Westphal announces starting 5 on 1140 (CARL TO START @ THE 4!)

I agree 100% It's hard to recall a time when I jumped off the couch and said: "WTF ARE YOU DOING DONTE!"

Where as I recall doing that ATLEAST 10 times a game with Jason Thompson.... I hope the coach figures this out soon enough so we can still shoot for an 8th seed dream this year!
I'm sorry but this time I disagree. I jump off the couch with that remark at least as often with Donte as Jason. They both drive me crazy.

I think the starting lineup is terrible simply because JT is involved. I was excited about Landry starting because I assumed it would mean JT would come off the bench and not feel as "pressured" to do so well. JT should not be a starter.

IMO

PG - Beno
SG - Evans
SF - Casspi
PF - Landry
C - Hawes

JT can come off the bench and show us why he DESERVES to be a starter, and D. Greene would be KILLER off the bench for Casspi or Landry. I'd also rather see D. Greene start over JT any day and see Hawes play Center.

If Beno starts, we have no backup point guard at all

The physcological thing works both ways though -- part of the reason that Landry is so effective off the bench is that he has the calssic bench player mentality of coming in firing and going all out from the moment he hits the floor. Really in a lot of ways is a blown up BJax figure. But now put that into the starting lineup and it has to be muted. Becomes less effective, less "punchy".

I think its too early in His career to just label Him as a blown up BJax figure player. He's progressively getting better in just His third year. It will be tougher as a starter but whose to say He cant bring it 30+ mins if given the chance. Maybe He did get a chance in Houston but now its a different situation and more experienced to take on the challenge.

I just read the last few posts.

Has anyone suggested this sort of depth chart?:

1. Evans / Udrih
2. Garcia / Evans / Casspi / Udrih
3. Casspi / Donte / Garcia / Udoka
4. Donte / Landry / Thompson
5. Hawes / Thompson / Brockman

What is that, a 9 man rotation? I like it right now.

I think I would go with:

1. Evans / Udrih
2. Garcia / Donte
3. Casspi / Donte
4. Thompson / Landry
5. Hawes / Thompson

For the main starters and main subs. Not going to go 4 deep with detail, obviously like you have shown some guys can play other positions as needed.

Wasnt my idea to start Mandry in the first place, Houston tried that and it didnt work...he's better off the bench. I dont know what Wesphal is thinking...dude was probably going to get 6th man of the year...HELLO!! If it aint broke dont fix it...Adelman learned this already about Carl!

If it ain't broke doesn't apply to the sacramento kings. We be broke.

The only thing I don't like about Westphaul's "new" starting line-up is starting Garcia. Unless he means to play him about 45 seconds and sit him. I thought we got rid of Martin so Greene could have more time? I'd much rather see Greene out there, not Garcia.

Guards, Evans and Casspi
Forwards, Greene and Landry
Center, Thompson.

Someone said starting JT to offset Landry's rebounding deficiency?? Landry is a VERY decent rebounder. Unless he's matched against an extreme big, which there aren't many of.

5.5 board in 27 minutes is anemic for a PF. That's under 10 per 48 minutes. By comparison, JT is over 13 per 48.

Actually, he's a good offensive rebounder, but that only shows how abysmal his defensive rebounding is for his overall numbers to be subpar.

I think seeing where Garcia is at this time by playing him as much as we can before the season end would be a good indicator.

I too wouldn't want Garcia to start if I want to win games. But if I want to see what each player are capable of I have to give them minutes. I'm going to give Westphal the benefit of the doubt this season for playing with the rotation. But next season it better be more consistent.

I can live with Garcia starting for now because he's a vet and Greene is still really young and needs polish but Greene is really the guy I'd want eventually starting at the 2.

it's clear casspi's spot is at the 3 I'm really glad he's starting for us.

Landry definitely deserves the start nobody can question what he brings to the table, where Jt and hawes are still big question marks and need more time. Plus Landry plays his butt off and has earned the right to be a starter in this league. I really don't agree with people who say he has to come off the bench because he can start and I think he could play a little more than 27 minutes maybe 30-35 a night just because he's so much more consistent and I feel like he fits great with tyreke.

one of the main reasons we got landry is because his inside post scoring game works really well with reke and casspi and gives us the inside scoring option we needed to complete the trio and do what we though jt or hawes would do but so far really haven't. plus he adds even more toughness to our team. his ability to score inside and toughness will take a lot of pressure off JT. plus playing at the 4 he won't really have as many height issues as when he has to play center which he won't really have to here with jt and hawes switching back and forth.

currently our best option at 5 is JT especially since Landry can score inside and further negates our supposed need for Hawes because it's obvious westphal and fo hasn't been happy with hawes play and it's obvious why. at least when JT does stupid things it's not for lack of effort. he's a lot more athletic than Hawes and tries a lot harder which IMO gives him the nod over the flacid soft hawes.

Hawes still has a chance to step up his game but his one great game every 2 months doesn't really cut it and he's already came out in the bee and basically said don't ever expect him to be tough and a defensive minded player.

this year in the draft I fully expect us to go after a true defensive center and a couple come to mind I really like cousins and alabi as options at center and very skeptical on aldrich I'd have to see more of him.

but I think 4 of our starting 5 are really starting to come into place and 3 of them are really set in stone.

PG - tyreke/beno

SG - Garcia/Greene (not sure how much longer Garcia will be here via trade or fa or whenever Greene becomes consistent enough to start and I think he's our best fit at SG and feel like he has a real future with our core group and tyrke in the backcourt as a ridiculously oversized defensive monster combo.

SF - casspi obviously our starter for hopefully the next decade. Greene and Garcia will also see time here hopefully.

PF - Landry 100% Greene and JT can also fill in

C - for now JT and occassionally hawes. I think the more JT plays the better and more consistent he will be so I'm glad he's getting the nod.

still hoping for my boy thabeet but who knows if that will ever happen maybe next year. I'm pretty sure Petrie is drafting a bigman this year so hopefully we can get Cousins because the guy is amazing and a monster and would be a great fit for us and really solidify us at the 5. if we pick a little bit lower Alabi would be a huge pickup for us he's exactly what most of us drool over.

I'm not so sure this is going to be a huge issues. The Rockets were a fairly decent rebounding team with Landry. The are on the plus side on average. Scola is their big rebounder at 8.5 a game. Everyone else just kind of contributes and only Hayes had more on average at 6.0 a game.

What does this mean on the Kings? Not really sure. The Kings only had about 1.25 more on the plus side than the Rockets. So not a huge difference. As long as our whole team rebounds as they normally should, I don't think this will be an issue. We'll have to watch and see if this hurts the team or not.

Lineup

I like it... All the guys are interchangeable so its guaranteed Westphal will rotate starting lineups. I'm also excited to see Cisco and Tyreke together. Overall, I'm excited to see the team come together as a whole and play as a TEAM no matter what the lineup.

I really like Greene at SG. That kind of height at that position causes problems, plus he and Tyreke play well together. Casspi probably should be a starter but his can-do mentality and instant energy make him valuable off the bench, and he's young enough this year to accept that job without a problem.

Tyreke
Donte
Cisco
Landry
JT or Hawes
