hrdboild's comment in the game thread got me thinking.

If Griffin weren't in the mix...

..and now that Cousins got his game on, with a whole half season still to play, who do you think ROY would have been by the end of the year?

I just checked the numbers and they're pretty damn impressive for Big Cuz the last month, and especially the last five games, and especially when you factor in his limited minutes. January the dude was just about 17 and 8 at 28 mins a game. That's pretty damn impressive. Gets a lot of steals for a big man, too.

As much as we like to harp on DMC and Reke's turnover woes, Wall often winds up getting more turn overs in a game than both of them combined

3.7 t/o isnt that bad when hes dishing out 9 assists a game

I think DMC is going to have a better rookie year, and a better career.

wall will need to polish his other skills such as jumpshot, a solid D, and minimize those turnovers, he will need to have players around him to make shot for him to utilize his passing skills and rack up those assists as a point guard, still he can be a great player allstar potential

Cousins on the other hand will ALWAYS demand a double team if he continues to learn to dominate, his skills are already evident for a 20 year old and a rookie bigman, not being biased for our rookie but in the long run cousins will be the one drawing in more double teams and cause more freethrow shots and foul calls going our way.

both will be good players but I'd give Cousins the edge right now cause I am impressed with how he has improved, my friend who;'s a die hard jersey fan told me.. "dude cousins is beasting lately, and im impressed how he plays now even under foul trouble.. wish the nets got him though"

well arent we all thankful he fell to us :D

Admittedly I'd say I was jumping the gun just a bit when I said that because there's still a lot of season left. What makes me think DMC would win though is that he's steadily gotten better throughout the season and he's putting in his best work right now, late in the season, against some very good competition. He's already getting to the point where 20 and 10 a night is expected which is remarkable considering how he started out the season. Wall also missed some time due to injury and his assist totals, and overall impact as a playmaker, is partially mitigated by his turnovers.

No one else in this rookie class has the big-game resume that those two have so far. It's a two man race (for #2 that is :) ) but I'd give Cousins the edge right now.

To be tempted with the thought that we drafted the best player in the draft two years in a row is... how can I say.... pretty much an inconceivable homer dream that none of us dared speak two and a half years ago. This reality is now on the horizon.

Part of my purpose for posting this thread is that I want to try to give people a positive reality check. Sometimes that's hard for Kings fans. Right now that poll is 18 to 3 Big Cuz. Granted it's all Kings fans voting. So here's a follow up question:

If 2 and a half years ago, during the Mussleman or Theus/Knatt year, someone told you that the Kings would be getting the two most talented players out of each of the next two draft classes... and that these players would be coming in at the two most difficult to fill positions, how hard would have sprayed beer into the space in front of you? Me? Hard.

I don't care who wins MVP. Last year it was very important to us fans because that's all we had to root for. This year is different.

We have two younsters with holes in their games that are STILL playing at a high level, at least since 2011 started. Cuz had a great game statistically last game and STILL made many mistakes. The hand check swat was silly, a few rebounds got away from him, a bad pass ot two. I'm sure he wasn't happy with his game. If Wall is better, so be it. In the long run, we got the right guy.

BTW, does anyone have an idea of how he is controlling himself? To see the number of minutes he is playing as compared to the beginning of the year is just extraordinary. He sure isn't behaving the way he did in college and in the beginning of his NBA career. The turn about is just a tad short of miraculous. He's a monster and will improve. Wow!

I don't care how Wall is playing because we got the best guy. That's all I care about. If Cuz keeps playing the way he has recently, I really can't imagine Wall winning.
