My first thought was that they majorly overpaid Lawson. He is a nice PG, but not worth that kind of money.

Seems fair to me. He's at least a top 10-12 PG, a couple notches below Paul/Rose/etc, just outside of all-star level. If you're banking on him to take the next step, 12 mil is a reasonable price.
