Yahoo scouting videos are up

I mean, maybe Hawes can be a sort of shorter Ilgauskas, and yeah, he can absorb some contact and get his shot off, but I can't see him being anything other than a one-dimensional scoring guy. Not really big and strong enough to be a post defender, not athletic enough to be a shotblocker, couldn't even really rebound in college... I guess there's a reason people keep coming back to Brad Miller and Vlade Divac as the examples, but I don't know. Vlade had those extra couple of inches and the size, and Brad Miller was, once upon a time, a pretty strong rebounder and a banger in the post. I just can't see taking him with the 10th pick, particularly to join our front line.

he may be a one trick poney. That's certainly possible and been the concern all along. But at least you can see the trick. Think its a poor comparison just on overall skill and because of Mchale's incredible length, but there was of course the comparison sometimes made, and McHale, like Vlade, did not have to be much of an athlete to get the shots off because he was artist in there. The Brad comparisons I don't see at all, including when uttered by Hawes. Brad is a big weenie, and the only thing that I can be sure that Hawes can do in the NBA is precisely something that Brad never has been able to do.

I agree, I just don't think we really need that trick. We need the trick where our bigs can jump and hopefully do more than score.

A young post scoring big wouldn't be the end of the world. When SAR, Bibby, and Brad are gone, Kevin won't be able to do it by himself. We're going to need someone to get it done in the paint, and if Hawes can do that, he'll be valuable. #10 pick value? Maybe, maybe not.

As an aside, what do you think we'd have to send to the Clips to get Smith at #14? Bibby for Casell/Maggette works, and would balance the roster if Artest ended up going to Miami for JWill/Wright. Not sure if the Clips would pull the trigger, though. Maybe we'd have to take Tim Thomas instead (ugh).

Check out Glen Davis' video, the guy is pretty heavy but he can move. Pretty entertaining.

Huh, that was actually pretty interesting. Its too bad he's too short, because you're right, he really showed some stuff there for a big guy. Leading the break, throwing a behind the back bounce pass off the dribble? Squaring guys up out on the perimeter and juking them? That's pretty skilled stuff. Adn then of course the power -- bodies bouncing around and flying all over the place. Especially liked the one where he just lowered the shoulder and knocked the guy on his *** -- my kind of post move. :D

Does Brandan Wright know how to do anything else other than dunk on the offensive end?! A hook shot, fade away jumper???? Anything?

i love hawes' hook shot.. very very sexy hehehe...

also about Sean Williams... his timing and anticipation on blocking is amazing...! pretty much like justin williams? mabye a little taller and bulkier?

And more high unfortunately.

If he was just a serious athlete, he would be a nice late first/early 2nd gamble.

Not really, and when you combine that with his subpar combine results I'd say he's candidate numero uno for the mysterious draft day slide.

Huh?

Are we watching the same video? if anything it was relatively dunk free. layups, some primitive post moves, an open court pass...I'm halfway through and thik he's only had one dunk so far?

Not blown away by this vid, but the above critique seems odd given what I am watching.

That video of Thornton shows why I am so interested at Thorntons possibilities as a SF/PF. It has a lot of highlights from his big game against the Gators. Noah gets abused. They switch Horford on him. Horford gets abused. Then they try everybody they can on him.

You really don't want him. He's a pure scorer and that too a black hole. He makes guys like Jamal Crawford seem like Steve Nash. He's entirely one dimensional and his bball IQ is more on the down side.

Phenomenal scorer but really doesn't do anything else and doesn't play defense. I'd seriously pass on this guy.

He's got some Barkley moves in him. Him being short and having a short wingspan is what's going to keep him from being an all-star, but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that he can be a solid PF on the right team.

He has a nice little jump hook shot and he's got good form on his shot he just needs time to work on it and make it a consistent weapon. He's got a great touch and efficiency within 8 ft.

Completely agree.

Bullcrap, I have watched the guy play a lot. This is the type of player that makes an impact with or without the ball. He does just about anything you can do on a basketball court.

You may have watched him play a lot, and that might explian why you are a fan, but off of that video I have a very hard time seeing how you could conceive of him being even a parttime PF. He's at best average sized for even a SF, and skinny to boot. Green or Wright might be able to swing up sometimes, but this guy looks to be a pure SF. Whihc BTW might be a good thing since it eliminates the smallball temptation.

Wow... I watched a ton of those, and... couldn't they have come up with some different music? I swear, I heard one bad song at least 10 times, ended up turning the sound off half the time.

I saw some great basketball players, but none that are expected to be around by our turn. They're saying we get to pick between Law, maybe Noah, and several tweeners.

