Why no talk of Skinner at PF?

The proof is in the pudding. Thomas and Skinner are too small to be our main frontline against Seattle. I'd love to see Skinner get more minutes at PF than center on Tuesday. If Rashard is playing SF, then Skinner can easily defend Evans or Fortson. Seems like a no brainer to me.

Darius does seem to be the odd man out. He's basically a poor man's Miller and if we've got the real Miller, he's really going to be squeezed out of the rotation.

His flagrant on A. Daniels was pretty interesting. IT was defintiely a flagrant.

We've talked about a possible fuiture Miller/Skinner pairing on this board before, and with precisely the idea of getting some size in there and having a shotblocker to coverfor Brad's inability to do so. But until Brad is ready for big minutes, don't think you can really pair Tag and Skinner in there for very long just becuase of the drastic offensive falloff. And there is always the question of just what KT's status is. I would replace Skinner with Tag, because Skinner is not really our starter -- he's just the guy doing his best to fill in until the starter is back, and Tag can do that job better than him against this team. But KT is pretty close to just simply being our starting PF now, and while he may have some major deficiencies against a team like Seattle, its pretty rare to actually bench your starter unless he's a platoon type guy (and maybe he will be once Brad is back -- just hard to tell with injuries).

PFs are not traditionally all great scorers, although there are many great ones in the league today. Reggie Evans certainly isn't a scorer in this series. He's just there to beat the crap out of you. Be nice to have somebody who could match him physically.

I said this in another thread but I'll repeat it here.

Until Brad is 100% in game shape, we should start Tag with KT, then bring Brad off the bench with Skinner, to keep a good mix of defense and offense.

Ronnie Turiaf?

I already suggested that as a possibility in a thread last week. ;)

Who knows -- I freely admit to being much better at the NBA and its players than college, which I rarely watch anymore. Love Turiaf's attitude and approach though. We could really use a teamwide testosterone boost, and he's the sort of energetic and relentless guy I would love to see in a Kings uni.

If you had Skinner at PF, you'd need an offensive Center. So that would be Brad. You can't do it with him and Tag. The offense needs someone who can hit that elbow shot.

Fair enough. I suppose you want Brad or Kenny Thomas on the floor at all times unless we're really up or really down.

Yup... it forces us to play "outside-in" offense. (shot, then hope for a rebound) rather than a "inside-out" offense

no offense, but your post is nuts. we need brad in the starting line-up asap. what if he's never at 100% for the rest of the playoffs?? no time to waste. the starting front court should be brad miller and greg. kenny and skinner should come off the bench.

I think it's possible to bring in Skinner at PF now only because we have Miller at Center. That's a nice big defensive/rebounding lineup when Tag is on the bench, and we'll still have a scoring center who can draw one of their bigs out of the paint. I'd like to see Coach try that for a stretch and see how it works.

Skinner wouldn't be a great power forward because his jump shot sucks.

I've seen this a few times now, and I just have to keep shaking my head -- at one point did PF become a jumpshooting position? WE like that, but there are a LOT of PFs around the league who leave the jumpshooting to the little weak guys while they go wading inside. Reggie Evans, the very man we are trying unsuccessfully to contain, is a prime example.

Brick's right on. If our center (Miller) has a nice J, then we don't need the power forward to have one too.
