Tyrekes Arrest video

Truly shocking. I could pretty much write her stuff for her at this point.

But she missed a chance to whine about how this could have been prevented had the powers that be kept Kevin around as a sweaty muscular mentor and hired Larry Brown as a coach, since he has a great understanding of a kid's psychology and stuff.

She's slipping.

She doesn't like Tyreke. And she never misses a chance to point out any mistake he might make. I just love her logic. Because he did something very stupid on the freeway, he's now less of a basketball player. He's the reason we no longer have Hawes, Martin, or Nocioni. This woman is letting her personal bias affect what she writes. I'd like to ask her, where were all the articles about problems in the locker room prior to this incident? Why does she wait till now to bring up all this other stuff? Why was she so compasionate in her article about Musselman after his DUI? Why wasn't he less of a coach and unable to lead the team any longer? Why didn't she advocate taking his keys away?

Nope, this woman just doesn't like Evans and has lost all objectivity. She apparently has no ability to separate Evans personal life from his job.

do they always arrest you in the US just for wreckless driving? With guns and taking into custody and stuff?!!!

With all due respect, you might want to read entire thread and maybe you would not ask such "stuff." Key words you used which do not apply are "arrest" (Evans was not arrested, merely detained at the scene); "taking into custody" (he and his friend were handcuffed only for a few minutes in what was potential felony stop which had initial lone arriving motorcycle cop erroring appropriately on the side of caution). Under the circumstances of 130mph pursuit, dangerously weaving in and out of busy freeway lanes and vehicle with illegally tinted glass - it was a by the book routine, not excessive force stop by LE.

To put it nicely, she (Voisin ) is an idiot.

Her whole argument is flawed. I think her big picture point was that Tyreke needs to earn his leadership role .. My question: does she watch the games?

Who was our best player last year? who had the ball in crunch time? who made our 25ppg SG become a trade piece? Tyreke Evans. Its not like we just let him loose and didnt produce... he was hands down without a doubt our best player. No question.

Who does she think should be the default leader until Evans meets Voisins standards of 'ready'? RickyRubio?

I found the following line especially idiotic

Nonetheless, if you're the Kings? Break out the street signs. Slow down. Stop and think. You can't hand Evans the keys to the franchise if he can't control himself on the freeway. He isn't ready to be your floor leader when he's so oblivious to his surroundings.

Sorry, These two things have nothing to do with each other.

They can impound your car and shuttle you to the station if they have cause. At those speeds they usually do. Also, that is not a neighborhood you want to get arrested in (like you ever do). I have lived in that neighborhood, I have taken my daughter to that park, and I can say that the cops do reach for the guns a bit prematurely. Not their fault, the area is the northern reach of Del Paso Heights, a damn near ghetto. In the video you can't see the two large low income type apartment complexes that are a block west of the park that have constant drug problems. My friend once hid behind a u-haul at a gas station shootout over there.

Seems ESPN responded faster to this than the CHP

Yeah, I wish they didn't release the video. It seems every idiot wants to write a story on it now. Of course when it happened everyone didn't give a **** because the finals were on, but now nothing is happening so they want to make him seem like some gangster or something which really ticks me off.

Anyone want to guess how many games he will be suspended for? I am just hoping no more than 3.

As I recall, Artest when with the Kings was suspended 7 games at start of season after his domestic abuse situation which got him a 20 day jail sentence (he got out after 10) plus community service. Considering all his previous baggage (outrageous brawl, pathetic starving dog, etc.) maybe 7 days was a gift by the NBA. I don't know what Commish Stern will do in the case of Evans, but no doubt he's well aware of previous incident in PA and the fact that a lesson needs to be learned right now. No more living on the EDGE of foolish juvenile abyss Tyreke.

One wonders -- Derrick Rose and LeBron were both ticketed doing 100+ a couple of years back. I don't recall there being suspensions involved there. The commissioner normally hands out suspensions and whatnot for things that actually get you arrested and booked -- drunk driving is far more serious legally for instance.

I don't even know if its comparable, since just about everyone has gone 100(except me, stupid 4 cylinder engine), 130 might be a special case. Also a lot of reports bill it as 120 to 130, do they even know what speed he was going?

Did you watch the video? They give a running commentary of his speed throughout the video. At one point they had him at 130 miles per hour.

This is being blown WAY out of proportion. It's not like he pulled a Ben Worthlessberger or something. Seriously, he took a risk, as any 20 year old male is bound to do. Was it smart? No way. Was it reckless? You betcha. Did anybody get hurt? No. So GTF OVER IT!!!! If he does it again, or something worse, then its cause for concern. Until then, people need to grow the F up and stop throwing stones in their glass houses. I'm talking to you, Mr. and Mrs. Pretend-To-Be-Perfect.

For those that don't know how a helicopter keeps track of the speed of a car. There not using a radar gun. Next time you drive down interstate 80 or any interstate, you'll notice if you pay attention that there are big white stripes on the shoulder of the highway that are about 8 to 10 inches wide. The helicopter has a computer that clocks the amount of time it takes a car to travel from one white stripe to the next white stripe, and converts that back into the speed the car is going.

