What!?!? Rick Adelman might join the Denver Nuggets next season?

Scroll to the very bottom until you reach short jumpers. The Denver Nuggets want him to be the coach next season instead of Cooper. Rick Adelman will probably say no............ right? They are probably just mad because we took one of their assistant coaches T.R Dunn.;) What do you guys think about this?

• Next season's Nuggets coach might be coaching another team now. There have been rumblings Rick Adelman, who knows the running game and once coached Denver general manager Kiki Vande- weghe in Portland, might not return to Sacramento next season. And McMillan and Orlando's Johnny Davis, each in the final year of his contract, could be stolen away.
 
it's possible. if the kings don't play up to whatever expectations the maloofs have for them this year, rick may not be offered another contract. :(

Those rumblings have been coming from Sactown as well, so why not put it out there? If RA doesn't come back next season, don't expect him to be doing play-by-plays for TNT or ESPN, he will be doing X's and O's for some other team.
 
If the Kings don't become champs, I would want Adelman to go to Denver and Phil Jackson coach the Kings.

Besides which, he's too big of a coward to ever take on a project like the one we've got. Doesn't have the best players = no go for PJ. Houston would be more of his sort of gig once Van Gundy is toast. (Or Cleveland, or Miami, but Riley would eat his shoe first before letting that happen).


Far more likely if we don't make it is that we swing into a semi-rebuilding mode, turn over a bunch of the roster, go with a yonger coach.
 
Give up the idea of PJ coaching the Kings. The man has NEVER coached a team that did not have a distinct advantage over the rest of the NBA. This is the kind of guy that is only comfortable bringing a gun to a knife fight. Given the realtive tallent of the top 5 teams in the NBA Iwould not expect PJto coach anywhere untill one team gets more pieces.. Say Orlando swings a deal for Jason Kidd, or Kevin Garnet.
 
PJ has always had exceptional talent on his teams, but he has played a role in developing that talent. Further, he is far superior to Adelman in coaching strategy (substitutions, timeouts, exploiting matchups, etc.). I understand the hate for PJ, but the guy is one of the top 5 coaches ever. Further, I think the smaller town atmosphere of Sac would be attractive to him.
 
I think that'd be an interesting scenario. They can have Rick next season, we'll take Cooper. But it wouldn't surprise me if Cooper did an impressive job the rest of this season and they give him an extension to keep him in Denver for 4 or 5 more years.

1) he has not had "exceptional" talent on his teams, he has always had the BEST PLAYER IN BASKETBALL on his teams. At least on his teams that won. When he didn't have the best player in basketball, his teams did not win. We do not have the best player in basketball, ergo...

2) Small town Phil? Yeah right. Because the turd moves to Montana? You've got the wrong animal -- attention hound. Let's see, former NEW YORK Knick, coaches the CHICAGO Bulls, then moves on to the LOS ANGELES Lakers. Yeah, quite the small town resume he's got built up. No cameras, no reporters lining up to buy into his Zen crap = no go for PJ.

PJ can go to hell. Or be reincarnated as a mosquito. Or whatever his particular religious believes allow for.

If we're into rebuilding mode, almost any young guy. Could be almost anyone.

If we're not...that's hard to conceive of -- this same team, a year older, falling short again, with a new coach? Doesn't make much sense.

Larry Brown's a burnout case who backed into one championship. Great coach -- but at taking young teams and getting them organized, not at taking veteran squads to the very top. If we rebuild might be the sort of thing we need, but not at his age/mental state. Potentially Dick Motta II.
 
The offseason could be very active in the coaching department. The only way I see Adelman getting an extension is by minimun an appearence in the Western Conference Finals.

hey, how bout we hope to re-sign rick adelman! there's an idea!

as much crap as he gets, its occured to me that he's a great coach for this particular kings team. he gives them a lot of freedom on offense, moreso than some see, and too much by other people's standards. take greg ostertag, for example. when a big lunk like otag starts comiling a coupla nice assists, all of a sudden, people start scratching their heads saying, "where did he learn to do that?" rick adelman is not a good coach for rebuilding a team, as i believe bricklayer said. what he is good at is taking the tools provided him and molding them into a good team. he works with what he's got. he knows we are neither a good defensive team nor a good rebounding team, so he puts less emphasis in those areas, knowing full well it would make little difference to do so, short of signing new players. however, he knows that we are a great offensive team, so he makes a point to perfect that offense.

i have issues with RA just like everybody else, but, considering the options--rather, the lack thereof--i think he's a good fit, and i hope the maloofs elect to re-sign him. the only thing that's gonna stop the kings from winning the whole thing--AND IT'S THE SAME THING THAT HAS PREVENTED THEM FROM WINNING IT YET--is themselves.

1) Neither Shaq or MJ were the best players in Basketball until they followed PJ's coaching. Further PJ has always had to handle a secondary player who had trouble accepting that role, i.e. Kobe and Scottie Pipen. He wouldn't have that problem in Sac, unless Peja gets confused.

2) He resume does read with the big cities, but he has said he wants to change that and I think his next job will be in a smaller city.

3) I really think RA is a strong coach and the Kings should only make a change if they can find someone better and that is a short list. (PJ, Larry Brown, maybe Sloan, Saunders).

what are you talking about.... didnt the bulls go to the ecf the year before pj took over.... and didnt shaq do pretty damn well before he even got to la... he was already a movie star..... lol, but mj already had it....

I agree both were great players, but I think they matured under PJ, going from dominant to the single most dominant players in the game and perphaps ever at their positions. I love RA and he has been responsible for a lot of our success. I hope we win a championship this year, resign him and win 10 more. But, since we're talking about hypotheticals. If we do make a change and there is a guy out there with 9 rings and 10 apperances, that is hard to overlook.

(Please don't bring up Shaq's acting. I'm hung over and my stomach can't take that kind of uglyness.)
 
IF adelman leaves in 2005 i only have one thing to say " HALLELUJA HELLELUJAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
 
Well, if Adelman is coaching the Nuggets next year then that means he won't be coaching the Kings which makes me happy

You know, I'm almost ashamed of myself for even thinking this way, but there's a sadistic part of me that almost hopes that, if the Maloofs decide to fire Adelman, the Kings go back in the tank again for like, three years in a row, just to spite all of the people who don't appreciate how good we've had it with Adelman as the head coach.
