If we could draft Mudiay ( I believe WCS will be off the board), I'd like to see us sign some defensive oriented players on the wing. If we could sign the right SG or big PF/C and/or wing type player.....a full camp under Karl, this team can flirt with .500.

The draft pick and a couple of moves gets us in contention or at least out of the crapper.

Trading Gay doesn't make sense right now. Lets keep accumulating good players, not trade them for rookies.

What if we traded Rudy Gay to acquire a veteran upgrade at PF, while using our #6 pick to add a SF (eg Winslow, Johnson etc)? Or acquired a high value young player for Rudy Gay, and used the cap space we save to sign a veteran that improves the balance of the line up?

In either scenario it could be argued trading Gay to create a better rounded line up to support Cousins could be the way forwards. But I'm like you, I don't see us trading him at this time.

That's a perfectly reasonable idea, and I agree with you that it could be in our best interest long-term to draft a SF and trade Rudy Gay, who should have decent value to teams needing a scorer after his performance this season and reduced salary. It works on paper. In terms of building chemistry and trust though, Rudy should be all but untouchable at this time. And I'm okay with that. We need continuity right now, possibly even more than we need high-level talent.
