lakisha of the past few weeks, but still 10 times better than all but one or maybe two last night. She has this Nell Carter thing going on, and has serious stage presence. I don't know about her "singing angry". The judges were not very thrilled with the song choice, and neither was I. I am not ashamed to admit that I am somewhat biased towards her, because i have liked her since her audition.

Phil Stacey (B/B-)
Song did not fit his style, but he sounded good. I disagree with Simon, as far as him being in trouble. he did well enough to go through.

Jordin Sparks (A-)
Very dramatic. SENSATIONAL!!!! Very composed for 17, and is not fainting under the pressure of the big lights. She is moving up in the rankings.

Sanjay Malakar (B-)
WOW!!!! I was speechless after that performance. Sanjay really came out of the closet last night:p . Honestly, that was his best performance and he and little Ashley's performance will get him through this week. I don't think Sanjay is as bad as many think he is.

Gina Glocksen (C/C-)
Every week is the same with her. She dresses the same way and sings the same type songs, and she is becoming stale and predictable. Simon said she has "Style over Content", and I absolutely agree.

Chris Sligh (C)
See Gina. He is the worst performer in the group. Not the worst singer, he can sing al'ight. But he too is becoming stale and boring.

Melinda Doolittle (B+)
I was not as thrilled as the judges were. Don't get me wrong she was great as usual, i just did not love her as much as the judges did. Her old fashion image kind of showed last night (that was a horrible wig she had on). With that said, she sang a really boring song well and is still the lady to beat.

Predicted Bottom Three- Chris Sligh, Gina, Stephanie Edwards

Going Home - Stephanie Edwards

Purple Reign: I still think LaKisha is terrific and would name her, Melinda and Blake as my top three last night. I guess I just expect more and was vaguely disappointed. I didn't like the song choice, so that didn't help.

Melinda is lucky she has the voice she has, because I thought her song choice last week and this one were dreadfully boring. Great voice, tho.

Oh, for anyone that doesn't know, Lulu was probably most famous in the US for singing "To Sir, With Love."

I may be a cynical bastard but I was right.

Stephanie couldn't compete or distinguish herself from the other divas and people who appreciate and want that in their American Idol had 3 other superior contestants to choose from.

Wow. I am two for two on eliminations. Interesting. COME ON IDOL LOVERS. GIVE US YOUR RANKING.We got VF21, Slab and Daniela. Anybody else?

IT IS OFFICIAL, FROM TOP TO BOTTOM THIS IS THE WORST TOP TEN IN THE SHOW'S HISTORY. 1 through 4 is one of the best, but 5 on down leaves a lot to be desired.

3. Lakisha Jones
4. Jordin Sparks
5. Chris Sligh
6. Gina Glocksen
7. Phil Stacey

Okay, now I'm confused. I thought we usually did the rankings right after the performance show and before the "voting off" show. My rankings are still the same except you have to remove Stephanie from the equation, of course. I won't be re-ranking people until they sing again...

I don't think it matters. If you do your ranking before the vote off show, i just take the one voted off out of your ranking, and then adjust it accordingly.
