Trade Suggestion: Fox for Simmons + #28

Fox needs to step it up. He doesn't get the "young and inexperienced" excuse anymore. Remember when we had arguments about whether or not Cousins was a franchise player?

With the way Fox is playing, he's not even in those conversations. If not now, then when? We have the right types of players around him: 3pt shooters+multiple ball handlers to take the pressure off of him. If anything, this is the year he should be excelling. If we gave 5th year DeMarcus Cousins our current roster, we'd be top 6 in the West right now.

I don't think our roster lacks talent. I think it's poor coaching, leadership, and Fox's struggles.

With that being said, I don't think Ben Simmons is going to fix those problems. I hate to even bring up his name, but Fox for Kyrie Irving would instantly make this team better. Not sure he'd want to play here though.

Part of the issue with Fox and this roster (particularly Haliburton and Mitchell) is that he doesn't really NEED secondary ballhandlers to take the pressure off him. That's primarily because he's simply not as effective without the ball in his hands. I don't think it's a coincidence that he's had better games of late with Haliburton injured. Maybe in time he'll learn to play off another playmaking guard, but right now he clearly struggles with it.

Ben Simmons doesn't fix poor coaching and clearly he wouldn't bring leadership. But what he would do is balance the roster and add defense.

Haliburton and Mitchell play well together. Holmes thrives off the P&R with Tyrese. And Simmons would need shooters around him and the Kings have Mitchell, Hali, Hield, Barnes, Davis, and even Harkless, Metu and Len who have all shown they can hit from outside a bit.

Fox
Haliburton
Harkless
Barnes
Holmes

is just flat out not a better starting five than

Mitchell
Haliburton
Barnes
Simmons
Holmes

Ideally, I'd like to see us get someone like Wood at C to space the floor further.

Trade #1: De'Aaron Fox & Tristan Thompson for Ben Simmons & Seth Curry
Trade #2: Marvin Bagley & 2022 SAC 1st (Top 8 Protected) for Christian Wood

Leaves you with a roster of...

PG - Mitchell / Curry
SG - Haliburton / Davis / Ramsey
SF - Barnes / Hield / Woodard
PF - Simmons / Metu / Harkless
C - Wood / Holmes / Len / Jones

...and the minute distribution could look something like...

PG - Mitchell (28 min) / Curry (20 min)
SG
- Haliburton (30 min) / Davis (12 min) / Curry (6 min)
SF
- Barnes (22 min) / Hield (26 min)
PF
- Simmons (32 min) / Wood (8 min) / Barnes (8 min)
C
- Wood (22 min) / Holmes (26 min)

Simmons = 32 min
Haliburton = 30 min
Barnes = 30 min
Wood = 30 min
Mitchell = 28 min
Curry = 26 min
Hield = 26 min
Holmes = 26 min
Davis = 12 min

One thing is for sure. Mitchell, Curry, Halilburton, Davis, Barnes, Hield, & Wood is about as much spacing as Simmons could dream of.

If you want to get really crazy, you could expand the deal to...

DAL Gets: Richaun Holmes & Terence Davis
DAL Gives: Kristaps Porzingis

HOU Gets: Marvin Bagley, Damian Jones, & 2022 SAC 1st (Top 8 Protected)
HOU Gives: Christian Wood

PHI Gets: De'Aaron Fox, Tristan Thompson, & Mo Harkless
PHI Gives: Ben Simmons & Seth Curry

SAC Gets: Ben Simmons, Kristaps, Porzingis, Christian Wood, & Seth Curry
SAC Gives: De'Aaron Fox, Marvin Bagley, Richaun Holmes, Tristan Thompson, Mo Harkless, Terence Davis, Damian Jones, & 2022 SAC 1st (Top 8 Protected)

PG - Simmons / Mitchell
SG - Haliburton / Curry / Ramsey
SF - Barnes / Hield / King
PF - Wood / Metu / Woodard
C - Porzingis / Len / Queta

Mental health is a serious issue and can be extremely debilitating. I’d refer you to Kevin Love’s article in the players tribune.
Yes, mental illness is a serious issue that can affect your day-to-day living let alone doing any kind of work. However, Simmons claiming this as a last resort after all his phantom physical illnesses didn't pan out is not a good look.

Even if you overlook the injury risk and the fact that he's still significantly slower after recovery and adding weight, he's shooting under 30% from 3 this season and his ability to stretch the floor would be the only reason you'd want him since he's a poor defender at the 4 or 5.

Yea, I watched a decent amount of Dallas games last year, because of sports betting plays. Each time, KP was just underwhelming. On defense, Dallas basically stuffed the paint with 7 footers (KP, WCS, Boban, plus 6'10 dudes Powell and Kleber). A few times times, KP got caught outside of the paint and it was painful to watch.

Mental illness is a serious matter but is this really mental illness? Of course none of us are there so we don’t really know. But I’m only going by what I see and it appears he got bent out of shape at criticism…… is that really mental illness? Not the way I see it if so.

I mean, the way the 76ers handled this, how could it not be a mental health issue? This guy was thrown under the bus by his coach, then the star of the team, then the GM, they never really bought any of it back. The whole thing has been a cluster since day one. There is at minimum an on court mental health issue in regards to how he played in the playoffs and in the 4th quarters of games. I'm sure this exasperated that.

I'm not saying Simmons handled this great, but what options were here for him?

Unfortunately, the 76ers have no right to be informed oh his counseling or psych status, unless he allows them that access. I have a child dealing with stuff right now, and the counselor has flat out told me, unless they are a danger to themselves or someone else, they cannot break confidentiality, even to a parent of a minor. They sure as crap can't break it for a grown ass man.

They won't break it but they sure in heck will make you responsible for paying for it.

I could get on board with this but it's risky with Simmons. I'm not worried about his on court play or a few shots he did or didn't take in a few 4th quarters. I'm wondering if he actually has mental health issues or if he is just throwing it out there for sympathy. If he was able to show up and be his normal self, I'd probably do it but there is a chance that he could be DOA and just be our problem instead of the Sixers'.
