what was the last movie you watched?

Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Don't bother. It's a mess. There is no plot shown in the previews, so at least it is consistent there. You don't really care for the actors much at all, the story is a mish-mash of junk thrown together without a lot of cohesiveness at all, and the acting is uneven. The sad part is, he seems to come up with interesting ideas in these movies but just can't carry it through. And the continued Jar-Jar characters just stink. We don't need the stupid annoying little guys in there for comic relief. The movie is better without them. And there is precious little comic relief in there at all.

It is nice to look at, but ugh, it's kinda painful to watch.

I just can't sit through alot of Michael Bays' films. They give me headaches. I just wish he would try to make his movies without extreme amounts of explosions. As for Transformers, I'll just wait for the reboot (in a couple of years) with a different director.

I am shocked that this new Transformers movie sucks!

Started watching True Grit (2010) last night, was really enjoying it but finding it hard to stay awake in the late evenings so I called it a night and will re-watch today. Getting older really sucks...

I just got back from Transformers as well, it is more of the same except to a larger scope and scale. Humor was fine though, also had some surprise cameos. Some parts looked like a Victoria Secret commercial, Bay has filmed some before. I hate Shia, that's about it. Can't wait until Captain America is out.

Finished True Grit. Definitely liked it, I am not sure what the fuss about the ending was about, it was a downer for sure but my understanding is that the book may be even less upbeat.

It wasn't that it was a downer. It just seemed ... stunted. I don't know, I just would have enjoyed a little more closure or a little better payoff. Minor gripe, though. I got what I wanted out of the movie. Great dialogue is what makes a western, if you ask me.

I liked Transformers 3 much, much more than the second one. The last hour is basically one long pyro-gasm, as you would expect from a Michael Bay film. But the story is much better written than the second one, which was nothing but a two-hour long deus ex machina.

Just watched Shiver which is a Spanish language film. I don't scare easy but this one almost made me soil my pants. It even has a plot that was almost believable. Almost. Watch it alone at night. ;)

Captain America

A little different than many recent superhero movies. Bit more old fashioned. No moral ambiguities. Straight up good vs. evil. Mostly set in WWII. Stay until the credits are all over.

Yep. Midnight showing last night. I thought that all of those things were refreshing to see. Loved it. I also loved the fact that there was only ONE villain instead of 2 or 3 like so many other hero movies... I think it kept it from getting cluttered.

Anyways, May 2012 can't come soon enough.

Agreed on all of this.

Have I missed the Harry Potter discussion? Just got back from seeing it. I'll wait, just in case others have yet to see it.

Generally, from a movie perspective (unrelated to the books) I thought it was good, but not great - that's a bit unfair though, since you really have to tie it to the books, unless you've been seeing the movies without reading the books. I wonder if anyone is in this boat? I know the old guy next to me hadn't read the books, because he seemed awfully confused and surprised by the goings on.

I saw it last night and I think I agree with just about everything you said. I read the books as they came out, so it has been a long time since Deathly Hallows. I remembered the main storylines, but not details. In that aspect, I still thought a few bits were unexplained or not tied together so well.

But I also never expect a movie to be exactly like the book. While I wish movies based on books were faithfully done, they always make changes either due to time limitations or just to simplify the stories for a movie audience.

I've not read the books or seen the movies, I will buy the completionist set once it is released though. So take this with a grain of salt, but I had heard that early on with the first movies that Christopher Columbus helmed there was some complaint that they followed the books too closely to the detriment of making a good movie so when he stepped back they began to give the directors more creative leeway and the middle films are widely regarded as the best of the lot.

Saw Captain America with the wife this afternoon. Pretty enjoyable but I didn't think it was groundbreaking, just a good flick. Save some money and skip the 3D though.

How was the Avengers part at the end of the film? I heard it's awesome watching it on the big screen in the theater. I saw the "leaked" version on another site and I couldn't make out too much, it was kind of fuzzy.

Awesome isn't the word I'd use but its worth sticking around for to see a few glimpses of the characters that don't get their own movie. I usually watch most of the credits anyways.

Just got back from Captain America. Fun action movie. Definitely looking forward to the Avengers movie - I wonder if anyone else will get their own movie prior to that one? Surely they won't make another Hulk movie, no?

If they make another Hulk flick I'm just worried that they'll recast Hulk/Bruce Banner again. After all these recasts I'd probably confuse Bruce with Betty or Samuel Sterns =) Maybe they'll go another route with the Hulk and maybe make him the "Gray" Hulk instead. That would be an interesting storyline/movie.

They tried to lock down Norton to stay but now Mark Ruffalo is Bruce Banner and doing MoCap work for the Hulk with Lou Ferrigno doing the voice (which is kind of cool). Sounds like Ruffalo wants to throw back a bit to the Bill Bixby/Ferigno TV series. Fine by me.

I thought Ed Norton and Eric Bana were solid as Bruce Banner. But I'll never forget Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno as Bruce Banner (B.B.) and Hulk. They are the definitive B.B. and Hulk to me. I just hope that Mark Ruffalo can give B.B./Hulk some of that old school t.v. show flavor.

As for the Avengers film, I'm hoping to see a more realistic looking Hulk cuz I don't want to be looking at too much subpar cgi throughout the movie.

I thought Source Code was amazing. And only 90 mins long. Rare for good scifi to be so brief. Very well done. I avoided talking about it because of the movie draft, I've watched so many films and just kept my mouth shut lately. But I really, really liked this and the director's other work.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes was amazing. Have seen it twice. My gf even loved it. The trailer for the movie does it NO justice. I am really glad I didn't let my initial skepticism prevent me from seeing it. One of the better movies I have seen.
