well ya know that IS why he did it right?Mad D said:I noticed Ron changed his number from 23 to 91 this year... anyone remember another crazy 91?
In all fairness, Artest was hit by Wallace and didn't retaliate. He chose to walk away, something a lot of players would NOT have done. Shortly after he was hit by a cup of beer...realistically, how much more can you take ? I would have lost it too.VF21 said:Artest will not be a Sacramento King. And no, Webber and Bobby would not "embrace his style." They both have a lot more class than that.
This macho posturing about "being disrespected" or "bombarded," etc. is just that. Macho bullbleep.
Doug Christie last night perhaps reflected the feelings of a lot of players in the league when he said to Grant upon seeing just a short piece of the clip, "Oh no. You don't do that. You don't go after the fans NO MATTER WHAT." He went on to talk about how he was pelted with things by the fans in Staples after his little encounter with Rick Fox, so he knows what he's talking about.
Artest backed away but then he sprawled on the table, laughing and taking in the spectacle. He wasn't defusing anything, IMHO. This was a basketball game - with children present. Impressionable children. Just because a fan acted like a total and complete fool was NO REASON for Artest to storm the stands and seek retribution.
troosvelt said:Agreed, but as I said before, there is a point to being a PROFESSIONAL which says you don't jump into the stands like an idiot.
er...was this sarcasm or are you REALLY not feeling very well Stojakovic?Stojakovic said:I think, now more than ever would be the best time to trade Peja for Artest. Even though Ron Ron may be a nutcase, he's tough and won't be shut down by some BS defenders like Hassell (or whatever his name is) and Bruce Bowen (even though he shuts down everybody). Peja's mentality is the worst basketball mentality I have ever seen ... that guy simply has no balls. I have yet to see a basketball player defer to others as Peja does. It's like he's too shy to ask for the ball. That's not championship mentality. You do not win championships with players that have Peja's mentality. I'd take the risk and shop Peja.
I agree. Artest had done the right thing. The part of his brain that told him what was right and what was wrong apparently deserted him and is probably going to cost him a LOT of money.Stojakovic said:In all fairness, Artest was hit by Wallace and didn't retaliate. So that's the answer? MORE stupidity and violence?Entity said:If you have a job at all you are a "Professional" at what you do. I don't give a damn if you pay money for the seat or what. If you come to watch me do my job and you throw a beer on me. You are going to take a kicked *** home with you.
Steve Kerr and most of the NBA players i have heard gave the same hypothetical. It may seem to "stupid" to you. But who are you to say what a grown up should act like? What you get to a certain age and you can't fight anymore?VF21 said:So that's the answer? MORE stupidity and violence?
Someone has to be the grown-up in a situation like this. The fan was totally and completely wrong in what he did. That didn't give Artest the right to scramble up the seats into the stands.
Your hypothetical makes no sense whatsoever. If I'm a professional doing my job and someone throws a beer at me, I have them arrested.
For someone like Artest we will have to assume a suspension of abt 10-15 games every season. Also there is a good probability that he might end up being suspended in the playoffs. So what he did does matter.Bibby_Is_Clutch said:What he did today has nothing to do with the trade. All we care about is what he does on the court. He is human and I wouldnt like beer in my eyes...
I believe that a sensible adult should refrian from fighting and try to avoid it whenever possible; more so in the case of a professional player. That what you are supposed to do in a civilized world and let the law take care of these things.Entity said:Steve Kerr and most of the NBA players i have heard gave the same hypothetical. Fighting solves all your problems, does it?Entity said:Steve Kerr and most of the NBA players i have heard gave the same hypothetical. It may seem to "stupid" to you. But who are you to say what a grown up should act like? What you get to a certain age and you can't fight anymore?
If Wallace is in front of you and hitting most of the players would back offStojakovic said:In all fairness, Artest was hit by Wallace and didn't retaliate. I'm glad for you.

Crackerman said:What the fan did was wrong. I understand that Artest was acting under emotion, but there is no reason for him to go up into the crowd like that. He did not even go after the right person. The players that went into the fans should be punished big time from the NBA. Now the fans that came onto the court looking for a fight, they deserve what the got and should go home and think about what idiots they are.
I do not know how many people on this site have kids, but I have a new daughter and I am happy to say that she can lookup to everyone of the players on the Kings as a positive role model. I am happy that we do not have a bunch of Thugs with bad attitudes on our team. Although the Kings may be soft, they are professional and they are good players that the next generation of NBA fans can lookup to.
Yup2muchgame said:What we want is a guy who plays like Artest, but doesn't act like Artest. I love Artest on the court, who wouldn't? Does he make the Kings better on the court...absolutely. Does Peja make the Kings better....absolutely. Peja is soft and softness has what has held the Kings back.
We need a butt-kicker who just doesn't give a f**k.....a banger and shot-blocker who will hit the boards and knock someone's teeth out if necessary....that is the appeal of Artest, not to mention his defense. What no team needs is a loose cannon who has no self-restraint. With that said, if someone offered Jermaine O'Neal for any King.........everyone would do it in a second.
Peja is staying or at least won't be a Pacer. But if the right deal came around, Peja is not untouchable!
