In direct corelation with Warhawks poll on which Artest trade people prefer. I want to know your opinions of in you think any of these will happen meaning do you think Artest will be traded at all?

I personally think he will be traded. I don't know for who and who will be with him, but I think he will be traded this offseason.

Without question. Now, at this point I wouldn't be surprised if it was a deal we all aren't particularly happy about. But he's got to go.

I think the only question is exactly when does the trade happen. Does it occur before 08-09 season opens or sometime between then and Feb. 09 trade deadline. Obviously, if it does not happen under one of those two possibilities it won't happen and Artest just plays out his option to become an unrestricted free agent after season ends.

Just a matter of when. I think it would be best to have it done before the season starts, and I'm reaching a point where I don't care who for. Good thing Petrie's in charge.

Yeah, I don't think you can wait until the trade deadline. Since he'll be a free agent, the team trading for him will give the best value for an entire season. Not to mention it's best to get rid of the distraction sooner rather than later.

I need an "I don't know" choice. My crystal ball is broken. :D

Edit: Please make that an "I don't know, but I sure hope so" choice.

LOL How about another poll asking if I should include an I don't know option on this poll. And on that poll I will also include an idon't know option. :D

I picked no because there is the potential that Geoff and Co. decide to just let Artest ride it out if they can get no more in a trade than an expiring of equal value. I could see a trade going down if the Kings got:

1. Rid of K9's contract too for a large expiring (Benefit is K9 off the books early)

2. A reasonably good player who is not expiring (This seems more and more doubtful as Artest's behavior starts to become an issue)

3. Some draft picks + equal expiring salary (it would need to be a solid pick)

Somehow, it just doesn't seem like any of these things will go down...

At this point I don't see any other option. Petrie "could" wait until the trade deadline or just let his contract expire and get nothing for him (which he has done before) but I highly doubt either of those happen.

I'm thinking Petrie will wait until mid-August and try to get the best deal, before pulling the trigger. There's no need to have the distraction of Artest when we're in the middle of building around a very young nucleus.

I also think eventually, Petrie is going to back off on his "Take K9 or no deal" demands.

I think the take K9 rule still applies, but still, only if the Kings are trading for an expiring only.

I don't know why people keep assuming there's a "take K9 rule." In all honesty, Kenny Thomas is NOT the problem. Ron Artest was, is and will be the problem. He's opened his mouth one too many times, he's embarrassed the Maloof family one too many times, and he's a square peg in a round hole as far as future development of our younger players goes.

He's not the player you build a franchise around and Theus and the team will be better off without him, partially because he's good enough to keep you hoping he'll be the player he thinks he can be. It's false hope - and we really need to move on.

I agree with the sentiment, but I can just see Geoff holding out to the trade deadline and not finding a deal he likes and just having the Kings suck it up for the rest of the year with Artest. I really hope Artest gets traded, the sooner the better, but I can see this torture lasting a while.

I said no, assuming the OP meant this off season. But I think that he will be traded next Allstar Break. I have posted my opinion in other places, but I am really going out on a limb here and saying that GP will not hold a firesale and no other GM will offer equal value until the contenders are desperate for that extra push come all star weekend.

That didn't work last year, and I doubt it will work this year either. Why would a contending team, if it thinks Ron is the final piece, prefer three months of Ron to a full season? Holding on isn't worth the distraction at this point, especially with the risk we get shut out like last year. Ron needs to go soon.

I more speaking of a contending team that is not getting what it expected out of its players or had injuries. And it is much different than last year because of the fact that he is a straight up expiring at the end of the season, not a player with an opt out. The gamble would be minimal for a team at that point that really needs the extra push. Ron is well enough respected in the league where in that situation, a GM can be pretty sure that Ron/Bill would play his heart out for a title and give a much needed push. And then he would be gone the following season anyhow.

I agree. I think if he's not traded by preseason we end up holding the Artest bag for the entire season. At this point, I'm not holding my breath on a trade...

There's still a lot of time before the beginning of the season. You've got to play your cards. There may be deals on the table and its just a matter of who blinks first. From a fans point of view, its frustrating. But I do understand the process.

Because...for a contending team its really about the playoffs. Not the regular season where they're going to win enough to make the postseason with or without Ron.

If a contender thinks Ron will give them an edge vs other playoff teams then of course they're going to roll the dice for a rental, even if it might just be for 3 months. A full season or just three months doesnt really make a difference if a GM thinks Ron could get them the big prize.
