You guys really want Artest ???

I am hoping that, along with the suspensions of the players, the Detroit police make at least a couple of arrests. Some of those fans should have to face charges for what they did...

Yes and H_ _ _ yes. He backed away from Wallace to defuse a situation. Then would you lay down and be bombarded and not do something about it? Probably not. If you didn't,... well, ........ we have enough nice guys on the team now. Anyway, his scoring, rebounding and defense is second to none in the league. Peja is having trouble scoring, not getting any rebounds and tries his best at defense but is lagging.

Maybe a change of scenery for Artest will help. CWebb and BJax would embrace his style.

Artest will not be a Sacramento King. And no, Webber and Bobby would not "embrace his style." They both have a lot more class than that.

This macho posturing about "being disrespected" or "bombarded," etc. is just that. Macho bullbleep.

Doug Christie last night perhaps reflected the feelings of a lot of players in the league when he said to Grant upon seeing just a short piece of the clip, "Oh no. You don't do that. You don't go after the fans NO MATTER WHAT." He went on to talk about how he was pelted with things by the fans in Staples after his little encounter with Rick Fox, so he knows what he's talking about.

Artest backed away but then he sprawled on the table, laughing and taking in the spectacle. He wasn't defusing anything, IMHO. This was a basketball game - with children present. Impressionable children. Just because a fan acted like a total and complete fool was NO REASON for Artest to storm the stands and seek retribution.

I noticed Ron changed his number from 23 to 91 this year... anyone remember another crazy 91?
well ya know that IS why he did it right?

he really is the Dennis Rodman of this decade...ever try to describe Ron Artests personality to someone? I always end up with "think Dennis Rodman but slightly more complex"

back to the question at hand...

Id want his defensive capablities but the attitude could stay in Indy...but IVE ALWAYS said this about Artest...he can only be so good for so long before that blows up in your face...he's a ticking time bomb...and honestly if it came down to taking Ron Artest or leaving him...im always gonna leave him....i would never gamble on that persona of his

I think, now more than ever would be the best time to trade Peja for Artest. Even though Ron Ron may be a nutcase, he's tough and won't be shut down by some BS defenders like Hassell (or whatever his name is) and Bruce Bowen (even though he shuts down everybody). Peja's mentality is the worst basketball mentality I have ever seen ... that guy simply has no balls. I have yet to see a basketball player defer to others as Peja does. It's like he's too shy to ask for the ball. That's not championship mentality. You do not win championships with players that have Peja's mentality. I'd take the risk and shop Peja.

In all fairness, Artest was hit by Wallace and didn't retaliate. He chose to walk away, something a lot of players would NOT have done. Shortly after he was hit by a cup of beer...realistically, how much more can you take ? I would have lost it too.

Agreed, but as I said before, there is a point to being a PROFESSIONAL which says you don't jump into the stands like an idiot.

If you have a job at all you are a "Professional" at what you do. I don't give a damn if you pay money for the seat or what. If you come to watch me do my job and you throw a beer on me. You are going to take a kicked *** home with you.

I agree. Artest had done the right thing. The part of his brain that told him what was right and what was wrong apparently deserted him and is probably going to cost him a LOT of money.

It isn't a matter of only taking so much and then retaliating. He did the right thing in walking away. He did the wrong thing in going up into the stands. And the wrong thing is what is going to hurt him and his team.

So that's the answer? MORE stupidity and violence?

Someone has to be the grown-up in a situation like this. The fan was totally and completely wrong in what he did. That didn't give Artest the right to scramble up the seats into the stands.

Your hypothetical makes no sense whatsoever. If I'm a professional doing my job and someone throws a beer at me, I have them arrested.

DAMN!!!

My grand RealGM trade hypothetical to put together a three way trade between Indiana/Sacto/Memphis to send Bobby/Songaila/? to Indiana, Artest/Ostertag to Memphis, and Swift/Posey to Sacramento just fell apart because of some stupid trade restriction on Swift since he signed a one-year deal this year and will have Bird free agent rights next year. BOOOOO!!!!

Would have been SOOOOO cool too. :) We would have gotten a defensive swingman AND a top backup big guy, but no psycho. Course we wouold no longer have had a backup PG, but hey, details. :p

some of you are talking about trading peja still and i can't figure out if you are joking anymore.......

i was just thinking how much money is involved in this.
when a lot of money is involved it's never good.

