I don't see the high end for Rose, never have. Not even about him, its about his size and what he is. Now two games into thw season he had a big game and has big all around numbers, and if that holds maybe we'll need a new mold. But otherwise he is not big enough to be a physical guard, not a good defender or rebounder, and so mostly a scorer/passer. And what is the high end for a tweener sized scorer/passer? There is a real problem there -- a cap. You score TOO much, you actually begin to drain the rest of your team if you're a PG, and the only modern guy you really have to look to once you get above about 24ppg is Iverson. Maybe Monta. You have no other models. Now you can pass more of course, and end up as a 20-10 guy and compete with Deron/CP3, and that's a worthy high end goal which would require a HUGE step forward in his passing ability and court vision. But without the other things its not quite franchise player stuff. I have repeatedly asked various people to tell me who is Rose's high end comparison. Who's shoe's is the myth of the Rose as franchise guy supposed to walk in, and there are no answers. 6'3" 190lb scoring PGs without the all around game are not true franchise players, or have never been until now. Perennial All Star, sure. But MVPs, champions as the main man...who's the model?
Reke has always had the clearer path to the top. We have seen both the giant physical PGs ala Oscar or Magic or Penny (who was not as good as people claim) and of course the entire MJ/Kobe/Wade class of SGs his size as well. All of those guys, at whichever position, had physical dominance and filled up every corner of the stat sheet. He may or may not make it, but the paths are clear there. Guys built like Reke have made it before.
