We might seriously have a shot at 1 of B. Wright, Conley, or Yi!!!!!!

• We have the Grizzlies selecting Mike Conley with the No. 4 pick in our latest mock draft, along with a note that the Grizzlies are deciding between Conley and Yoakim Noah.
As of Friday, it appears that the Grizzlies, with new GM Chris Wallace in place, are leaning toward Noah. We'll make the update on Monday when Mock Draft Version 5.0 comes out.
Part of the reason that the Grizzlies are leaning toward Noah is that both Jerry West and Wallace are very high on a point guard they can get much later in the draft -- Petteri Koponen. West was the only GM in the league who actually went to Finland to see Koponen work out. Wallace fell in love during Koponen's workout in Orlando for around 10 teams.
The problem is that the Knicks, Suns and Spurs also like him as a prospect for the late first round. That means that if the Grizzlies really want him, they'll likely have to pry a pick away from a team in the 20s -- maybe a team with multiple picks, such as Philadelphia or Charlotte. Their bait right now could be Alexander Johnson -- a talented second-round pick from last year -- and a future lottery-protected No. 1 pick.
For a more detailed look at Koponen, check out my report from the workout I saw in New York.
And how 'bout this? With the Hawks leaning strongly toward taking Al Horford, the Grizzlies eyeing Joakim Noah and the Celtics looking at Corey Brewer, there's a real possibility that Florida Gators could go 3, 4 and 5 in this draft.

If MN takes Hawes and those 3 gators go that high then we're guarenteed to have a shot at 1 of Green, B. Wright, Conley, or Yi.:D

It sure is nice to have Chris Wallace making draft picks again. Especially when he isn't doing it for my second favorite team.

LOL. I remember Bill Simmons writing something like this in one of his articles:

"only in the NBA does someone from the 2nd worst team become the GM of the worst team".

They have Villanueva. Maybe they draft Green/Brewer.
That's why they wouldn't bypass BWright...add to the fact that he blew his workout out of the water and there is only one way Wright slips past #6 and that is if Horford is there(which is like Oden being there).

Have you all seen the Mock drafts lately? Seems that a lot of people have Yi dropping to the Kings..

All of the above have Kings taking Yi.. I am thinking that Yi's whole "CALIFORNIA" vibe mgiht have teams scared of taking him. He might fall into our lap..

Plus a lot of news of Atlanta trading the #3..

Who would you take if you had the #3? Horford, Yi, Noah or Wright?

I actually think we might have a chance at Conley, while many teams are interested as he is the best point guard there is just too much other talent that will be available at those higher spots. I agree that Wright might fall a little, but to 10 is doubtful.

My best guess is that the Warriors will trade up either with the Bucks or Bulls to nab Yi... I hope I'm wrong.

Both the Yahoo and Hoopsvibe mocks are "powered" by Draftexpress. So there are three that have Yi falling to 10. Yeah, I'm being nit picky.

i like belinelli as a late 1st round pick. from the various clips of him on the internet.. he looks like he could play some point. he has pretty good handles for his size.

Belinelli would be just more of what we already have. No thank you.

I'm hoping so much that the celtics pick Green, I really don't want us to draft him.

Same. I kind of like him but he really lacks a position IMO. I think he's too slow to guard SFs and his standing reach(8'7'') is too short to let him do anything at PF.

God if we could get 1 of Yi/Conley/B.Wright this draft would really be a succes. The funny thing is if that happens its like having an awesome player fall into your hands because the GMs ahead of you flat out suck.

Same here! I hope that Green and J. Wright are not Kings in a week...

I am still hoping that somehow Yi falls to us. That would be great!

All it takes is for two out of Green/Hawes/J. Wright to go higher than 10 and someone we'd really want (Brewer/B. Wright/Noah/Yi) is going to fall to us. I think we have pretty decent odds.

Also, I really think that Petrie should have a conditional trade in place with Detroit or Philadelphia -- if Yi and Noah are off the board at 10, we trade down for two picks and go for Jason Smith and Kryrolo Fesenko.

i like your plan b nbrans

it seems to me like minnesota is banking on drafting conley since they just traded their starting point guard mike james. i would think thats what they are looking for. If they don't get him, they are kinda screwed considering the the next best point guard is expected to go around 12 and 13. they should trade us their pick.

Thing with Minny is they may be thinking of Foye as the new starting PG. Some fuzzy there -- at other times I have suggested sending them Bibby for their pick if they think Foye is an OG. But basically they have had a whole stack of veteran PGs, and not one who ever worked out. So maybe they are going to call Foye it, and try to find an OG (Brewer maybe) rather than Conley. They also have been looking for a center...basically for the entire history of the franchise. The best they have ever had, as in ever, might be...Luc Longley?

The general feeling I've gotten from minny fans is that they expect Foye to be their PG next year.

i remember jay bilas talking up foye up so much, saying he was gonna be the rookie of the year, and that was the last i heard of him. last year had almost no rookie buzz. hopefully this year will be better.

Randy Foye was actually pretty damn good last year...You must be confusing him with someone else. He was on the NBA All-Rookie Team last year.

I definetely dont see Brandon Wright falling below 5 or 6, Conley is doable, that is unless Portland makes a trade for another pick and nabs him, Yi...I just dont know...he could go anywhere between 5-10 at this point, we definetely dont know how that will go...Milwaukee might take him to shore up their front line...a Yi, Bogut and Villanueva frontline is kinda scary. Jeff Green...well, he's a tweener, and we already have a handful of them, and I dont see us taking him unless we trade one of the tweeners we already have. I dont like it, but I still see Petrie taking Spencer Hawes, for some reason.

I can see Petrie taking Green but I would not be happy with that pick. As you said, he is a tweener and I am not sure he has what it takes to be a small forward in the NBA. He is that "multidimensional" player that Petrie likes. A jack of all trades but master of none. I am hoping we can get someone better, with more upside than Green. I just don't like Green and Julian Wright at all.
