World Cup agony

The Olympics are still two years away. Who knows what could happen?

Peja has played a LOT of basketball in his life and he's represented his country well. I personally think he's more than earned the right to step down and let the younger players pick up the torch in international competition.

Serbia, Montenegro and any country has to earn the olymics. An european championship will take place next year in Spain (I think). According to the results, it will possible to get the right to play in the olympics. So, step by step.

Not one single player after than that can offer anything. Just a bunch of wanna bes that were thrown together.

I strongly disagree. Tripkovic is a talent like only few have. The only problem is that he has NO PLAYS set for him. Just like all the other players besides Darko and Rakocevic. Actually, the plays were not set for them either, so they are the only ones to dare to play some 1 on 1.

Also, with regards to who should play and who shouldn't, I'm not sure exactly what the purpose of this competition was since the staff kept saying that we are bringing younger players, but our starting lineup had all vets besides Milicic. If that was the case, I don't understand why they didn't invite Milojevic. Also, I'm not so sure that bringing in the NBA "stars" would have helped us at all. We have a lot of people who can waste the basketball, but we don't have any decent role players. Sad.

it seemed to me, after watching today's game against spain, that the whole purpose was to build darko's confidence and let him have some important experience. he played for almost 35 minutes, even when the game was quite out of reach. that mile ilic (i might be spelling wrong) guy is actually quite promising as a decent center, it seems. tripkovic did not do anything. he tried to play one on one in a few occasions but was not very successful.

after a few years of consecutive disappointment, i can say that the worst thing that happened to yugo-ball is nba, or rather, the nba players who get full of themselves. we had the same problem in the turkish nt; look where we got without hedo and memo. once the superiority of the "team concept", especially that of "nt", is reestablished, the serbian basketball will be back on track, i am sure. i am hoping that this tournament made our turkish star players see that it is all about team, not individual stats or being about the leader on a winning team.

Yes, it was all about Milicic, so thats pretty much exactly the opposite of what you're saying is happening with Turkey ... unfortunately. Great finish there against Slovenia for you guys!
Tripkovic is the best guard that we currently have, in 2 years you will see what I am talking about. He made some silly mistakes in this game, but what can you expect when he does not get any consistent playing time and then the coach throws him in the most important game. I'm not sure what a purpose of 11 man rotation was either (Askrabic was injured, otherwise it would be 12).

I am well aware of Tripkovic's talent but he is not up to that level yet. Yes I expect him to be a good international for us down the track but thats at least another 2-3 years away.

Rakocevic, I have never rated as one of the key players. IMHO, he is a 3rd string PG on National Team. He doesn't understand the concept of team player but unfortunately at the moment he is the best we have at that position. Although, I must admit that Popovic has impressed me with his tenatious play but we still lack that classic play maker that we had in Djordjevic.

Back to Tripkovic, he is inexperienced and still a fair way off. What baffled me is that we had no real wings on this team. Tripkovic was our major shooter and he is just not up to it at this stage.

I still think that if we can get our best team on the court of European championship, we are a chance of winning. Provided that we are coached right, and egos are left at home.

tripkovic is overated. Milojevic declined but I don't understand why he would be needed. He is 30 and he sucks

That's right, Milojevic did decline.
And for the other two comments, take your red and white glasses off for a second - your life will be better :)
Milojevic is an excellent player. Also, we'll talk about Tripkovic in a year or two.

To bad they lost to Spain last night - but in all honesty they WERE the better team.

I'm definately pumped for the Olympics in 2 years though!

Imagine this line-up made up of mostly NBA players:

PG:Jaric, Rakocevic
SG:Pavlovic, Rakocevic
SF:Stojakovic, Radmonovic
PF:Krstic,Cabarkapa
C: Milicic,Cabarkapa

I love what I have seen from Pavlovic in the NBA in the short stints that he has gotten in Cleveland.

We would have a very solid 8 man deep rotation. We could definatelyy find other guys to get some playing time on their to (Popovic, Raicevic, Tripkovic, etc...)

My biggest concern with this team would be the attitutude towards the coaches and other players. If they can bond well, and play together that team could definately get places.

I am not having any glasses on man. I didn't suggest any players from red star. Tripkovic will end up just like Avdalovic, Milojevic, Ostojic itd. When those people got into NT - the decline started

Cabarkapa already said that he is going to play for Montenegro and I am pretty sure Pavlovic will do the same, cuz' they are both from there.

I would add Vujanic to your list and eventually Nemanja Aleksandrov who is the best young player on the world, according to the coaches and scouts opinion.

Yeah, I know that about Pavlovic and Cabarkapa... they probably will play over there, but maybe if they realize how good Serbia could be with them they might come.

About Aleksandrov... my cousin who is a huge basketball fan and Pavlov's age actually went to school with him over in Belgrade. He is friends with him too. He told me about this kid a long time ago when he was only like 15 or something. He is pretty athletic and a fanatastic scorer. He played pretty much every position for his club in Europe. Pavlov told my cousin that he might decide to stay and play in Europe for a few years because he definately doesn't want to end up like Milicic.

I didn't put him on the roster for the olympics because he is to skinny and might not fit well with international play. On the other hand, sure why not and if he bulks up, he could be a serious competitor.

No, those people came on the team and left the team (or had minor roles). Rakocevic is the common factor, unforunately.
As for Tripkovic, it is useless to argue with you if you think that Milojevic is a bad player - and you will see just how good he is. I have followed his career for a couple of years now. I suggest you reserve your judgement for when you see him play a little more.

Milojevic is too short to play PF and too slow to play SF. He would get eat alive on defense. Decent scorer though.

I have seen Milojevic shoot an hairball from the freethrow line. That is all I need to know about a BB player.

That is not fair. I am going to see him playing live for the next season. I hope, I will find the serbian Barkley, not the player you describe:confused:

He could be solid on a mediocre level. The team in which he is the best player - will never really matter

Don't worry, baiarri. You will be more than satisfied with your new player. His strength, physical play and competitiveness more than makes up for his height disadvantage. He was by far the best player in Serbian league, and also MVP of the Adriatic league. His Euroleague numbers were also very solid and he won several weekly MVPs there too.

You have to consider that piksi's viewpoint comes through the prism of 5 years of total destruction that he had to witness, as Milojevic's Partizan dominated Serbian league. This hatred for Partizan and their players has reached incredible levels, as it was just reported today that one of Partizan's most promising young players Uros Tripkovic (yes, the one that piksi also calls overrated) played the world championship with his arm broken! The doctors saw the x-rays, the coach knew about it (Sakota, Red Star's idiot coach) and they did not report this to anyone!

Aleksandrov will definetely stay in europe cuz' few months ago he sign contract with Red Star Belgrade(Peja's former team) for 3 years. After that he'll probably go to NBA.
Olympics are 2 years away from now and I think he will be in national team roster,at least for getting some international exprience.
