Webber: 'New' Kings are tougher

I still think you are reading to much into this.

Or you not enough. Let's wait a trade deadline and see.

He should be smart enough not to give me ( and many others) any more room to "read to much into this" He does not seam to be.

and he prolly didn't even mean it to be as big of a deal as we are making it out to be

that bring us to the question - why even say it ? Why go there ?

I think you would only be happy if C-Webb took a vow of silence. Before you respond ask yourself this question, do you really want to spend your 2000th post arguing with me? (congrats by the way

"I don't know what the word is," he said, "(but) it's like there is a 'bite' of intensity with this group. These are more the types of players I'm used to playing with.

"From Bobby Jackson, who has always been here and who is always hotheaded and ready to go on the court. To Mike (Bibby), who everybody thinks is just smiling and nice, but who is killing people on the court.

"I don't think people realize what Matt (Barnes) has done for us as far as rebounding at the (small forward), giving us somebody who is physical in there and (taking) fouls. I just see us as a more scrappier, hustling, more meaner team.

"The mentality is sort of the same as far as everybody is cool and we have the same chemistry and we joke and we have fun," he said. "But we're not a bunch of silly little high schoolers like I thought we used to be. There is more intensity and maturity. (And) we're not the flopping soft cats we were perceived to be."

it's amazing what can be concluded from a few sentences.

this is worse than my AP literature/composition class, where every sentence from hemingway to shakespeare to conrad is analyzed once, twice, argued about, and then analyzed again. kings fans need to stop reading between chris webber's lines -- because there is nothing to be read there. webber says absolutely nothing in this interview except that he believes he's playing with a tough group of guys who want to win. people can think whatever they want about "peja not being mentioned", and "subtle allusions to vlade divac," but there is just no grounds for the utter dismemberment of chris webber's character. its really very sad, imo. the guy has made mistakes throughout his professional career, but he's tried very hard to correct them, and tried even harder to bring this city a championship.

it amazes me beyond belief how ungrateful kings fans are for this fact. chris and vlade were friends, for god's sake! how can ya honestly believe that chris would be so short-sighted to bash his friend in an interview? vlade, as we all know, was the master flopper, but chris clearly said "we" in this interview, and dammit, that means he's including himself in that group. never does he say him, him, and him, he says "we," and thats where this discussion should end. he says the kings, as a team, were soft, and that they are mentally tougher now than they have ever been. i can appreciate his views, and im startled at how they've been spun by webber-haters and peja-lovers and everybody in between. unbelievable....

On that note: did anyone read the article in the Bee today that talked about Chris Webber's work with the Crocker Art Museum? He's offered to buy a piece of African-American art for the museum at their (and the visitors) choosing. It's great to see how sincere his love for his culture is and his willingness to share it with children is great as well. Not a very smart fellow, is he?

I put my 100o in the Go Kings Thread and we lost so this one is as good as any and I would consider this a discussion insted of arguing

More of that and less of talking would help a lot

It's gonna be real interesting if this is talked about the next few days in the local media as much as we are here. Of course the Superbowl will dominate today.

Chris loves Black art and the cultural pieces...his house looks like a black history museum...he collects so many pieces

i actually watched something on TV about his love for it...and they showed a lot of his stuff...awesome to be able to own the things he has

Bibby's totals of 40 points Friday against New York and 35 Saturday night at Portland were the first time a Kings player had scored at least 35 in consecutive games since Webber had 41 on March 7 and 9, 2001.

Umm, didn't Miller have connsecutive 35 point games the game before? Good reporting.

Also, some might note that Webber has more game winning 3's this year than Peja.

I think it is career, not just this year.

Hopefully Pedja gets one Tuesday.

this really shouldnt matter

the outcome of the game is all that matters, not who made the shot. regardless of who makes the winning shot, it was a team effort to get to that point. its no secret that webber is having a stellar season, considering the injury and subsequent surgery he endured, and that peja is struggling, but we need to stop pitting the two against each other. they have obviously resolved whatever problems they were dealing with (and i'm not so certain there ever really were serious issues between them, beyond what the media blew outta proportion), at least to the point where they can play on a court together. we, as kings fans, should lay it all aside as well.

Agreed

I am shocked, saddened and even a bit angered over some of the posts in this thread. As usual, Webber is perceived to be the bad guy because of things he didn't even bleeping say but some people read between the lines?

What a total and utter crock. At this point I cannot even continue to read this kind of drivel. If there's anything a moderator needs to address, I hope someone will utilize the "refer a post" option.

THIS stops now!

You can make criticisms about players and their actions on the court, but the continual bashing and snide personal comments are over.

Period.

i personally hate to read between the lines...i like to keep things as simple as possible

when i intially read the article i thought "well its nice to see that they guys have a better attitude about things"

i acutally thought that was going to be the direction that the thread was gonna go in but whenever Chris Webber is involved i always stand corrected

recognizing that he flopped doesn't mean we're bothered by it. It's a fact, and we loved Vlade & what he did for this team, INCLUDING the flopping. In addition to having great results from the refs, the entertainment value alone was priceless.

Message to KP:
There was one reason why the Kings lost to Mavs: NICK VAN EXEL.

Message to Webber:
Shut up and play.

Message to Sloter: You're Wrong. The reason they lost was Webber went down. They were on a serious roll that year! The reason they lost "after" Webb went down was NVE. I just lost a lot of respect for you.^

Seems like hating on webber is getting popular............ LOL

But then he seems to be helping out........
rolleyes.gif

I wonder what Peja's reaction will be when his personal HERO and his COUNTRIES NATIONAL HERO is dissed?

I don't care what webber says about players on other teams, in fact I wish he would talk more trash about players on other teams and then back it up..........

I do care when anyone makes statements that could be detrimental to those players still on the Kings.........

As the self appointed team leader wouldn’t it be more prudent to avoid sullying the motivational “tough team” talk with comments about players that are not even on the team anymore???

Once again, people don't listen to the message but instead criticizes the messenger. Not everything said or not said has malice behind it. He's not dissing Peja but simply complimenting Barnes on a good job thus far.

If anything, he seems content with the combination of players they have.

The whole flopping thing is a big joke. I don't know why people get so offended by it.

not once in that interview did webber make a statement that "could be detrimental to those players still on the kings." all he did was heap praise on the guys he's playing with now.