Its not as accurate as a radar gun, but when you doing close to 130 miles per hour, it doesn't have to be.

As far as I'm concerned its over and done with. And it probably would have faded into the sunset if not for the video. Although I have to admit that the video is fairly dramatic when you watch it. Personally I'll be stunned if he ever does anything like this again. Pretty embarassing stuff. I'll also be surprised if the league suspends him. As pointed out, there have been other players that have gotten tickets for wreckless driving and haven't been suspended.

I hope you are right. Also for the speed, I watched it a couple days ago and couldn't remember exactly what they said so it seemed odd that realgm and a few others were quoting 120-130.

Anyone saying that that was excessive by the police is wrong. Even without tinted windows they'd be drawing the guns. He was driving like a maniac for like 10+ minutes and then rolls into a residential area and then to a school with people around.

ehhhh... I didn't notice the tinted windows at first when I made the comment but it was not a felony stop was it? They shouldn't have guns drawn on traffic stops like that when the driver is totally compliant. I would have freaked out and been pretty pissed if they did on my traffic stop. I do NOT like guns pointed at me. I freak out if someone points a fake gun at me so if that happened at a traffic stop where I was being totally compliant I might have freaked out a bit and ended up in jail.

Exactly.. they have no idea that this is Tyreke driving around having fun. So yeah.. It could be someone that just killed his family and is going to the school to get the last few kids in the family... or some other weird reason. Police have to be careful.. scary job I'd never want.

Come on... Every stop could have its "what ifs" and if they did guns would be drawn at every traffic stop. There should not have been guns involved for a stupid traffic stop when he really wasn't doing anything wrong at the time they actually pulled him over.

Yah... Stupid stuff.. "What if a kid darted out"???? What if a kid darted out when he was doing 30MPH in a 25 zone.. If it happens it's gonna happen. I don't think people can really advoid anything that "darts out" of nowhere in front of a moving vehichle. I live in the country and the rabbits out here can attest to this. I must have hit 50+ rabbits since moving out here because they dart out of the brush in the night about 10ft in front of your car. Sometimes the tires miss them, and sometimes the tires run them over.. It's hard to avoid things that just dart out of nowhere lol. Voison is an idiot.

I wanna know where the parents are if these kids that dart out onto interstates seemingly on a regular basis in Sacramento.

wreckless driving is wreckless driving and 25mph over the speed limit is considered wreckless driving. so if its 100 or 130 they don't have an extremely wreckless driving clause anywhere.

Evans did a really stupid thing. The CHP released the video, because the media (Bee, probably, or more) filed a request for the video under the Freedom of Information Act. Personally, I think it was a bit of sensationalism, especially since it comes after the courts have already handed out the sentence.

FYI, I used to commute out of town on that stretch of freeway and drove it fairly frequently. If you drive 70 (over the limit) cars pass you like your standing still. I would guess the average speed out their is 80-90 miles per hour. So most cars are driving way over the speed limit, unless its slowed way down by rush hour. I drive a little too fast, but the speed of cars on that stretch of 80 always amazed me. A lot of people should get tickets out there. Unfortunately, the CHP can't stop them all.

I just thank god that Evans didn't kill himself, his passenger or anyone else in his path that day. I sincerely hope he realizes how stupid and immature that was. Go fast on the court, Reke, not off it. A lot off people are hoping you have great success in the NBA, Don't blow it with stupidity.

Speaking of stupidity....Voison's article was just that.

By the way, I wondered about the other driver. It was a friend of Tyreke's. He turned himself in and has also been sentenced for reckless driving.

Reke needs new friends. And cousins.

Where did you read that? It could have been significant on the street racing charge, although now that he has already been sentenced for reckless (not wreckless guys :p) driving, maybe no.

That's all I had in my 91 Eclipse (2.0 L, non-turbo) and it went over 100 once or twice when I was young. ;)

But I think in the video they say "120-130" at one point. I don't recall ever hearing only "130."

As it turned out, it was both reckless and wreckless..Oh picky one....

I went 130 in my RSX-s That had a nifty Greddy Turbo on it.. Aslo did about 130 in my Nissan 350Z. Both coming down Grantline from Sunrise late night (straight road where you can see for a couple miles). Stupid, yes, but it's quite a rush. But getting my 100+mph speeding ticket settled me down. I don't speed much anymore...

I miss my fast cars, but I don't miss the tickets.

Sorry, I should have posted the Bee link. Tjhere's umpteen articles about this whole thing and I had to find the right one.

Evans' attorney on Friday said the other driver was a friend of Evans', but not someone associated with the Sacramento Kings. That person later identified himself to police, and also pleaded no contest to reckless driving charges, Portanova said.

You're right...he needs to find some other friends.

Having a little girl changed my son's driving habits for the better. Thank goodness.

You know, I finally got the nerve to read Ailene Voison's recent article, regarding this incident, and I couldn't believe it! What is wrong with her??? This latest article was so slanted that it was obvious that she is holding a grudge of some kind. When are we going to get better writers at the Bee??? This is absolutely pathetic!!!
