Who is Going to Be Representing the Kings at the Draft Lottery on May 21?

And the answer is.......Coach Smart. Per:

Ryan Lillis‏ @Ryan_Lillis 17m
#NBAKings team representative tells me Coach Keith Smart will represent team at tomorrow's #NBA draft lottery

Maloofs had made arrangement for Smart to rep team at draft lottery. Vivek does not formally own team yet, so team moving 4ward with that

well, we've been Maloofed. Keith Smart will represent at the draft lottery

Somebody needs to call People for the Ethical Treatment of Coaches. This is actually downright cruel to Keith.

"Hey, Keith! How excited are you to see the Kings get a high draft pick that you won't get to coach next year after you get canned in a few weeks?"

I mean, as far as I'm concerned I don't care (though I certainly think we've got some very worthy candidates who will miss out) but this is Maloofery AT IT'S FINEST. They're trying to throw one last middle finger at us, and the only person it is hurting is Keith Smart, who, for all his poor coaching, doesn't deserve that.

:) good for Mr Smart i dont care what he did with our team that was the past and a different era; he is also a nice guy and wont be part of the team next year

Ah, one last middle finger to Kings fans from the Maloofs. Would have been nice to send KJ or Vivek, but given that the Maloofs still technically own the team, it's no surprise that they weren't chosen. And it would probably be bad form to tell Keith he's no longer going to represent us (after all, he is a decent guy as UK kings fan pointed out, regardless of his putrid coaching). Here's to hoping he brings us a parting gift tomorrow night to make up for last year.

eh i dont have a problem with it, hes not really doing anything but sitting their for the camera, its going to be awkward anwsering questions about next year and his future with the team when he is all but fired once the new ownership takes over. one thing is for sure tho with his luck we can kiss the chance of landing the #1 pick good bye lol

Would be funny if we get a top 3 pick, Smart gets all excited, then Vivek tells him he'll never have a chance to coach that pick right after the lottery.

But yes, this is one final middle finger from the Maloofs. So sick of their crap. Maybe Smart will tell everyone at the lottery they're clueless for not instilling an offensive system based off the Globetrotters 50 years ago, then follow it up by telling everyone it doesn't matter who you draft as bench players are equal to starters.

This is an utterly irrelevant designation, and so an utterly irrelevant development with Smart, except of course for the Maloofs to have one last ability to make new ownership look bad when it canes the coach who was sitting there for the lottery drawing.

i was hoping we might be able to see a face associated with the new direction of the franchise, or an oldie like mitch richmond. kinda sucks that it ends up being the bane of kf.com's existence, a holdover from an era in kings history that we'd all just as soon forget. but hey, it's only the draft lottery. very rarely does anyone replay draft lottery footage, except between the lottery and the draft itself. it's not exactly a day-to-be-remembered. in fact, hopefully it's the last time we'll have to see the kings represented there for awhile. the day that new ownership officially takes over the franchise is when this thing really starts. everything else is just a last gasp of the old guard...

Funny, irrelevant, disappointing. 3 great words to describe the last 7 years of this franchise, and Smarts presence at the lottery.

Wow, Vivek is old school AND hardcore. I figured Smart would get fired for his lackluster and confused performance, but caned? Ouch.

Not to worry. If there's anybody capable of providing a good sounding answer to those questions it's Keith Smart.

Um, we are just talking lottery draft order here folks and not the draft itself. I have NO doubt that Bozo the Clown could be making the actual pick and it would still be whomever Vivek's group would want.

I would NOT read anything into Petrie's employment at this point. He is just serving until the new ownership takes over and at the direction of said new ownership as soon as the paperwork is signed.

As to the topic at hand, I would expect Ranadive is the one to represent us tomorrow. KJ has already gone and he's the next most visible face of the new ownership group. I would have thought we'd hear something about this by now though.

It was announced that Keith Smart will represent the Kings.

I'm guessing the Maloofs had to submit a name weeks ago and since the sale isn't finalized, the Randive group can't change things now.

The bigger question is if the team will have a new GM in place and up to speed before the actual draft. I would assume so, but we'll see. They can't officially make a hire (or make any personnel changes) until the sale is finalized which seems like it will be 10-14 days from now. That's a big disadvantage when trying to rebuild a front office.

NOTE: I split the discussion of Petrie's draft pick history into its own thread, since it will undoubtedly last much longer than the original topic of this thread. :)