Steve Kerr and most of the NBA players i have heard gave the same hypothetical. It may seem to "stupid" to you. But who are you to say what a grown up should act like? What you get to a certain age and you can't fight anymore?

What he did today has nothing to do with the trade. All we care about is what he does on the court. He is human and I wouldnt like beer in my eyes...
For someone like Artest we will have to assume a suspension of abt 10-15 games every season. Also there is a good probability that he might end up being suspended in the playoffs. So what he did does matter.

But having said that, its also true that the Pacers might be all the more eager to trade him now. So it should be interesting. They might even be ready to trade him for some other players. I mean they will be ready to work out some or the other deal.

I believe that a sensible adult should refrian from fighting and try to avoid it whenever possible; more so in the case of a professional player. That what you are supposed to do in a civilized world and let the law take care of these things.

What Artest did was completely insane. He didnt think abt the welfare of the innocent fans, who were definitely in trouble when a 6'7" 230-240 pound man is charging over them. There were children and old people over there.

Also he disregarded injuries to himself and team-mates and didn't think about the consequences of his actions on the team's season either.

Nothing justifies his actions.

Fighting solves all your problems, does it?

I'm glad for you.

If Wallace is in front of you and hitting most of the players would back off ;) And u dont really see him upset that often either. So when he is u know he means business.

from nba's pacers website, here are the five questions for ron artest (see question 2 and 4). no wonder he's been acting this way. he's a boxer trapped in a ball player body :D

http://www.nba.com/pacers/news/artest_page_0405.html

# Five Questions:
# What’s the most important thing a coach ever told you?
Team basketball wins.
# If you weren’t a pro basketball player, what pro sport would you be playing (and what position?)
I’d be a boxer.
# What’s your favorite charity/community memory?
Wheelchair Classic Charity. I also like to help others who can’t walk.
# Who is the most famous person you ever met?
Mike Tyson
# What reality show would you like to participate in and why?
Survivor. It pays the most.

agreed.

if that fan happened to be mike tyson, i wonder if artest would still jump on him.
so if who ever is bigger and badder survives, then most of us would not be alive now.
that situation called for something of a higher standard than animal instinct, artest failed to think of the consequences of his actions.
in no way was the fan's action justified, however, the way artest responded just added the fire to the firepowder, and it exploded.

i am interested to see how it all plays out. there's too much money involved. when there's a lot of money involved it's never good.

I was tipsy 24/7 throughout the weekend.

I can hardly remember writing this. Maybe we should wait 30 games before considering trades ;p

What the fan did was wrong. I understand that Artest was acting under emotion, but there is no reason for him to go up into the crowd like that. He did not even go after the right person. The players that went into the fans should be punished big time from the NBA. Now the fans that came onto the court looking for a fight, they deserve what the got and should go home and think about what idiots they are.

I do not know how many people on this site have kids, but I have a new daughter and I am happy to say that she can lookup to everyone of the players on the Kings as a positive role model. I am happy that we do not have a bunch of Thugs with bad attitudes on our team. Although the Kings may be soft, they are professional and they are good players that the next generation of NBA fans can lookup to.

I agree that what Artest did was unreasonable, and I think the fan should face circumstances as well. Players should be safe on the court!

I have kids, and while I can't say that I honestly think every Kings player is a positive role model in their personal lives, I think they're a lot better than most of the NBA.

this whole situation was just sad. The only positive thing I can see from it is that, since Artest is suspended for the rest of the season, this should effectively end the Pedja for Artest debate until at least next year!! And, from my perspective, hopefully for good.

Testy one

What we want is a guy who plays like Artest, but doesn't act like Artest. I love Artest on the court, who wouldn't? Does he make the Kings better on the court...absolutely. Does Peja make the Kings better....absolutely. Peja is soft and softness has what has held the Kings back.
We need a butt-kicker who just doesn't give a f**k.....a banger and shot-blocker who will hit the boards and knock someone's teeth out if necessary....that is the appeal of Artest, not to mention his defense. What no team needs is a loose cannon who has no self-restraint. With that said, if someone offered Jermaine O'Neal for any King.........everyone would do it in a second.

Peja is staying or at least won't be a Pacer. But if the right deal came around, Peja is not untouchable!
