Virginia Beach Kings?!

As much as I hate the notion of it, and as much as others might disagree, I think it might be time to enter a new phase of "talks" with the Maloofs, which is possibly acquiescing to some their demands within reason, as they hold all the cards.

The NBA doesn't want them to move. How on earth does that translate into "they hold all the cards"?

There is no wiggle room here. The Maloofs can either accept the deal that was on the table, or they can watch their funds slowly decrease until they have to sell, or they can try to sue the league to let them move. Option 1 means the Kings stay. Option 2 means the Kings probably stay, because the league will force a sale to a local group (perhaps Burkle). Option 3 likely means the Kings stay, because nobody sues David Stern. Right now, there is no option 4.

Should they have accepted a great deal that was plush for the average owner on terms that they verbally agreed to, ofcourse.. but they weren't happy with it, they have the team, and holding out on the hopes of a personal crusade by a soon-retiring David Stern or hoping that the other owners of the NBA feel sorry for us for a long period of time will start to become more and more tenuous as time elapses.

As much as it sukks, looking at some of the Maloofs demands and seeing if there is some wiggle room to try to meet some of them is still a lot better bet than trying to build an arena without the team

That's the thing, their demands weren't anywhere within reason. It went beyond the city building them an arena essentially for free (considering the NBA was fronting their money) and into wanting to not even paying taxes, like, ever.

And the Maloofs weren't providing "wiggle room." George's whole lunatic press conference outburst was about how the family wanted these things and didn't get them so no deal.

You can't negotiate with crazy. And that is what the demands were. Just out there.

Stern himself helped negotiate the agreement on behalf of and at the request of MSE. Then MSE goes sideways and says they don't accept the deal because it is bad for the City.

They negotiated in bad faith. Everyone knows it. The question is, what happens next?

That pretty much says it all...

Option 4- they are forced to sell and the NBA relents and let's them sell to out-of-town owners who move the team.

Is there an option 5 to make the Maloofs option work?

The NBA has to approve ownership changes. They also have rejected larger offers for teams to keep them in the city they are in. I don't think option 4 is an answer when there have been above-market offers for the team to keep them in Sacramento.

Option 5? Frankly, no. Not unless George is out of the picture. With Joe and Gavin on their own, maybe??? But every reasonable deal or effort to get a new arena in Sacramento is shot down by MSE. No reasonable offer to every party will be approved of by George/MSE at this point. We just saw it with the last round - the NBA negotiated a more than fair deal at MSE's request, volunteered $7 million out if the NBA's pocket, and offered to finance the payments for MSE.

And that was railed against (by MSE) like you were killing kittens with rolled up seal skins while idling SUV's on the glaciers in Greenland.

Due to the increased revenue sharing which will be taken place, it will be harder for the Maloofs to lose money if they intend not to, short of a boycott which would give them just cause to leave

We can wait for them to be forced into a deal they don't like, or can't do, while other markets ratchet up their bids and Arco increasingly crumbles.

The NBA was not going to allow them to move because of all the effort they put into hammering out that deal, no doubt. Over the long haul, I don't know if there is that much precedence recently in pro sports of forcing a team to stay where they are indefinitely, especially without a modern facility

A boycott at this point would undermine everything the fans and groups like #FANS have worked so hard for. The new CBA has more restrictions on revenue sharing, so the Maloofs cannot just count on that to put them in the black.

If the NBA does not allow the team to move it will be because of the dishonesty and lack of anything approaching business acumen currently shown by the Maloofs. As long as the public supports the team in spite of the poor management by the owners, the more chance we have of the NBA actually taking some kind of punitive course against the Maloofs.

Of course, that's assuming the Maloofs don't do the job themselves first. What kind of sports franchise would allow their online team store to be down for TWO MONTHS without resolving the problem?

I firmly believe the Maloofs are going through their last bits of disposable income. At this point, they have to be hoping that Adrienne gets a very lucrative divorce settlement

Looks as though the maloofs see it differently, they think that her husband is trying to take their "family fortune" so they urged her to file first. apparently arena deals arent the only thing they like to sabatoge.

"Adrienne's family is concerned that Paul is going to try and get a piece of the family fortune, even though there is an iron-clad prenup in place. Paul got very used to the perks of being married to a Maloof, and they felt that the longer the separation went on, the increased chances that Paul would try to use the couple's three children to get more money out of her in the short term," the insider added.

The Maloof's own the NBA Sacramento Kings and the luxurious Palms Resort in Las Vegas.

Radaronline needs a fact-checker. If they can get something so basic as ownership of the Palms wrong, what else did they goof about?
