What do we do with our #1 pick (prediction)?

The Kings could finish with the #1 pick or as high as the 10th pick. I know I'm asking alot (season's not over yet, we don't know what teams have what picks, college season is not over, etc.) so just for fun predict a top 10 list (If its too hard to choose a top 10, make a top 5,6 or 7 however high you can go) who you think will be available for us and what do we do with it?. I'll understand if it's way too early for a thread like this that's why I said "just for fun".

I think the first 1-3 are already decided from the fans perspective, I would only like to hear 4-7(maybe not even 4) which is what I believe we will be getting.

For myself I have no clue who we should pick, I haven't seen any of them play and only have been able to see high light tapes which sucks since you can make Jerome James look good with those. Of course if we can't get anyone good at 7th which I see a possibility of getting I think we should see if Minnesota(#1 pick?) wants out of Rubio.

I think we will pick between 6-10, and we will end up picking Greg Monroe.

I have that same sick feeling.:(
Monroe is just a little too Petrie for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm a GP fan, BUT he likes big men that play in the high post that can pass and shoot a little from outside and who aren't particularly good rebounders. Notice I didn't use the word softies, but it is what it is.
If the Kings are set on picking a big man when it's their pick, they should let Truck Robinson make the pick for them if they want a rebounding tough guy.

If we fall out of the top 4 we have to consider trading it.

I gotta disagree with you here. Petrie has always been great at finding talent late in the draft, and his weakness has been getting back full value on trades. I'd much rather see Geoff use the pick than deal it (which would likely makes us older, make our cap situation worse, and/or leave us with a later pick a year or two down the line).

at this rate, we'll be picking 10-13

doubt it. the name of the game for the kings this year is "streaky." we might keep up this hot streak for a few more games, but we will inevitably hit another wall and drop some games. we're going to have a good shot at a high lotto pick this year.

This scenario does not bother me. If Cousins/Favors are off the board, I would be torn between Monroe and Whiteside. I think the only real question with Monroe is motivation - he's got great size, very broad shoulders, is a good rebounder (when he wants to be), has offensive skills, sees the court and passes well. I don't think he'll be the defender that Whiteside will be, but he's a complete player. Westphal seems to be getting into the "increase individual motivation" stage (so far it seems to have worked for Hawes) so I'd be pretty happy. Monroe + motivational buttkicking might = All Star.

I've been saying this all season.

I saw Monroe play this weekend in Washington, where the Hoyas lost to Notre Dame. I hate to sound like a player apologist, but it's pretty clear that Georgetown's system is a mixed blessing for Monroe. They keep him so far out on the perimeter, he does get to show off his passing and skill, but he seems to get few opportunities for rebounds or post offense (and he's shown flashes of both).

Again, I'd be shocked to see Petrie pass up Monroe for a project like Whiteside, but it wouldn't necessarily be the end of the world. You'd have to package/consolidate some of our young big man depth to address the team's needs. Revisit the Okafor scenario perhaps with Hawes as a sweetner? See if we could package JT for Thabeet? There are definitely options.

I think the top five guys are pretty established as

Wall
Turner
Favors
Cousins
Johnson

If we can get one of those guys I'm exstatic and we're on pace to have the fourth pick and I can't see us sliding to worse than the sixth pick. I think realistically we could be anywhere from 3-6. We could get passed by a streaky Golden State team if Monte gets hot or we could play solid down the stretch and pass New York and Indiana. I know Washingotn and Phili and Detroit are close but Im confident in the East to feed their basement dwellers some free wins (hey the Bucks might go to the playoffs in the East)

I'd say picking sixth in a five player draft could be a disaster but there's other guys who could become great players in the draft. It's very deep particularly on bigs which we need.

Still if it's outside the top five I'd shop it to see what we could get (Oden with the pick and JT?... Thabeet?). No definites either way though.

A couple years back that's how we got Hawes :( Just missed out on Noah because of a stinking coin flip. The top 9 were decided, and everythign after that was a tossup.. Sure enough we landed just outside the "sure things".

By "sure things" I meant the picks... There were 9 players that were going to go 1-9... After that it was a crapshoot.

I think you mean "please tell why" right?

I THINK just maybe the t-wolves might be willing to part ways with Big Al and focus on Love.

IN
Jefferson

OUT
1st Rounder ( 4th+ )
Thompson
Noc

I might be weird here, but I just assume keep JT and our 1st. I like Landry as our post black hole, and he comes with the added bonus Jefferson doesn't, and that's being a willing defender.

Now if we wanted to swing a deal like that for Brook Lopez and subtract Noci... might be a nice little deal for the nets.

If you were in charge of the Nets would you trade Brooke Lopez?

Kings need to aquire either Big Al, Bosh or Cousins this summer.

I agree: Wall, Turner, Favors, Cousins are pretty unanimous. But Whiteside could be a good sleeper if we fall 8-11. Huge, athletic C with raw physicality that is averaging 15 rebounds/40. A bit more Ben Wallace than Brad Miller (which is why I am a bit "off" on Monroe), and depending on what we do on the FA front for a PG, it may be a great ingredient to add.

Yep I remember sitting watching the draft hoping against hope someone would screw up. It even looked like B Wright would slip to us briefly (not that that would have been a good thing in hindsight)

The funny thing is when we sat down to watch the draft all we said was "plese don't let us take the tall soft center with the high basketball IQ"
It's worked out pretty well though, there were guys taken in those first 9 picks that turned out to be bad picks and Spence has been solid.

throw it in a trade for flexible pieces

I am writing this message from the future....

DON'T DO IT!!! These so called flexible pieces will be with us for years, and we will end up just being waived! I say again... Don't do it! :D
