Where does our cap space go now?

Obviously not a sf, since we now have 5 of them, including Salmons. No AK, no Prince, no Battier. This is with the 2nd round still to come.

A guard? Nope. Traded Beno to make room for Jimmer(welcome Jimmer!). Jimmer/Reke/Marcus will eat up the mins. The cap space wasn't for a 4th guard anyway.

So all this cap space we aquired, while sucking for years, where will it now go? Where is the big splash the Maloofs, and the FO were talking about. Salmons is not a big splash. Neither is Jimmer, just a draft pick. Love him, but didn't take effort or cost cap space.

We're supposed to use our cap space to help get us over the hump, provide leadership, and get a player who can help us make deep runs in the playoffs in a few years. Salmons obviously is not that guy. So where is it going to come from?

Well, its more than likely that one of our SF's will be moved in a deal of some kind. Its also obvious that we need help at both the center and PF positon. Now if were able to resign Dalmebert that would take care of the Center position. But that leaves us with no depth at the PF position. I'm not sure why your getting all upset over this. The freeagency period hasn't even started. There are deals that might require taking back more salary than were sending out. As an example, like Casspi for Jefferson. Replace anyone else with Jefferson if you like. Point is, we don't know who teams will want to deal. The new CBA might ge an incentive for teams to rid salary, and in the process good players attached to that salary.

Your acting like the season is about to start and that we've done nothing with our capspace. Can we at least wait until then to pass judgement. I'm sorry, but I just don't like spending my time worrying about what might or might not happen. I prefer to wait until something does happen before worrying about it.

That's the best approach. The way some people are reacting right now reminds me of global warming alarmists freaking out over the possibility of coastal cities being under water in ten years. Wait until when and if it happens, then deal with it.

Just raising a question. I think it's a fair question. I think we hurt our chances to attract a FA, by the trade we made today. That is why IMO, it's worth discussing. Of course free agency hasn't started, and we easily can absorb contracts in a trade. But I;ve been thinking about AK/Prince/Battier for months, and they most likely aren't an option anymore. Our roster changed, and will effect the FA's we can attract. I think that's more than fair to discuss.

The Kings spent about $42 million on its players this year. With Dalembert and Thornton resigned for a combined $15 million along with all three of our rookies, we will be paying $47 million. That extra $5 million is going to Thornton.

I except Donte Greene to be traded next year for a pick or some cash because he is an expiring contract.

If they want, they can grab a 5th big man to replace Darnell Jackson.

Any other moves would be moronic and excessive unless we could flip Salmons for a better SF.

we need to resign dalembert first and foremost. too hard to find a defensive minded 7 foot rim protector in his prime. If our lineup is:
pg:tyreke
sg: thornton
sf: Salmons
pf: Cousins
C: Dalembert

thats big and long starting lineup, with two good perimeter defenders in salmons and evans(has shown flashes of it), we just need that rim protector in dalembert especially when jimmer is in, or if he eventually starts. Then we still have garcia, casspi, greene, thompson who are all solid defensive players. We will definetly have no problem scoring but we need to make sure we focus on team defense and effort. I also think we can package two of garcia, casspi and greene for more frontcourt help. As it stand if we re sign dalembert and thornton the depth chart looks like this to me

pg:tyreke/jimmer
sg:thornton/garcia
sf: salmons/casspi/greene/honeycutt
pf: Cousins/Thompson
C: Dalembert/Cousins/Whiteside

we can keep pooh and sign another big to fill out the roster
