"A technical foul on Kobe Bryant on Friday against Seattle has been rescinded by the league, leaving him three, not two, away from an automatic one-game suspension. Bryant was called for the technical after putting the ball in the chest of referee Greg Willard a little too hard for Willard's liking. A league spokesman declined to comment, other than to confirm that the foul had been withdrawn."

"Under a new rule, the NBA will suspend players a game if they reach 16 technical fouls in a season. Wallace was called for his league-leading 16th technical Sunday and had to sit out Detroit's game Tuesday against the Hornets. Bryant was assessed his 14th technical of the season in the second quarter of Friday's game when he shoved the ball at referee Greg Willard after he was called for a charge."

"But Bryant said he was talking to coach Phil Jackson and wasn't looking in Willard's direction when he gave him the ball. The league agreed Tuesday, and Bryant took a big step back from a possible suspension with two weeks left in the season."

That would be interesting to say the least. I'd make an attempt to watch.

Apparently the Mavs offered him a tryout, and the guy didn't even bother coming to town. Not sure how badly he wants to play...

Okay, let me see if I have this right... Willard, one of the officials, was standing there and got the ball shoved into his chest by Kobe Bryant. Bryant, who has never done anything (especially this year) that looked like he just might have lost his temper, claims he wasn't even looking at Willard so he couldn't be guilty of a technical.

Yeah, makes perfect sense to me.

Where's the reversal on Artest's technical?

"Frank said the NBA will decide in about a week if the playoff roster policy will change. In past years, teams set a 12-man roster for the postseason. But the NBA is considering having a game-by-game inactive roster, similar to the way rosters have been handled this regular season."

"Guard Earl Boykins will have X-rays today on his broken left hand. More will be known on when Boykins, ruled out four to five weeks after being hurt March 15, will return."

Kinda forgot about Boykins.

"Ex-Gopher Joel Przybilla of the Portland Trail Blazers had nine blocked shots against the Seattle SuperSonics on Sunday. The 7-footer from Monticello (Przybilla) can expect a free-agent deal worth at least $5 million a year this summer."

"The Mavericks are in wait-and-see mode regarding Shawn Kemp. Weight-and-see mode, too. Keeping the roster they have remains the most likely scenario, but the Mavericks are keeping their options open regarding the beefy Kemp and other candidates."

"Kemp worked out for coach Avery Johnson on Wednesday in Houston, where Johnson was with his family as the Mavericks took a day off. George Lynch worked out earlier this week. Christian Laettner also is on the list of prospects."

Kobe picked up tech. #14 tonight vs. Suns, wonder if this one is rescinded too? ;)

If that one wasn't, he would have 15 techies, one away from a one game suspension.

Kings113 and others: Do you know if your technical fouls carry over into the playoffs? man that would be so sweet...

No. I remember reading this in one of the articles where they mentioned that rescinded call.
"If Bryant draws two more technical fouls before the end of the season, he'll draw a one-game NBA suspension. The count starts anew for the postseason. Bryant is second in the league in technical fouls behind Detroit's Rasheed Wallace, who has 15."
You must have a technical like every game to get a suspension in playoffs.

Series? and suspension goes after only 16th technical? Then what's the use of this rule in playoffs?

I'm not sure if the limit of 16 applies to the PO, but I can't find info on that. I do recall reading that the technicals reset for each series, though.

St. Paul Pioneer Press - Don't be suprised to see Wolves superstar Kevin Garnett on the bench during crunch time situations down the stretch, the St. Paul Pioneer Press is reporting, with the team mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.

The Wolves want to get a look at the young players such as Justin Reed.

"It really just makes you trust the guys out there even more," Reed said Saturday after practice. "You know it's just a bigger demand. We don't have a go-to guy, so we have to depend on each other that much more. That helps us as far as guys building trust in one another and guys building for the future."

Reed scored 18 points, his career high, against the Jazz. He made 6 of 14 shots from the field but also drove to the basket frequently and made 6 of 6 free throws. He ran the floor well and provided the energy that doesn't show up in a boxscore.

"Justin has grown by leaps and bounds," Casey said. "Playing with his type of energy is an NBA skill. I've had players like that before (in Seattle) — Reggie Evans, Ruben Patterson. In those guys' careers, they've always been underestimated as far as what they bring to the table."

Interesting....

I agree with them about Reed, from watching him this season, think he can be a good tough impact type of player in the league.

Eddie Griffin in his first start and major minutes since sometime in January. As KG is sitting out the rest of the season starting with this game.

6 pts, 7 boards, 4 blks, 2 ast, 33 minutes

http://www.nba.com/games/20060409/AT...scoreboardhome

McCants picking up where he left off before his first 2 starts coming off the bench, and since those first 2 starts playing well. Big game for 'em.

KG isn't going to play anymore? I can't believe he's okay with tanking it, looks like he went to management and asked for a trade in the offseason.

St. Paul Pioneer Press - Wolves rookie Rashad McCants suffered a sprained right ankle with 9:21 left in the game when he made a jumper and then landed awkwardly on a defender's foot, rolling over backwards in pain. He left the game with 9:01 remaining and went into the training room for treatment; he did not return.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press states that McCants said he was in some pain after the game but hopes his ankle improves enough for him to play tonight in Houston as the Wolves continue their final road trip of the season.

