Vlade Potentially Joining Kings Next Year

Hall of Famer
NBA.com: What would you like to do when you come back to the U.S.?

Divac: I would definitely find some involvement in the NBA with some team. Right after my retirement, I was doing some scouting for the Lakers. I tried to see how management works. I went to Real Madrid, worked for them for a year. That helped me to kind of develop some interest in management. So now my second term on the Olympic committee of Serbia — and I’m so proud of that, we did a great job — so something in management.

NBA.com: Have you had any conversations with anybody?

Divac: With the Kings, yeah. We’ll see.

NBA.com: What do you think you would do with them?

Divac: My ultimate goal is one day — it doesn’t have to be tomorrow or two days, three days — I want to be a GM. Go level by level.

NBA.com: Have they told you “When you’re ready to come over, we definitely want you”?

Divac: No. We just talked. I told them my view about plans. We’ll see.

I wouldn't mind adding him as a scout or have another guy to help out on the player development side of things.

Vlade Divac is exactly the type of person Vivek surrounds himself with. Having him join with the current front office would be another step back in the right direction. (And no of course I'm not prejudiced in any way. ;) )

I like vlade as an org development or player development. Not sure about a GM position....

Of course, we already have GM and as Vlade said he's willing to work his way up in the organization. Seems GM is his goal but that would be years from now if he ever got the position. In the meantime there's no better salesman and advisor in any FO capacity for all things Kings. Hopefully, he comes back to Sacramento.

I love Vlade as much as anyone, but I don't know if his personality, which I love, would make him the best general manager.

That being said, he'd make a fantastic addition to the management staff. He could be an elite level scout/consultant/chemistry guy for this team.

Absolutely love it. Remember the last time he started working with a big that was young, had some issues, yet extremely talented? He turned into C-webb. Or how his entire tenure with the Kings were the best seasons in Kings history

He'd be a great personality to have around the team and I think he'd be great to improve our international presence with scouting.

Would absolutely love him back as a member of staff. He's a legend in the organisation, his presence can only help. As for GM, skeptical of his style/personality becoming successful as a GM, but that's way in the future and probably unfair of me to think of him solely in terms of how he played (which btw isn't an insult, he's one of our all time greats).

I would love to have Vlade Divac on the Kings. The only thing is if he coaches Demarcus Cousins, I hope he doesn't teach Demarcus Cousins how to flop!!!

Cousins doesn't need to flop. He's one of very best in the game at taking the charge. It makes up a bit for his shot blocking deficiency. Besides league rule against flopping has changed since Vlade's days with now fines, etc.

Dear God, please let Vlade come back to the Kings organization. His personality would be welcomed greatly. I don't even care what he does as long as he's in the building with the guys on a regular basis.

Doesn't Vivek need another "Advisor to the Chairman"? Would love to see Vlade back with the Kings in some formal capacity.

I don't think Vlade could be anything but a positive for any NBA team. Please let it be for the Kings.

(He does plan to finish his term as President of the Serbian Olympic Organizing Committee.)
