What going on with Davion

I think you guys need to give Davion time.

First and foremost, players that work as hard as he does don't grow on trees.

Second, his defense his elite and that also doesn't grow on trees.

Regarding his offense, he worked all offseason to improve his outside shot, that's a big deal, and I've seen improvement in that aspect.

Really what he needs now is to improve another part of his offensive game.

Whether it's a pull up dribble game, finishing inside with contact, just another aspect of offense, I think could be a really big deal.

Again, the guys a workhorse, imagine he spent all next offseason working on a floater what really would you want out of him more?

You guys just need to give him time.
He needs to fit in, as opposed to taking control. Work on your game all you want. If your mindset doesn't change to fit the team's goals it doesn't matter how hard you work on individual aspects of your game. You're in the wrong place.

Don't know of any indication that Davion isn't a team player.

I can appreciate this take. People griping about Davion turning the ball over in garbage time or being unable to run the offense like Fox and Monk never quite jibes with me because situationally, you don't bring Davion into the game for his offense anyway. But one thing I have seen this season which maybe explains why Davion has had his minutes cut is that he seems out of sync with the rest of the team.

Maybe the best we've seen Davion play is at the end of his rookie season and that's worrying entering season 3. It's also very early in the season though. If you look up Marcus Smart's shooting splits the first 4 years of his career he probably should have been benched or out of the league -- most guys would be shooting 35% from the floor and less than 30% from three as a combo guard -- but Boston stuck with him and he eventually won a DPOY award for them in his 8th season. Marcus Smart always felt like he was part of their core though and Mitchell feels like he's fading into obscurity.

That makes me sad because I think it's worth the effort of trying to get Mitchell's game straightened out. He's not going to be expensive to re-sign with his current level of production and he has All-Defense first team potential with the tools he has on the defensive end. Mike Brown has made a point of getting all the guys to agree to a role at the start of the season. I'm curious if this disconnect we're seeing is because Davion is unhappy with the role that was spelled out for him or because Coach Brown has lost trust in him and changed that role after the first half dozen games.

I’m guessing it’s safe to say Mike Brown lost trust in him when he was benched for most of the two biggest games of the past 20 years.

No, I think that was a situational thing. He was playing the hot hand in Terence Davis in Game 6 and everything fell apart so fast at the end of the 3rd in Game 7 that there wasn't much of a chance to make any lineup changes. Also the biggest problem in that game was rebounding and you probably don't bring in the shortest guy on the team to fix that.

Not to mention... Mitchell did get the starting nod for at least two (maybe 3?) games this season when Fox went down so whatever changed to push him out of the rotation entirely changed recently.

would you make either of those trades if were Toronto?
I’m not sure what trades specifically you are referencing, but in general I don’t think Davion has much value around the league. I think we are talking at best a Bagley type return where we luck out by landing a relatively young journeyman (Lyles) that just happens to be a great fit for our team. If there are dreams of landing a big name player, Davion is a throw in to get the numbers right.

someone’s using the ignore feature :D

the proposed trade was Davion and Barnes for Siakam or OG. Even with picks that is likely not getting it done.

Saikam would need more salary. It doesn't make sense just like Levine. OG would only require Barnes. Unless they want Davion they would have to add someone or waive a player to not go over 15