It's really sinking in how much we will be giving up from a couple of stupid wosses. Can we fire Muss again, just as an honorary sort of thing?

Jason Smith looked pretty good, but he wasn't exactly being vigilantly guarded most of the time. Hawes looked less bad than I'd expected, and reminded me more of LaFrentz than Miller (is that good or bad?), but if he's gone at 9 as projected, no matter.

I did see some guys that impressed me a lot as late picks. Taurean Green and Dominic James, for example. I hope that, if we can't trade up, at least we get a second rounder somehow.

What do you guys think of DeVon Hardin? I really like him, I think we should get a late 1st(maybe buy one from PHX) and draft him.

about glen davis... he's lost ALOT of fat...

i think its kinda unfair to compare him with tractor traylor (as some scouting sites do), he is alot more agile and can actually jump (although not that high, losing the weight has helped him)

he'll be a good pick up... only in the second round though...

i think he can be a solid bench player if he continues to work at it, and if possible lose more weight...

Corey Brewer's vid of course made all the other SFs look like they were going in slow motion. But one thing, especially when you watch them back to back to back -- with that body damn if I'm not sure if Brewer isn't an OG in the NBA, not a SF. LeBron plays SF inthe NBA. Artest plays SF in the NBA. Ron would eat Brewer alive, and ask for seconds.

That was the one thing you could gather from that Thaddeus Young vid -- incredible specimen, broad, rangy, they may be the same height but there's absolutley no comparion to aguy like Brewer, who is built kind of like Larry Huges with an extra inch or two. If he is an OG, wonder how that will effect where he gets drafted? Who among the top draft teams needs an OG? Not Atlanta, If Gay is an OG, not Memhphis. Not Boston. Minnesota next to Foye? Charlotte maybe with the failure of the 'Stache?
You've just got to love Brewer!!! If he slides, we got to get him. Yeah he is skinny and might never be a beast but he is more of a Tyshaun Prince build and he plays SF.

Either way, who ever gets Brewer is getting a very fine player.

Just adding in a few of the better youtube ones for guys that Yahoo missed (basically the non-U.S. guys):

Yi Jianlian video -- been around awhile, still the best reasonable length one (there is a good 9:00 one out there, but the sound is messed up).

Tiago Splitter video -- believe it or not this little 1:16 vid is the best I could find on Splitter. The oither pretty much sucked. Anyway, does not show much beyond the fact that he can dunk a lot, including the willingness and ability to do so behind his head.

Rudy Fernandez video -- guy is very long and a high riser. Of course reason he can get off the ground so easily is because Kevin could out arm wrestle him -- and I mean easy. I mean, Europe is first world, as a group as rich as the U.S., there is no excuse for having a guy look like he just got back from safari in Ethiopia. Feed the kid already!

Marco Bellinelli video -- I think I may need glasses -- I could have sworn I just saw a European player do a 360 dunk, in game. Impressive.

Ante Tomic video -- this....is just bad. If I were the player I would sue. It looks like a junior high school game, except involving a bunch of severely malnourished tall uncoordinated stringbeans. Tomic I think is #4 in gold. Bet he wishes I did not say that.

Couldn't find anything on Marc Gasol besides one vid that consisted of him hitting a FT and then being interviewed in the locker room.

Bellinelli seems to have a little "Manu" in him and has alot of flair. As far as Tomic.....dude was pushed around all over the floor and looked horrible.

Long, athletic, and raw. He's very inconsistent and he just doesn't have the mindset to make it in the NBA IMO.

I wouldn't mind pairing Spencer Hawes with a Justin Williams type player in the front court.

Hawes = Interior Moves, Jump Shot & Passing
Williams = Defense, Rebounding, Atheliticism

Our problems recently have been pairing bigs with the same skillset such as Brad Miller & Reef (Offense, NO Defense, NO Rebounding). Kenny Thomas' skills are different, but he's a midget w/o layup skills.

Yeah Kenny has skills, they're just fastball at the rim from layup range skills. No touch whatsoever.

Anyways, my top 11 for the Kings are:

1) Oden, 2) Durant, 3) Horford, 4) BWright, 5) C. Brewer, 6) M. Conley, 7) Joakim Noah, 8) Jeff Green, 9) Julian Wright, 10) Spencer Hawes, 11) Acie Law

i like thad young, yi jianlian, jason smith, rudy fernandez and marco alot. if we had a second mid 1st rounder, i'd like to pick him up. i also think he has alot of manu in him. he isn't a high riser but he can do alot of things like manu. if you watch some of the vids on him, he looks like he can handle the rock also. possibly a 1/2 combo guard.
