what was the last movie you watched?

Just saw Word Play the documentary about cross word puzzels and the world championship... really interesting and actually entertaining as well. Some prety high profile puzzle junkies get interviwed including Jon Stewart and Bill Clinton.

American Psycho. I've never seen a movie with an ending like this, it's completely up to the viewer's interpretation. It was brave of the producers to make a movie that is sure to confuse and irritate most of the audience (not to mention the gore aspect). Because of the gore and the bland title, it's never going to get beyond cult classic, but it's a surprisingly smart and funny black comedy.

I just saw The Departed last night and I have to say it is his best movie since Goodfellas. excellent cast, excellent pace and excellent story. My flavourite part is when they are both on the phone with each other.

I just saw this movie tonight and it is SO amazing. It is everything that has already been said in this thread. The best part in my mind is that it lived up to all of the hype. Sometimes w/ an all-star cast/director, etc. the expectations are too high, but this movie exceeded it all in my mind. It is fast paced and keeps you guessing throughout.

Aleksander - I agree with you about the phone scene. Pretty intense! :)

Most of the films that I watch are like this, they usually don't manipulate the audience in order to generate a specified emotion. Rather, it's left up to the imagination and creativity of the viewer, which I personally find to be a lot more rewarding.

I've seen that one a few times myself. It's hard to believe that there is actually a slasher movie out there that's decently made, I think this is the first. Very clever, witty, satirical dialogue and plot that totally skewers the 80's yuppie movement.

Just saw The Matador. For a James Bond geek and a fan of Pierce Bronsan, I saw this as a James Bond retiring parody and in that view, I had a blast watching this.

One of my very favorites.

I finally got to see Lucky Number Slevin...

It's not going to win any Academy Awards, but I thought it was pretty good entertainment. And a large part of that was the "Oh, look. It's _________" factor. LOTS of big names signed on for this one.

I have to agree with Lightforms about The Matador. Greg Kinnear has really grown into a competent actor.

I was watching the spec feature commentaries afterwards. You probably already know this but, the direction and screenplay were done by women. That's a fairly rare thing to see in any movie, much less one based on a book that was railed against by feminists.

The director (Mary Harron) was the one who was dead set on Christian Bale as the lead. I don't think they could've found a better actor to play that role -- looks, physique, or style. He definitely nailed that material, his socially conscious monologues were hilarious, not to mention his music reviews.

Harron even bypassed Johnny Depp, who was interested in the screenplay (which is a good vote of confidence in the film judging by his other work). Later on, the studio tried to replace Harron and Bale with DePalma and Leo. They were planning on paying Leo $26 million on a $6 million movie. Harron claims that Gloria Steinem talked Leo out of the role because most of his fanbase are preteens (this was right after Titanic). Harron walked out on the project if she didn't get Bale, but after Leo backed out, she was brought back in. Interesting story.

I watched 'Poltergeist' on Friday night. One of my all-time favorite horror movies, and what great timing with Halloween coming. I've heard that it is coming out on DVD next year in time for the 25th anniversary, and I definitely want to buy. I hope they have behind the scenes footage of how they did all the special effects. The killer clown doll part has got to be one of the scariest horror movie scenes. And it is very impressive that this film manages to be so scary, yet not one death or drop of blood is shed throughout the film.

Just watched this last night and I have to say this was absolutely one of the best movies I have ever watched. I thought I had it all figured out and then BLAM. Just an amazing movie, I have to go watch it again.

This will go down as the years go by and be talked about just like the GodFather.

The remake of 'The Omen' has finally been released on DVD this week, so hopefully I will be able to see it this weekend. I can't wait! My brother saw it in the theater and said that it was absolutely terrifying to the point where he almost wanted to walk out, and he and I are both certified scary-movie fans.

I watched The Departed recently -- an entertaining movie with colorful dialogue. Easily way better than most of the crap that passes for a Hollywood film these days. However, it pales in comparison to the original cat-and-mouse game thriller Infernal Affairs from which it "borrows" key scenes and plot devices. I expected more from Scorsese but he seems to have lost his edge for quite sometime now. Seek out the HK flick, you won't be disappointed.

CHL... I never watched Infernal Affairs, however after watching The Departed I read up on reviews to see what others thought about this great movie. Anyone that watched IA said the exact same thing... Everyone liked IA better. But those that didn't watch IA usually came away saying The Departed was the best thing since sliced bread.

So I can see you point for sure since so many others have said the same thing.

Monster-In-Law... great movie.. I don't know how many times I watched it by now, I can watch it 50 times and never get sick of it.. so entertaining and hilarious ! love it !

^Layer Cake.. good movie. Sienna Miller is stunning in that movie.

Still havn't seen the departed (today... maybe?)

watched the latest version of the omen and was very dissapointed to be honest.

saw the prestige this weekend. great film. all star cast featuring michael caine, hugh jackman, christian bale, and the ever-so-lovely scarlett johansson. very dramatic, a bit hard to follow, but lots of exciting twists and turns. i enjoy being fooled at the movies. its not often that a movie throws a true curveball at me. i was pleasantly surprised by the prestige.
