Who should start at PG for rest of preseason?

I know Salmons should be in real game time situations. But Ronnie WOULD benefit ALOT more from starting these next few games. The only reason Hart is still on the team is because of the uncertainty of Price. Now if Price showed something starting at the point. I garuntte Hart would be getting his cut papers.

Based upon what? Cisco has potential but he also has a lot of Jason Williams in him. He's too unpredictable and looks like a runaway train a lot of the time. He needs to learn to notch it down just a bit before I'd give him a starting nod.

Im talking about a shot to play the point in preseason to see if hes ready yet.

I'm still confused, slug. Ready for what?

I've watched every pre-season game. I haven't seen a Francisco Garcia that I would want starting at the 1. In fact, I haven't seen a Francisco Garcia that I would want to start. He's still frenetic; he's still prone to a lot of errors, primarily from trying too hard; and he's still got a lot to learn.

Yes, he has tons of potential and I think, with time, he'll settle down to being a very good player but if there's starting talent there, I'm sure missing it.

Thats a fair point. I just would like to see what would happen given the start at point with some desent minutes. Thats all.

I can understand that. I certainly can't fault his drive or ambition. It might be interesting, after all...

:)

???

I think you're pushing Ronnie Price to marathon races when he's just started to crawl. I think we're all very happy with the improvement we've seen in him and I hope it continues, but I think starting him at this point in time would just be silly.

I think Muss knows what he's doing. Price will still get his minutes; he's worked hard and he's earned them but he's not ready to have the starting nod IMHO.

Similar things were said at a similar time last year about Kevin Martin and don't give me that Price was an undrafted guy. Martin could have very well gone late in the 2nd round or undrafted altogether in that draft. Petrie saw something in him enough to give him a guaranteed contract that year. Also Petrie worked the LINES intensely the year of Price to try and acquire a 2nd round pick to take him to no avail. However, Price went undrafted. That tells you something about Price. I went to a school about 1 mile down the road from UVSC where Price went. The kid can ball and I wish him the best. With that said, he shouldn't be more than a back-up PG in the NBA, ideally in the B-Jax mold.

Once again, similar things were said about Martin at this time last year. The kids(our young guards) just need to play and their potential will be realized. I think this Bibby injury may be similar to the Bonzi injury last year. We'll discover how deep we really are. Price looked good last night, except for the fact the officials were PICKING on him with 3 palming violoations. I want to see Iverson called on every move he makes if they're going to pull that crap.

They called Paul too -- point of emphasis this year.

We certainly didn't see a $25 million dollar point guard on the floor last night.

He's not a PG. He's a SG with ball handling skillz. And Chris Paul is quick. Salmons can beat a bunch of SG's/SF's off the dribble, but not all PG's. Salmons should have been shooting over Paul all day until they put someone else on him.

Don't know that pull-up jumpers are Salmon's forte either. Bottom line is he's okay. Bonzi should hire Salmons agent. Frankly, he looks like a utility infielder who fields adequately and hits .248 with 6 homers and 48 RBI's.

Of course those guys were getting 25 million too, a few years ago.

Weakest part of Salmons game is his shooting, or lack thereof. I was not terribly disappointed because he's barely qualified to be Chris Paul's butler as a PG, but if he's the guy you have to go with, his job is just to stay out of the way and try to use his size a little. His best weapon is his first step, but that's largely neutralized against a quick point.

I agree. Really, he didn't do a half-bad job at the point. There was some rust and he's clearly bothered by small point guards, but he also bothered Paul some with his length. I actually think overall he did a better job on defense than Ronnie Price despite being less athletic. He should be able to post up small points or operate from the elbow, but he only was able to do that once or twice.

Ultimately Paul is sort of a matchup nightmare for Salmons at point, but as a worst case scenario it wasn't actually so bad.

Totally agree. Which is why I thought Muss should have started Ronnie vs. NOK. Against slower PG's...sure I would rather have the experience/skills of Salmons. Salmons has a great first step versus SG's and SF's. But he is 6'6" and he doesn't exactly have the handles like say Lebron James. So IMO, he should post up smaller/faster PG's and drive on the taller/slower ones. And I think he really needs to work on scoring from a certain distance instead of being mediocre from all ranges.

Another thought I had about Ronnie starting PG is due to the fact that it is still preseason. The games don't count, Ronnie is gaining confidence, why not give him a bigger load? Worst case scenario is that you revert to using him how he has been used. Best case scenario...a decent temporary replacement for Bibby and a permanent backup. Alas, preseason is almost over. Oh well...I still like what I've seen out of Ronnie. And I think Salmons needs some more time to be able to take over Bibby's duties.

CP is a nightmare for just about any PG. He is small, quick, strong, etc (quite a good little player, except for his tendency for cheap shots). I think Salmons did pretty good, I wanted him to shoot over CP more. Also it was fun watching Ronnie play CP because they are both athletic and very similar size wise.

Keep starting Salmons at PG with Ronnie and Douby backing him up....resist the urge to put Hart in there. We have enough athletism with Price and Douby. ;)

I will continue to ride the Price bandwagon until he proves to me that he's uncapable. So far all I've seen out of him is promise and the ability to make plays. I'm still a little skeptical about Salmons...not because of his talent...that's pretty apparent. I think he needs some more time to adjust to the team. Starting him in the preseason is fine, but Price has worked with these guys for a year, and has taken his lumps. It should be his job to lose.
