Interesting article about the Wizards discussing their moves this summer
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/mar/20/wizards-owner-pollin-ready-to-pay-penalty-to-win/
Few key points:
*Owner has NEVER gone over the Luxury tax before. They lost needed depth and let Roger Mason go to the Spurs for 3M/ year last summer because they didn't want to go over even by a little
*Owner said he doesn't want to go over the tax line but will not rule it out (funny only the last part is the story headline)
*They feel like injuries are what's kept them from competing this year
*Etan Thomas and Mike James are prime targets to move
*Jamison and Butler have publicly requested veterans this summer to help them contend when they get healthy
A lot of indications here that there may be an opportunity to get their pick. They need 6-8M in cap space to get under the tax line they want to avoid, which we just happen to be able to absorb. They have a veteran core locked up for the next several years which they want to compete now with. They are not in rebuilding mode.
We'll take Mike James, Etan Thomas, and that high pick for Nocioni and our two later picks.
