Whatever happened to Ike Diogu?

I remember at the end of last season, he had some very strong games, and a lot of people were thinking we should re-sign him. He was a big srong body, could defend in the post, and had a nice mid-range shot, though he never really got a chance to showcase what he could bring to the table. So what do you guys think, looking back at it, knowing that a player like him could help the Kings in the "defensive big man" department? I'm also certain that under Paul Westphal, he'd be given the chance he deserved. Also, why is he not getting PT with the Hornets, is he injured?

Isnt Diogu 6'7 or 6'8? That kind of height wouldnt help the defensive bigman department. Why sell ourselves short on a 6'8 defensive big when we can get a 6'11+ defensive big?

He's 6'6.5" barefoot, and is injured.

I don't know if Diogu hated his time in Sac too much to stay, or if Geoff decided that we didn't need him enough to spend $800K on him. But, for whatever reason, he's NO's now.

I think it was more the latter, if quotes from Diogu this offseason are accurate. He expressed surprise that Sacramento didn't approach his agent after he went off in the last few games. Sounded like we didn't try at all.

I don't know... ask the FO because thats exactly what we ended up doing anyway... People who wanted to sign Ike wanted wanted a 1 year small contract deal. I wish we did because I think he brings alot more to the table than Sean May.

Throw Sheldon Williams, Sean May, and Ike Diogu into one pot, stirr until done, and you still have something thats uneatable. :)

I believe it'd have cost the Kings approx $3.5 millions to make Diogu a qualifying offer to keep him in Sac. The Kings declined to do so and Ike became an unrestricted free agent.

Of course the Kings could approach Ike after he became an ufa and make him a lowball offer. But given that the Kings were the worst team in the league with a new coach and no plan to play Ike, most likely he'd still have opted for NO anyway. Plus the pride thing - why'd Ike go to a team that just decided he isnt' worth $3.5 millions?

And all 6-8 and 265 mostly unuseable too. I'd rather have one Brockness Monster in there than any of those guys. They could score tho' but not the defense Brockness provides.

I'm sorry for Ike, though. Barely hanging on as a player and this could very well end any chance he might have, if any.

I think B-ball players need bionic knees and ankles. :p

I have a feeling if we resigned Ike, this same question would be being asked of him. ..And that is why we didn't resign him. Unfortunately, this same thread could be made for Sean May and sometimes Spencer Hawes as well.
