Ha... he gets so much heat on this board for his radio show... well

FORGET THE RADIO SHOW....

I have friends that have been, and are currently in the entertainment business... Its all about shock... its about NUMBERS! and its proven that if you are real.... vs controversial you will be fired in no time... very few radio hosts survive with out resorting to some kind of shock on a relatively frequent basis. Anyway drop the radio show, for a second...

Grant tonight did something i've taken for granted all these years... on the "And 1" by Cousins... where he was fouled on the shot and then tipped in his miss... a basket that NEVER should have been allowed...

Grant called it as it was... BS! he is usually fair and unbiased.

this is the Grants best arena... he doesnt have to resort to shock to be a TV announcer... he can just call it as it actually is and its not on him if people tune in or not....

i dont know if you all have seen or heard the clippers announcers? they would have had no problem saying that basket was a great call... thats crazy... so ridiculous....but they do it all the time... but we are blessed... I love Grant being the voice... Jerry on the other hand... well having 2 good announcers is rare... ha

I agree. I think Grant is great. There's always a little hometown favoritism when it comes to announcers, but at least Grant and Jerry call it like it is and don't pretend like the Kings have no faults. Portland's announcers are the anti Grant and Jerry.

Other announcers admit to BS for their own team. Only the real bottom of the barrel don't. Grant's call of a game is real predictable, and he can't handle being paired with anyone that challenges him. That's why he sits next to doofs like Jerry and Lamb(formally). This results in a rather annoying, predictable announcing.

If you want to talk unbiased, look at G-man. I'm amazed at how little he repeats the company line and how honest he'll be when the team stinks. G-man is like Charlie Sheen minus the cocaine, he just don't give a ****.

IIRC, the Heat announcers are pretty good. Rather impartial and give decent analysis.

The Lakers announcers are the absolute worst. They probably stick out in my mind because its the Lakers, but EVERY CALL that doesn't go there way, they start getting on the refs and complaining about how the Lakers and Kobe never get a fair shake. Really at least a third of the time they spend griping about calls, and the remainder of the time they talk about how the rest of the league other than the Lakers is terrible.

For all the talk of his importance, Ralph Lawler's main purpose these days would appear to shouting "Bingo" and coming up with new ways to praise Blake Griffin. I absolutely can't stand him.

Ugh. No, the Heat team is bad. The Play by Play guy is fine, but his partner does absolutely nothing but repeat the play by play call. He's the author of such brilliant lines as "Wade really layed the ball up there." and "What Lebron did there was dunk the ball."

Grant cracks me up all the time. I don't care for him personally but I love how he mentions the name "Jerry" about 20-30 times in a game.

Trust me, there are PLENTY of times that Grant acts like a homer or calls "BS" on things that don't go the Kings way that he is flat out wrong about. I personally can't stand the guy. He just comes across as a jerk. Does anybody here remember way back before he was with the Kings and he was on Channel 31 and he had that incredibly goofy laugh?

I've listened to all the announcers in the league, and Grant and Jerry are in the top ten. I'd have them in the top five. Having had more than a few conversations with Jerry, he's far from being a doof. Frankly, your condescension is uncalled for. You don't like them, fine. Everyone has different tastes. There's no need to call them names.

Agreed on all counts.

The worst all time is that guy in Houston... I always forget his name, but he was there about 10-12 years ago... TERRIBLE!

Have you every heard Walt Frasier of the Knicks. He ranks right up there with the worst of all time.

I don’t listen to the Grant Napear Show on KHTK so I can only judge him and Jerry by their performances as Kings announcers. I completely agree with Warhawk and Bajaden that Grant and Jerry are one of the best PBP duos in the league. They are both very knowledgeable about the game and play their respective roles well together. Unlike many of the other announcers in the league they are always quick to recognize and compliment good plays by both teams. I have had to turn off the sound when listening to other announcers because of their inability, even for a second, to recognize the other team’s good play. It’s never a great play or shot by the other team, it’s always “our defense broke down or our guys are playing hurt” or some other excuse. As with any good home announcers Grant and Jerry praise our players for a job well done and try to make it as exciting as possible for the fans. But they also are not afraid to point out our mistakes and weaknesses. Although very different they both have a sense of humor and we sure have needed it the last few years. Whenever I get forced into listening to many of the opposing team’s announcers on League Pass it makes me appreciate Grant and Jerry all the more.

IMO, the Boston announcers are the worst. All they do is whine, whine, whine, and whine some more. They've never seen a foul called on a celtic that they agree with.

No name calling. That's the role they play, the doof. Jerry knows it and likes the pay. When I call Graswich's old columns the product of a troll, I am not name calling. Graswich knows what he's doing, he knows the role he is playing.

Not a big fan of Grant. He thinks he knows more than he does, he's condescending, and he has an annoying voice. He's not the worst, but I wouldn't have him near the top of a list of announcers. He's probably middle of the pack.

Jerry, on the other hand, is much more likable. He says some goofy things sometimes, but he's a good natured guy and he knows alot more about the game of basketball than Grant, despite all the posturing by the latter. Jerry is much better at recognising whether calls are correct or not, and he's not biased one way or the other. Just calls it as it is.

I think Jerry is much more condesending. When he says stuff like people dont know what they are looking at or they dont know basketball. Well Jerry if you know so much why did you coach career suck and why are the Kings 15-47 Mr. Director of Player Personel. Oh they Kings sucked until Petrie took over your GM job.

This is so true. I don't even know how the Celtic fans listen to them. Your would think that a large market team like Boston could do way better.

Grant is fantastick and Jerry plays a great second fiddle to him. Grant is a New Yorker through and through. I lived there for a number of years and I can tell you they are an acquired taste. I love New Yorkers and their attitude. I find that Grant says what he means, believes what he says, and he takes a stand. As a play by play man he is professional and knows the game. I have met him in several different settings and I have found him to be interesting, friendly, and engaging and it would be sad to lose not only the Kings, but Grant Napear as well.

One thing Grant does poorly is having an actual conversation with callers and athletes. When he talks with famous athletes, he's horrible at interviewing them. When he asks question and gets an answer, he doesn't really build on the response. . And for callers, I'd say 1 out of every 5 calls turns into a conversation after the caller voices their opinion(but most callers are pretty dull and repetitive anyway so maybe it's easy to get bored)

However, the one thing he does well about as much as anyone is voice his opinion. Listen to the segment Grant's Rant at 5pm on 1140, it's damn entertaining.

The Boston announcers are biased but they are local legends (well at least portions of the announce crew) and they can speak coherently, which is more than can be said for some of the PBP guys. They also have one or two professionals who just stick to the game, but they have 2 or 3 crews that they mix up, and I think they hired Walton for 5 games this year too. Tommy Heinsohn is the one that annoys everyone but IF you are a Celts fan he's kind of funny. It's also clearly a schtick.

Someone said Portland was bad, I actually think they are quite good too. As is Grant.

The guys that bug me are the ones that can barely speak english. I don't mind the guys that play a character (or caricature), but if you sound like mush mouth why are you on TV?

Mike Gorman is fantastic.

Agreed - its only when you get Cousy and Heinsohn together that it gets out of hand, but if you're a Boston fan which is who that pairing is intended for, it isn't so bad. Particularly when you consider that Boston fans have to deal with a lot of national guys across all sports that are NY fans putting down Boston teams constantly.
