Will the new guys play in Portland? (split)

Don't think they are playing tomorrow, but they will play the next game. I think the physicals haven't been completed yet or something.

In the Hawks n Lakers game preview it says the Hawks expect Bibby to be on the floor. So if he is ablet to play then shouldnt our new guys be able to play as well? I would imagine so if since the physicals have to be passed for the deal to be done so there shouldnt be any hang up there if Bibby can play. Hope to see them in uniform tomorrow night....as bitter sweet as it may be.....

I just saw that the new guys practiced here today and also read that Bibby passed his physical and did practice with ATL down in LA as well.

Note: I split this from the Shelden Williams thread as it was really starting to wander off-topic.

From todays SacBee:

It just wasn't the No. 10.
This was Tyronn Lue sporting the number, one of four relatively nondescript players acquired in Saturday's trade that sent Mike Bibby to Atlanta and brought his memorable Kings tenure to an end.

In what was the first team practice since the move was made, there was an air of awkwardness in the building that even Lue couldn't ignore.
"I've worn that number since I was in junior high school, so I hope no one minds," Lue said sheepishly. "I'm not trying to take anyone's place or anything."

Well they are practicing, does anyone else think Tyronn wearing Bibby's number just several days after he is shipped out is in bad taste?

Sort of a slap in the face for the Kings Fans who really didnt want him to go.
Heck Im a little upset about it and I was all for the trade.

Way to go Lue, way to endear yourself to your new fanbase.

I was kind of shocked he would have the nads to do something like that. So what if he's worn that # before. He's no Mike Bibby and I think its not right. Also, Theus says he's not concerned about playing any of the new guys in Portland.

It doesn't really bother me..I like Bibby a lot and he will always be THE number 10, however, like Lue said he has been wearing that number since High School and you know how athletes are with their numbers. Though, he will likely be traded soon so it wont make much of a difference.

It is up to the team to set aside a number if they don't want it used. Obviously they have no problem with it.

An advisable move? No, not this quickly after a popular player just left. Does it bother me? Not really. Players are very superstitious about wearing their #s if at all possible.

He's not trying to replace Mike. Just like Kevin Martin isn't trying to be the next Jordan....

Lue being no Mike Bibby is a good and bad thing. For instance, Lue being no Mike Bibby might mean that he's more of a true PG when it comes to passing, and he might play defense. ;)

I think the wearing of #10 might not be advisable though. It might make his Arco welcome not quite as warm.

Bibby was one of my favorites and his jersey is the first I ever bought. He will be "the" number 10 for the Kings to me, unless someone comes along and makes it his own, by his play.

Strangely enough, it doesn't bother me that Lue will wear number 10. I understand player attachment to "their" number. He and I both know he isn't replacing Bibby. That's all that matters.

Eh, nobody made a fuss when Bibby took Tiny's number... why should anyone make a fuss about Lue taking "Bibby's" number?

I don't care if he wears #10 because Bibby will always be #10 for the Kings no matter who wears his number. But the rest of the team seems to feel at least awkward about it according to this quote. But its nothing to look for.

It's not a problem to me. It'll seem a little odd at first though.

Now if Lue gets Team Dime tattooed on his back and starts clipping his finger nails on the bench I might raise my eyebrows.

When Corliss came back a couple of seasons ago, I dusted off my old Corliss Williamson jersey to wear to his first game.

Lo and behold, it had the #4 on it! A little research reminded me that he gave that number up for some new guy named Chris who was coming on board.

do you guys really want them to play? personally i hope lue, johnson and wright never see the court... if where talking about williams here then yes, i hope he plays and gets alot of playing time.. but like i said i dont want any of the other players to step on the court.. it would be a complete waist of time.. we arent going to make the playoffs and playing vets at this point just means it will take even more time for the younger players to develope.. besides miller and artest(if hes not gone) ... they've earned it.

I agree in principle, but it's not as if we have any young PGs starving for minutes, so I don't think it matters much. Udrih will get plenty of PT, and he's the only PG we have who is under 32 years old.

It's just a number.
In the Sacramento era we haven't had many "numbers" that took us anywhere. Bibby and #10 are up in the top few Sacramento era numbers along with #4. Numbers like his means more to those of us who gagged our way thru the 90's then to see 99-00 take Sacramento to the top echelon of the NBA then Bibbs arrives and the Kings get to the top (almost). #10 to me will always be the Bibbinator and the clutch shots and take charge he showed in the good times.

The only "sacred" numbers in Sacramento-era Kings history are 2, 4 and 21. AFAIC, nobody else was important enough for it to be a big deal.
