Give me a break! This team is playing at a level below what they are capable of. Sure maybe changes need to be made, but this should NOT be a lottery team.

You give ME a break. I thought they would pile up a lot of empty wins in the regular season and then get dismissed, thus allowing fanboys ewverywhere to get ridiculous about good we were for most of the year. But a struggling, mismatched, depressing season was always a worst case scenario possibility. I'm mildly surprised, but not shocked. If we do nothing, this team still breaks 40 probably. Within the scope of possibility before the year began. Thorough mediocrity.

Time for people to reassess the team. A team completely constructed of 2nd and 3rd fiddles from better teams, a first fiddle from terrible teams, undersized tweeners and castoffs? No defense? No rebounders? Poor athleticism? Such a team will always have a solid shot at mediocrity. We could have been more, may still in fact. But we could never be great, and would always be walking a fine line where just everything had to go right to keep us from slipping back into the pack.

I don't have a personal problem w/any of the players or RA. But someone is going to be dealt or replaced. if its RA, what choice do you have for a replacement? it will be a lame duck coach for the rest of the year at best (probably turner). at least a trade of players gives a team a chance to still salvage a season and turn it around.

Turn it around for what? To put up 48 wins and get knocked out in the first round?

We need to let it all go. There can't be a new birth until there was a complete death. Not necessarily that we have to become the Hawks, but we need to abandon the attempt to 'get over the hump' because we aren't anywhere near the hump. And that's ok. We need to be patient, sit back, and see what happens. There will be moves made. There were always going to be more moves made, I believe.

Suns are utterly dependant on Marion right now -- no chance. Some reports seem to indicate Geoff nixed a Peja for Marion swap back in the summer of 04. Oops.

I don't know about who goes first, but what matters most is how far on that list is the team itself. I'm worried that firing Adelman, trading Peja, etc. must be done carefully and precisely, or else the Maloofs risk alienating more fans.

While it may be best option for the franchise to stage a fire sale, go young and hope for the best 2-3 years from now, I worry that such a move would drive the remaining casual fans and corporate sponsors out, and the team will be gone before the hopes of contention return.

I think the plan was for a rebuilding on the fly to avoid this sort of catastrophe, but it may be inevitable nonetheless. No, I worry that nothing short of a miracle in the form of a Garnett trade may save this team, the franchise, and the city.

Rick Adelman has given us some really good years, but there comes a point with many coaches where the players start tuning the coach out after the coach has been there several years. Maybe it's because the players know what to expect. I liked the way Adelman talked after the game about the lack of effort from his starters, but will they listen? I get so tired of watching Elston Turner during every halftime interview saying we need to do this, that, and the other thing and the team doesn't do what Elston says they need to do. What the coaches are saying is right on the money, but the players don't listen.

No, you don't fire RA because he is bad, since he is a great coach (record, countless players whose careers he has launched or revitilized). You fire RA because the deal has gone sour (for BOTH parties). And you replace him with similar coach who might fire things up temporarily until:

a) he proves that he can take team places, or
b) you find your next long term coach.

Scott Skiles was stop-gap coach in Chicago, once upon a time.

I think it's unrealistic at this point to suggest that we can trade for a big star right now, but I think we can make a trade for a role player who can shoot ............

It appears we have a whole team of role players with no leader and no go-to guys as I've discussed elsewhere. Bibby, Brad and Peja were our core. But Bibby our PG is really a 2-guard now. Brad is up and down like an elevator in a 3-story brothel on saturday night and has taken his rebounding lessons from Vlade too much to heart. Peja is just getting back into a rhythm but he is not getting his looks from beyond the 3, or being setup to get those shots.

We need something for sure. Several times I've heard quick snipets of Grant-Jerry conversations indicating that Elston Turner would be the go-to guy if there is a coaching change. And he is the defensive specialist of the coaching staff. Hate to say it or even think it but something is needed.

We have Cavs, Rockets and Hornets at home in the next week. All winable games. Games 17, 18 and 20. That should be enough to know what or if.....

We couldn't get Deng AND Nocioni for Peja, it'd be for one of them plus filler.

Also, we wouldn't and shouldn't draft JJ Redick. We have Garcia/Martin already, plus JJ is undersized (6'4" 190) NBA-wise for SGs, bad defensively, and not athletic. Very good offensively though (is driving to the basket consistently this season, or near it, supposedly). I expect us to draft frontcourt player(s) in next years draft, as we should.

Ryle - What you have done forever is bag on Rick Adelman every single chance you get. And I see this thread isn't going to be any different.

NO ONE has said he gets a free pass. What people have continually said, and what you've turned a deaf ear to, is that he has done A LOT for our franchise, he has done a lot under very trying circumstances including some of the most ill-timed injuries in the history of sports, etc.

This current mess isn't his fault, although I can put some of the blame for not getting mad earlier at his feet. Petrie built this team. Adelman has to try and get them to play together and he has pretty much tried EVERY single combination possible.

If you would, just once in a while, give the blame elsewhere and - gasp - occasionally admit when Adelman has done something right, perhaps your comments would be taken a little more seriously.

the kings will be hard-pressed to become a lottery team (which is what you need to be to draft reddick), but i definitely think GP and the rest of the front office need to consider the possibilty that they will be taking a much higher pick in the draft than usual this coming year. that said, scouting is essential. high school, college, overseas, and everywhere in between. GP's draft track-record isn't all that great. i would love to see him improve it.

Petrie has made some poor decisions for awhile now, and it has caught up. Wow, even losing House has become a critical foulup. Now the most interesting seeding for the Kings will be how many ping-pong balls they'll get. As Charles B once said, "bad team, man - bad Fu*$%in' team.

I've really loved Bonzi's hustle, defense and obviously the rebounding, but he's been an absolute disaster on offense. He can't dribble, he's not a good passer, he can't shoot a lick, he's been completely ineffective in the post...

Don't get me wrong, what the Kings need more of is defense and rebounding. But I'm a big fan of the Kings' offense, both from a strategic and aesthetic standpoint, and it just doesn't work when one guy can only play one-on-one basketball. Sure, Bonzi brings a lot of the toughness the Kings badly need, but it hasn't been contagious -- if Miller and Bibby are going to keep wussing through the season Bonzi's toughness isn't really going to get them far anyway. Better to get someone who can at least not kill offensive chemistry.

Yeah, but if you keep trading away the one guy doing the rebounding and hustle and toughness, you'll never get a whole team to do it. I'd give up a little offensive chemistry to be able to get more stops/rebounds.