That's a shame, he's had a great 2nd half, and would of continued to show the Wolves good play. I think he got it to them though. Be nice to see Dupree get some more time at least.

Deseret News - With the Jazz hanging by a thread in the playoff hunt, the Jazz have to wonder where they'd be had Carlos Boozer been healthy and playing the kind of basketball he has played of late.

"I feel great," Boozer said. "I'm not going to rate myself. I know I'm playing well, especially considering my injury. You never know if you have a whole season what develops over the course of it, and I'm just trying to make the most of what I have right now."

http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,635199417,00.html

Late, indeed ;). Be interesting next season though, Jazzers just gotta stay healthy.

So far the last two games by the Spurs, still don't really buy that "mail it in till the playoffs" stuff. They haven't been doing that (nor have, the Kings/Mavs losses was partly due to tiredness from the road trip) since the Grizzlies game. Especially Tim Duncan, who's been playing well since then. Also, both the Mavs/Spurs do want that #1 spot in the west. With the Magic winning tonight, distance between Spurs/Mavs for #1 is 1 game.

Denver Post - According to the Denver Post Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin is feeling better, but he made no promises about playing in the team's last three regular season games.

Martin, who has missed the past four games with the tendinitis in his left knee that has plagued him all season, predicted his pain tolerance would increase in the postseason.

"I have the whole summer to rest," he said. "It's mind over matter, mostly. Go out and play."

http://www.denverpost.com/nuggets/ci_3708688

The evidence is circumstantial but intriguing.
Recent Nuggets games have included scoring lulls that either allow Denver's opponents to come back from large deficits, or, as in their loss at Utah on Wednesday, turn a close game into a blowout defeat. In each, Earl Boykins has not been there for his espresso shot of offense.
"We're kind of treading water," coach George Karl said of Denver's bench play without its backup point guard, out since a March 15 game at Indiana with two broken bones in his left hand.
"We're trying to just stay even, not lose what we've gained. A couple of times we've gotten those lifts. But Earl's one of those spark plugs. Sometimes I'll put Earl in the game when the first team's not playing good and he usually lifts us up, changes tempo, changes pace and also can be an energizer on the offensive end of the court."
These days, the starters have less room for an off-night. Since Boykins got hurt, the Nuggets have slowed from red-hot to about break-even, going 7-6. Overall, they are 9-10 when he's out of the lineup, though recently they also have been hampered by absences of Marcus Camby, Kenyon Martin and Eduardo Najera.
Karl has tried five different starting lineups since Boykins broke his hand, sticking with no group of five for more than four games while searching for offensive balance from the second unit.
"He's a guy that comes off the bench and provides a spark with some offense," Camby said of Boykins. "We've been missing that aspect. I think that's why Coach has shaken up the lineup from time to time."
Boykins had his cast removed Thursday and will wear a removable splint for a few more days, removing it in practice to build up strength and flexibility. He called himself "very eager" to get back but does not want to reinjure himself. Boykins and Karl hope he

http://www.denverpost.com/nuggets/ci_3708687

you guys might be in luck

GK is more worried about health at this point rather than homecourt. Last game vs the Jazz there were key guys being rested and healing from injuries (Camby, Kmart, Boykins, Najera). The same may happen next game and it will be a 2nd string team playing alot of minutes for the Nuggets

Either way, i hope its a good game

"The Lakers can clinch a playoff spot tonight, an event they never came close to achieving last season and a possibility they downplayed Thursday, their eventual seeding in the Western Conference seemingly just as important to them. The Lakers are in the playoffs if they beat Portland and Utah loses to New Orleans tonight, although they continue to keep an eye on eighth-place Sacramento, lingering one game behind them."

That one was horrible. He got a block called after Bell plowed his shoulder into his chest. Then he slaps the ball and gets hit. Didn't even say anything. That one reminded me of a Sheed T from a couple years ago.

Btw, there's a loophole w/ this rule. If he wanted, he could've gotten T'd twice before tonight's game against Portland in order to save himself for Phx on Sunday.

Iirc, the reg season T total is wiped clean as of Gm82. You get 7 Ts in the playoffs until a 1 gm suspension.

Oakland Tribune - Jason Richardson continued to apologize for the Warriors 2005-2006 season and offered a confident hope for next season.

"Guys really want to get the team to the playoffs. It eats at me every day. It makes me want to work harder because our fans deserve it. We have the best fans in the NBA. They come out every game. They're just waiting for us to turn things around. I guarantee that we're going to be in the playoffs next year.

"I'm putting my neck out there on the line. That's letting you know how dedicated I am to getting to the playoffs. Like I said before, it eats at me every day, because the fans are so loyal to us. I know once we make the playoffs, this whole city is going to explode."

Wow, Mccants, Bracey Wright, and Marcus Banks showed that they have game today. Maybe Minny should've played them more earlier in the season?

I remember years and years ago when Vinny del Negro used to go nuts in the final game of the season. Really does not mean much.
