What exactly is Petrie doing?

I think he's plotting for the free agent class of 2011. NOT 2010 like we all believe. A couple more years of confusing moves that mysteriously end with options around 2011 and you'll see. Take a look, wouldn't you plan for such an extraordinary class a couple years in advance?

We have 27 million dollars of expiring contracts ending in the summer of 2010. Our young guys right now will be in or close to their prime. I would expect a lot of activity in 2010.

Actually the last time I added it up it was 33 mil. Of course thats not counting what can happen between now and then.

It's not that he's eyeing 2011, it's that there's only so many long contracts you're going to have at any one time. So it always looks like he's eyeing the free agent class that's three years away, but in reality he isn't eyeing any free agent class, the team just has a bunch of contracts that have three more years on them.

In my dreams i hope he is shopping miller, moore and douby for a solid pf or a high pick. Also planing to buy out kenny thomas and shareef. Signs Ron and Beno and Maybe even make a run at lebron in 2010, like i said in my dreams

But to answer your question I think if history has shown us anything is nobody knows what GP is thinking.

No wait, the question was "What exactly is Petrie doing?".

Talk about an unanswerable question.

I'd say he is managing a mediocre NBA basketball team. I am sure some would disagree.

I actually think that as opposed to building cap space for a run at a big FA, he's building a large number of expiring contracts that he could use to make one or two deals in the same way that KG and Pau Gasol were acquired this year. With Miller, SAR, KT, Moore, Shelden, Douby, Hawes there's just an incredible amount of flexibility them all being options as expirings. The main reason I believe this is that it would really explain the Mikki Moore signing.

Its also more realistic than expecting an elite free agent would make Sacramento his first choice. Although if we can't swing that trade, we'd still have the cap space as a backup plan.
