Well, I had to stay up late to watch the repeat of the WSOP, since I was bowling during the original broadcast. This was a great tournament, with many many fabulous poker players. I enjoyed it very much.

Since some of you may not have had the opportunity to see it yet, I will not spoil it, however, I will say that my favorite did not win. :(

If anyone enjoys playing poker, some of us have had fun playing online at PokerStars. We play holdem at the "play money" tables.

AceKingSuited played in a mini-tournament today with 18 players and won.

Congrats to AKS!!!!!!

BTW - he won $36 (real money). :D

Congrats!!!

I played for a while yesterday and felt very pleased with myself when I went from 550 to 9,500... Of course, it wasn't real money.

:D

And I was pleased with myself for going over $2000 in a few hours of play. Sounds like it's time to go pro, VF! ;)

What do you guys think of Partypoker as opposed to Pokerstars. I don't know how the players over there compare, but I like their interface better.

I'm old and resistent to change. ;)

I started with Pokerstars, so unless I quit having fun there I probably won't try another site.

The only exception I would consider moving for is if there was a way to make a table closed to anyone except our own invited guests. That way, those of us from here wanting to play wouldn't have to worry about finding enough room for all of us at the same time.

I finally played at PokerStars (as uolj) - went all in, got called, and won to get up to $2600. Of course, later I was at a different table where several players would bet 1000 nearly every hand, and all my money went bye-bye. Oh well.

Maybe I'll try PartyPoker, too, but I agree with VF21, I'd love to find a private table option.

The only thing I dislike about playing online is the "all-in" nuts. It seems like people burn their chips knowing they can just get more and it ruins the flow of the game.

BTW-I'm GM4KINGZ if anyway sees me online. Unless I'm losing, than I'm someone else!

I learned to look for rooms with lower average pots, which tends to mean that people are playing reasonable poker. Too many play money tables are filled with people who will call any and every raise through the river, even if they have nothing in their hand. Everybody just hangs on to the bitter end and hope they somehow win the pot. If you know you have the best hand, you can take them to the cleaners, but there's very little actual poker to be played in those situations.

Thanks 6th. Appreciate the love. It was a profound learning experience in my development as a player.

NME has a really good point there, about the pot average stat. One of the most important things to winning is knowing how to select the right table.

:D Think nothing of it, good buddy.

I played a bit today, but found myself at a table where everyone just jacks the bets up whether they have anything or not. I hightailed it outa there.

that's where the raise and hand selection come into play. if you make it painful for them to call with crap, and punish their poor play, you'll find them less likely to call you with junk hands.

another thing, if you're playing on the 10/20 no limit tables, it's pretty hard to get away from horrible players. it's not uncommon to get kings or aces cracked by a reckless player who pushes all in with a dreadfully inferior hand and gets lucky. if you get a chance, you should try and learn no-limit on the 200/400 NL tables. they play a lot more responsibly. just check the pot stats like NME said, and try and find a full or near-full table, small pot average, and just play really solid hands.

good luck :)

Thanks for the tips, AKS. I'll have to work up the nerve to check it out. ;)

Wow. Talk about foul-mouthed trolls. It's unbelievable what some people will say... Luckily, sending an email to support seems to do the trick rather quickly. The bozo infecting our table this evening has had his chat privileges revoked.

Note to self: Just because you flop an unbelieveable 4 of a kind, don't forget that someone else can also get 4 of a kind (higher) - and kill you on the river...

Holy moly. Congrats to Annie Duke for winning the $2 million dollar WSOP Tournament of Champions. She was an unlikely winner, but did a great job to hold the chip lead and slam the door on Phil Helmuth.

Of course, Phil took the loss in typical miserable fashion kicking things and cursing and muttering to himself. Classic Phil. :)

What a huge victory for Annie. She won her first bracelet this year, and now adds this to her list of accomplishments in the 04 WSOP.

I was VERY glad to see Annie win and seeing Phil lose was just icing on the cake. He is about the most obnoxious person I have ever seen play - and if that's "gamesmanship" or what it takes to win all those titles, then I'm glad to be an amateur.

;)

I have to formally announce my addiction to No Limit Texas Hold Em.

I think the only salvation for me to break the vicious online cycle might be to confront my demons. Yes, I think I shall organize all-night poker games with all my furry minions!!

Does there need to be a Online Poker Addicts Annonymous for some of you?;)
What a great idea!!

And we could meet two or three times a week, talk about our obsession and maybe play a few hands, just to get it out of our system!

I've also developed a semi-obsession for Texas Hold'em Poker.

I'm still a newbie at the game though...just started playing with my siblings since this Summer. Hehe. We play it almost every night when we have free time.

Some of my favorite Poker players: Gus Hansen, Doyle Brunson, Howard Lederer, and Phil Ivey.

AceKingSuited, that's a very nice hand you got there in your avatar. Good luck with the Community Cards!

Twix, please consider joining us at PokerStars.com. Most of us play the play money tables. Newbies fit right in there. I did.

When do you guys/gals play? I've been playing on PokerStars for the last couple of weeks, but with strangers. It would be nice to see some familiar faces. :D

doone, click on the "request" button at the top and scroll down to "find a player" and type in one of our usernames and it will show you what room we are in.

I am DianaRigg. If you check thru this thread, you will find usernames for others that play occasionally. What is your username?
