Tyreke Evans' Shot Selection

it was an interesting read, though its a fantasy basketball type of stats article and not how his shot selection affects his play or the teams. but it is interesting, he attempts 8.4 shots per game at the rim but only finishes 58% of them. which isnt bad but it isnt great, lebron is at 72%. beno is at 73%, though he only averages 2.5 per game.

its kinda funny how evans shoots 12.5% from 10-15 feet but 43% from 16-23 ft... lol...

That means he's getting in the lane and creating his own shot more often than not. And guess what? His opponents know what he's trying to do, and they still can't stop him from getting to the rack.

This was my favorite part of the article. Tyreke looks like a football player when he charges the lane and bumps smaller guards out of the way.

That is ironic, becuase I was going to start a thread around here using those same stats (that site is agodsend this season) back before he got injured.

In fact here was the beginning of that post that I had saved off in a text file for later completion:

First of all -- Tyreke leads the entire NBA in shots taken at the rim. Everybody. He is already one of, if not the best, to the basket players in the NBA.

Here's the thing -- the players Reke's shot chart most closely resembles? Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Carmelo Anthony, and then our old friend Gerald Wallace:

Reke:
At Rim: 8.4 <10 Feet: 1.7 11-15 Feet: 0.6 16-23 Feet: 3.7 Threes: 2.1

Anthony:
At Rim: 8.3 <10 Feet: 1.8 11-15 Feet: 2.4 16-23 Feet: 7.2 Threes: 2.4

Lebron:
At Rim: 7.0 <10 Feet: 1.4 11-15 Feet: 1.3 16-23 Feet: 5.8 Threes: 4.6

Wade:
At Rim: 6.9 <10 Feet: 1.9 11-15 Feet: 2.0 16-23 Feet: 6.4 Threes: 3.3

Wallace:
At Rim: 7.4 <10 Feet: 0.8 11-15 Feet: 0.2 16-23 Feet: 2.2 Threes: 1.8

Looks familiar eh? :-p

And as an aside, my next paragraph would have been about precisely what the author -- who did a pretty good job btw, intimiated: the At The rim shot attempt chart is a who's who of great players. There is NOTHING you can do offensively as dominant as take it to the rim. You wander over to a stat like 3ptrs and the list is a mess of good players, weaklings, roleplayers...there might be 1 All Star in the top 20. You go over to shots at the rim and you have half of the All Star team in the Top 20.

You beat me to it. This is the point I was going to make. The ability to get to the rim and score on a regular basis is what seperates the stars from the wannabe's.

It's cause he gets too razzle dazzle when he heads to the hoop. Sometimes it looks like he's making it harder on himself then it really is. When he steps back and takes that J he's sure of himself, when he's dashing through the lane on a one horse open... ya you get what I mean

Hunh? That makes no sense. There is no razzle and barely any dazzle to his game.

Have you been watching the same player as me? The white Spaniard who plays unnecessarily out of control is Sergio. Tyreke is the no nonsense guy who can get to the rim at will.
