Evans acquitted himself quite well as a point guard against Stephen Curry. Curry outplayed him, but Evans put up 12pts, on 4-8 shooting, 6reb, 9ast and 4stl. Any time a point guard has more assists than shot attempts, he had a damned good night.
He may be unavailable for the back-to-back in Memphis tomorrow, though: he took a hard knock to the shoulder making a game-saving dive for a loose ball, late in the fourth.
yep, an 11-0 ast/to ratio, and I've still got a team to root for in these playoffs.Shout out to Tyreke Evans, who played as well as he's ever played, in the biggest game of his career: 19pts, on 9-15 shooting, 4reb, 11ast, 3stl, 1blk, and no turnovers.
Is there a bigger indictment of Keith Smart than the fact that, in 2011-12, he had DeMarcus Cousins, Tyreke Evans and Isaiah Thomas, along with Marcus Thornton, JJ Hickson, and Hassan Whiteside, and only managed to win twenty-two* games? What couldve been..![]()
To provide fair coverage, it should be noted how Tyreke's year ended:
Tyreke wilted in this last home loss vs the Warriors.
Guy was scared to shoot the ball (with good reason - when they dropped completely off him and dared him to shoot, he barely hit rim) - and he was utterly ineffective at driving to the hoop.
He was relegated to simply making a little shimmy, then having to pass it off to a teammate. Most of his 5 "assists" were padded - the guy he handed off to simply made a shot (after a move - so why'd he get the assist?).
I guess I just don't tune in to all these great performances you guys talk up in this thread.... because every time I watch Tyreke, it's the same old thing.
Asik is one of the best centers in the league? He averaged 10 pts/game on 32% from the field for the series. He was 18% from beyond the arc and 59% from the line.
He is one of the reasons the Pelicans were swept. The Pelican guards simply looked like children next to the GS guards.
In 6 years in the league he has never been an All-Star and has never won a play-off game despite playing with the best centers in the league.
He continues to disappoint.
It's not even worth the energy, man. There are people here who made up their minds on Tyreke Evans, years ago. As far as they're concerned, he'll never be able to do right. I mean, let's ignore the fact that Evans was the only real constant on that team (Davis: 14 missed games, Gordon: 21 missed games, Anderson: 21 missed games, Holiday: 42 missed games). Let's ignore the fact that, if it weren't for Evans averaging 17/10/4, en route to leading New Orleans to a 4-1 record at the end of February, without Anthony Davis, that they never would have made the playoffs in the first place. So you didn't even watch the Kings Pelicans games?
So we're ignoring everything he did over about three months to help get NO to the playoffs in the West as NO's 2nd best player while also ignoring he was playing injured in this series and questionable to even play in game 2, while Holiday was also far from healthy? He averaged 10 pts/game on 32% from the field for the series. He was 18% from beyond the arc and 59% from the line.
