Most boring game of the playoffs so far. Predictable play, predictable result. Here I was in the other thread preaching team basketball, and these guys put on a display that rivals only watching paint dry. :D

Yea, I agree this series is boring. I mean there is only 3 posts in this thread alone compared to all the other playoff threads. LOL

boring?

maybe i'm biased as a spurs fan, but there were three flagrants and a broken nose in the last two games. seems pretty exciting to me.

houston rockets forum has 382 posts about the series so far - second to lakers/thunders.

It's boring in that we knew that the Spurs would somehow suddenly return to form in the nick of time and we all had a hunch that the Mavs would have another one of those true-to-form epic collapses.

Im VERY surprised that the Spurs are leading this series 3-1. I honestly thought Dallas was competing for a championship this year. What a choke job. Its funny I thought Dallas and Denver were the two teams (more specifically Dallas) that could knock LA out of the playoffs. Now it looks like neither team will make it to the 2nd round. I dont like the matchups that Utah and SA have against the 7akers. Makes me angry.

To be honest, I had Dallas pegged for defeat in the first round. I just had that feeling about the entire crew (not to mention the two prior massive choke-jobs the Mavs have been part of).

Spurs are way to deadly you cannot eliminate the championship aura that team brings and the fear they still bring during playoff time....

Dirk has 4 fouls w/ 5 mins left before half and Mavs down by 20 pts.

Cuban looks steamed to say the least watching his floundering team struggingly mightily to score against suffocating Spurs D.

The Mav's are imploding--just no sense of composure. Cuban is going to blow a gasket when they lose this game, I almost suspect a firestorm in Dallas this offseason and certainly once this game is over (barring a Dallas comback win)

Game 1 failed to capture my interest, I was not distracted by the predictable result. Now that Dallas is suffering another fantastic implosion I'm totally interested. I just haven't felt a need to come back and post more until 2 minutes ago.

The Spurs are ridiculous.

Somebody on Bleacher Mob made this during our series against the Mavericks in 2002. Nice to know some things never change.

San Antonio simply has smarter, better players overall than Dallas, superbly coached, more full 48 mins determined, playoff killer instinct - like 4 time NBA championships they are. I think they take out their next opponent Phoenix or Portland and roll on to WC final. I thought adding Jefferson to big 3 mix would be huge but it's been George Hill who has really blossomed in a big way.

Only four of the above five statements are true: on paper, Dallas should have won this series in six, not lost it.

Wow, talk about not running your offense through your centers--Haywood two shots in 21 mins, Dampier one shot in 21. Considering Kidd will always play for the assist rather than for the shot, they're basically running their offense through Dirk and Butler. That's some serious imbalance there. Not surprised they lost.

Spurs Vs. Suns. Round 2

It's like a recurring nightmare for the Suns and a dream come true for the Spurs. I did not think the Mavs would have deteriorated so badly AGAIN.

Soooooo according to some mavs fans on RGM Cuban was thinking about taking that team apart before the deadline, and now after the 1st round exit could think about doing it again. They've never won a championship in the Dirk era. What do you guys think????

Well, I've never like Dirk but its never really been his fault. He's always played huge for them in elimination games (including tonight), he just never gets enough help. The fact that hes a 7 footer who can be guarded by smalls doesn't help though.

The failure of the Dirk era rests solely on Cuban. He blew it on Nash, not paying up what the Suns were offering thinking he was already over the hill. The fact is, a whole contract later, Nash is barely beginning to slow down.

If he had forked up the money then for Nash instead of forking up all the extra millions now for Kidd/Butler/Marion they would have at least a single championship, if not two or three.

Maybe Dirk opts out of last year of his contract - seems he's now thinking about testing free agency after lastest Mavs playoff debacle.

Alot of people said he wouldn't opt out because he'd lose too much money. But that roster is on the decline. A lot of those guys are tied up with long term deals and make too much money, and a lot of them are old. If he becomes a FA and he'd be willing to sign with a small market team, I'd have to say SIGN HIM. Give dude the max. Sure he never won the title as a #1 guy but he might win as Reke's #2. We'd be in position to make a title run soon. Too good of a chance to pass up IMO.

The Mavs just confound me. Of the choking teams of 2006 and 2007 only three players are left, even the coach is gone. Still, they manage to maintain that mentality, it just doesn't make much sense. Whatever they do, it always results in not meeting their expectations. This and this only, could be areason for Nowitzki to leave the team. As for the Kings signing him: Never, ever, ever is he going to leave Dallas for anything less than a contender.

I think I would try to get Dirk. It's not his fault they suck. Get him while he's still an assassin.

I suspect there's going to be a lot of articles over the offseason linking Cuban to almost every major free agent/trade bait piece out there--he's the type who likes to leave his fingerprints on everyone. He'll try to trade for another high caliber offensive sixth man, as he did during the Van Exel-Stack-Jamison-and now Terry years, and/or force Carlisle to play Roddy for minutes next season. And of course, it will mean nothing because he's just a guy who likes to stockpile on talent but the talent is never able to completely mesh with each other.

Heard this on the radio today:

Mavs won 50 games for 10 straight seasons including this one. Only other teams to do that in NBA history:

Lakers 80-91 (82, 85, 87, 88 Champions)
Celtics 59-68 (8x Champions)
Spurs 00-09 (03, 05, 07 Champions)

Looks BAD when you consider that the only other teams to match what the Mavs have done won multiple championships (and those are only the rings won during the 10 year streak- they won more outside of it).

Dirk has definitely had a lot of changes around him and props to keeping the team afloat, but the fact that he hasn't sniffed a ring outside the Wade finals screams regular season player.
