A lot of teams succeed without pass first point guards. OKC with Westbrook is probably the most obvious example, then there is Chicago with Rose. Two contenders heading into next year without pass first point guards.

And not that any of you will believe it, but every defensive metric I can find points to Vasquez being an on-par defender with Reke. He's also an equally good rebounder. Think a bigger prime Andre Miller if you want a comparison.

Say we do this swap and back it up with Ak47

PG: Vasquez
SG: McLemore
SF: AK47
PF: Ppat
C: Cousins

With Thornton, IT, JT, maybes PPat to go shop around to make improvements.

This is why advanced metrics need to be taken with a grain of salt. Does anyone really think that Vasquez is a better passing, shooting player of equal rebounding and defensive abilities as Reke? A bigger, better shooting prime Andre miller?

If so, why would his team be so eager to replace him?

You mean the system in Chicago where Thibs can turn any group of guys into a defensive juggernaut? Or that Durant guy paired with Westbrook? Or the fact that Reke isn't close to Rose or Westy level?

uhh cause they got one of the best young PG's in basketball with Jrue?

Metrics, advanced or otherwise, are unable to take into account the players around the player being measured. You know what? I am sure Vasquez does look decent defensively playing for a defensive minded coach backstopped by Anthony Davis. Imagine that. Meanwhile Reke is operating in a system where he's virtually the only guy even trying on defense half the time, there is no shotblocking, nobody switches right or rotates or calls out a pick, and the team ranks 29th in defense again.

BTW, I am not anti-Vasquez. If we could get him cheap he's an interesting player. He is however not worthy to hold Reke's sweaty jock, and swapping the two would be a signficiant, SIGNIFICANT, step back in talent for a franchise that needs every drop it can find.

So enemy one of three has been cleared. :D

There is a reason Vasquez is been passed up by two new potential players for the Hornets, they prefer both Holiday and Tyreke. Tyreke on the other hand hasn't been iven a chance to play as PG, not to mention the fact he has more potenntial, is younger, is more skilled. He is a better match with McLemore than Vasquez is, imo. Tyreke/McLemore gives us two big ways of scoring, one's a three point shooter and the other drives to the rim well. With Vazquez/McLemore we have, well, three point shooting.

Evans tops Vazquez in defense/potential in defense too... Not sure why this is even a question. We can have a potential top five guard in the future, or someone who will always be mediocre who was not considered by his previous franchise as the future at the point...

Yes but they went after a of and are in the process of signing another one that apparently doesn't have pg skills to back him up. If he was the player you claimed on a team with holes, why replace him?

That wasn't the question to which you replied. He is not, nor has he ever been a pass first PG. Can he penetrate, draw defenders and dish? Hell yes he can, as can Reke. But he does it from a scorers mentality as he is a big time threat to score when attacking the paint.

As many have said, there's multiple ways to create good looks and you don't need a pass first PG to do that, as SA shows with Parker, or we did with Bibby.

He makes plays for others within their system. Doesn't take away from how good he is. He's a master at the system San Antonio runs. He's just not a creative playmaker like Chris Paul is.

What are we arguing about here? All I said is Vasquez would be good for Boogie to get easy looks, something our team has never done for him. Is that such a deplorable statement?

Well we have never seen Boogie paired with Reke at the point, so that could happen with Evans as well.
 
Match it obviously.. who knows if Mac is even ready too start at SG... we may need Evans at SG this year.

If Mac is Ready too play SG, then we should try Evans at PG for a cuple years. If it dosent work out then we trade evans or mac for someone that fits.

The comment was directed at the original comment of contenders with pass first point guards. Specifically in calling Parker, a pass first guard was reaching. In regards to that comment saying that Lin and Lawson played for contenders is also reaching.
 
11 mill for a guy who is still a question mark and whose game doesn't match well with your best player seems like a bad risk to me.

Nor are Lin and Lawson pass first. I'll give him Rondo and Kidd (who did not win a championship as the main PG, and is one of the greatest PGs of all time)
 
If we would have got Iggy, i would have voted S&T. But at this point theres no reason not to match it. Tyreke better realize what that contracts means though, alot of responsibility the organization is putting on him. I want to see him become a leader, show tenacity, and at least have a respectable off the dribble jumpshot, and develop things ling teardrops, baby hooks, a left hand, become a elite defender. Everyone says match no question, ignoring the clear holes in his game if we ever want him to be the kind of player a lot of you guys envision him as.

Don't match. Tyreke is so overrated and not worth that kind of money. I'll take him for 8million/yr
