Who should we get with the MLE?

What about Andris Biedrins. If Davis opts out I'm sure, despite all the rumors of Davis being unhappy, the Warriors are going to do all they can to keep him. Which would leave almost no room for Golden State to match a MLE offer on Andris Biedrins.

DeSagana Diop

Rebounds, blocks shots, plays defense, finishes well around the hoop.

Would eat up backup minutes behind Hawes which would officially give us sufficient pretext to trade Miller. Could even see minutes at PF next to Hawes.

As for PG, I like a trade with Toronto for Ford. If that doesn't fly, then we could pick up Earl Boykins for no more than $500k. Boykins would probably get as many assists as Beno would but would cost something like 10X less. Plus I think we should grab a PG project in the 2nd round of the draft. If we lose enough games next year, maybe we will be in the position to grab Jennings, Rubio or some other stud PG.

ewww no not Diop.. Worst center with "raw potential tag" ever..

With the MLE I would rather go for a skilled player. Someone had mentioned above that nobody would want to come to the Kings? If I remember correctly Divac came to the Kings.. We turned around win% from a 30(something)% to a 50(something)% win team in one year. No playoffs to 7th seed. Had the season been longer we could have moved up more being that we were improving throughout the year.

GSW have the Bird rights for Biedrins. "This exception allows teams to exceed the salary cap to re-sign their own free agents, up to the player's maximum salary." So they can offer him more than the MLE if they want to do so.

Is Biedrens just coming off of his rookie contract? If so, he may be a restricted free agent and GS can make a qualifying offer.

From Wednesday's article,
Mullin to world: Warriors will keep Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins, whatever the cost

Mullin decided to address season-ending issues when he saw a bunch of us there, and he got pretty specific on a lot of issues, most especially Ellis and Andris Biedrins’ pending restricted free agency. “We’ll keep them, and other decisions will be made,” Mullin said.

That woke me up. Hello? You’re definitely keeping them, no matter what? No matter that they might both get huge offers–that you’d have to match in order to keep them?
“We’ll keep them.”

Go check out that other thread. We have no one close to the top 10 rebounders in the league. Diop is ranked #14 and by signing him, our FO would be showing the fans that they do recognize our team's shortcomings and are trying to address them. Miller is ranked #22 on that list. And he's the best we got.

I would love a skilled player, in all situations. But sometimes there is a need to size up, get stronger, get down and dirty on the glass and on defense. We need balance. Having 5 scorers is pointless when there is only 1 basketball. We need better rebounding and defense out of our frontcourt and there is no sure-fire player in the draft that addresses those needs that will be available to us.

Diop is young enough to where he could potentially contribute to our next playoff team. He has playoff experience. He is only commanding $2M this year and could probably be had for the MLE or less.

We definitely need someone like him, and I think he shall be a good pick for part of the MLE. I am pretty sure though that NJ shall want him, and he might prefer staying there.

That said, if we are not dropping MLE on Beno (or some other PG), I wish we don't use it all. We do need help up front, but we have a bigger hole at PG, where both players we used this season (Beno and AJ), are FAs. As the first few games of the season showed, we need a PG. Salmons, Cisco and Douby are fine as backups, but someone skilled at that role is required.

Now, if the front office decides and is able ship out all veterans for expirings, prospects and draft picks, I would be fine with picking someone like AJ or another cheap vet for an year, have a big losing year, and then pick someone real good (like Baron, who might become a FA then) through free agency or draft (or both). Don't think the management, players, or even many fans are ready for it though.
