Trade Scenario(land a true PG)

ok lets say that Evans really doesn't show the ability to play the 1 @ the NBA but shows a tremendous amount of skill as a combo guard who is really suited for the 2 (ala Dwade)

what do you guys think about this deal?

Chicago Sends: PG Kirk Hinrich, C Jerome James(expiring), 1rst round pick

Sac Sends: SG Kevin Martin, PG Beno Udrich

Why kings do it: Get a true PG who can really be a good fit next to Tyreke because Hinrich is a 1 that can play on and off the ball, get rid of beno's contract

Why bulls do it: a true #1 scoring option to match the other pieces that they have that can replace Gordon

Why is everybody freaking out over needing a TRUE PG???

Evans was drafted to be THE PG! so why bring in another PG?

for all we know the Martin/Evans backcourt could be deadly...

why trade Martin before we ever get a chance to see Evans play 1 game at point and before we get a chance to see if the Martin/Evans backcourt works?!?!?

trading Martin right now unless its a "HANDS DOWN" steal landing us a superstar player.... just doesn't make any sense...

if we do trade Martin we need to wait till the end of next year... his value could be much higher than it is right now

this is just in case Tyreke can't play the 1 in the nba(which is extremely likely considering he avged like 6 TO's in summer league...)

It is WAY to early to have this discussion. By the time we do find out if Tyreke can play the point or not, 2-3 yrs down the road, our options in terms of what we can get in a trade will be completely different than what they are right now.

dude... summer league is a totally different game... its messy and ugly... look at the officiating and the amount of fouls players get... almost all the players haven't ever played together... they're all learning the offense... etc...

Evans TO"s mean nothing... minus he handled the ball more than anyone else... as PG's do

the NBA is much more open and smooth... his TO's will go down. keep in mind he's still a rookie and he's not gonna be perfect. hes in some ways a project...

i actually was impressed with his passing ability's in the summer league...

the moral of the story is ITS WAY TOO EARLY to make any deals or even think of making any deals for Martin or another PG...

this is just in case Tyreke can't play the 1 in the nba(which is extremely likely considering he avged like 6 TO's in summer league...)

It's also extremely likely that he was still getting to know his teammates, the coaching staffs, the team and the systems they run.

And Kirk is overpriced and not good enough to just give up a solid scorer and an ok back-up PG for.

Martin for Heinreich? REally?

I hope that Martin doesn't read these threads. He's certainly undervalued by quite a few people on this fourm. He's not Michael Jordan, but Hinrich. Please! Plus, I don't want to see Jerome James taking up space on our bench. Talk about a classic underacheiver. Of course, he could introduce May to his weight loss program.

Evans will play the point guard just fine. Like Sactownfan said... his high TO rate was from the summer league style of play. Its much much different. I don't think we are going to be seeing Brandon Jennings throwing up 15 and 8 all season long either... and by the way, he only averaged 4.2 to's. Brandon Jennings averaged 4.2 and Johnny Flynn averaged 5.2, are they not point guards either?

I agree that summer league stats can be misleading but we should at least be open to the possibility that Evans could be a great player, just not at PG. Most, if not all, of the scouts and NBA people interviewed about Evans have called attention to the fact that he may not be a pg. Does it mean we have to go find a pg? No. But its rare that a player can be effectively transitioned into a position that isn't their natural fit. If he'd be better suited at sg (which it may take a little time to tell), I think its reasonable to consider trade options.

That's what I am saying. The Kings are not trading a Beno/Kmart package for Jerome "Trashbags" James, Capt. Kirk, and some first rounder in the 20s. Why would they do this? To get rid of an underperforming PG and a all-star caliber, young SG who has a good attitude and improves his game via hard work every offseason? It is too much to sacrifice just to get rid of Beno.

Sooo, basically combined with the Noc/Miller/Salmons trade, your plan is to turn the Kings into the 2008-2009 Chicago Bulls? ;)

Did I just read a suggestion that we trade for Kirk Hinrich and Jerome James and indicate that you thought it would improve the team?

absolutely not. not now, not ever. This is bad on so many levels.

I have my doubts Tyreke can be the team's PG also, however, when I opened this thread, I was hoping it would be "trade martin for CP3" or something that would be equally unreal, but more fun to think about.

I still don't understand why people de-value KMart by adding Udrih to the deal. I'd rather trade Kmart with some other assets straight up for a top level PG (D-Ron or Cp3) or by himself for a Harris...

He played point better in college. I know the leagues are different but he has play maker skills. He doesn't really have a "naturally fitting" position. Like he says, he's a player not a PG and not a SG.He would be best utilized as an oversized point guard as well, because there isn't very many pg's who can guard someone of his size in the NBA. I'm open to a trade... but the right trade, which, in my mind, certainly doesn't involge Kirk Hinrich.

Agreed. I'm open to trading Kmart if Evans is a stud of a Sg (and not a point) but it should be the right deal. Which this isn't.

Where is the true point guard in the deal? Certainly you don't mean Hinrich.

Wade was considered by many to be too small to be a sg in the league. Many questioned whether or not CP3 was tall enough to be a pg in the NBA. There are questions about every single player who comes into the league. Why don't we wait on some answers before jumping the gun?

And I agree with bajaden, if Martin read these forums I highly doubt he would still like the fans of Sacramento. This is a very bad trade proposition, one that would remind people of Kwame for Pau....

handing chicago a true SG on the platter to go w/ rose? all we got for martin is hinrich????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I'm totally fine with the general concept, just not with Hinrich, who is relatively old for the team, and who I just don't think that much of as a PG. If we didn't try to combine it with a Beno salary dump, I think we could get a fine PG for Kevin, who was more consistent with our being a little ways into a rebuild.

1) like it or not, this, or any similar deal, will NOT happen this year. This year we will be finding out how Evans does at the PG, rough edges or not. We aren't busting up the team for the elusive "pure PG" this year, or barring a disastrous performance, likely even next year.

2) this deal made me go eek. Unless you have some nifty snazzy way to guarantee me Chicago will be picking Top 10 next year and that's the pick we get, somehow I think Kevin Martin for Kirk Hinrich is not a winner for the Kings.

is gary st jean doing the talent evaluation here? martin > 3 hinrich's

If you could look up Peter Principle in the dictionary, Gary St. Jean's picture would be under it. But hey, more power to him. He went from highschool coach, to NBA coach, to NBA GM with BS and personality as his weapons.

Sergio Rodriguez was brought in to be our 'TRUE' PG in case Evans doesn't cut it. Trading Martin for Hinrich is a lot like cutting your nose to spite your face if you ask me. It's just stupid.

like it or not, this, or any similar deal, will NOT happen this year.

That could be the motto of the Personnel forum... y'know, just sticky it or something. Over the next year, we will collectively propose hundreds of trade ideas which won't happen, regardless of the fact that most of them will make more sense than, e.g., signing Mikki did.

I come to this particular forum for entertainment purposes only.

it feels good to be a kings fan.... our top draft pick might not be a pg, lets trade our sg for a crappy pg. where "maybe next year" happens... wheres the classical music at.?

and people complain about my off the wall trade proposal thread ideas....

this is just a terrible trade idea, we dont need a guard. We have our core now we can just add to it by trading anyone outside of it. We don't need to mess it up. We're sticking with what we have.

PG-Reke, beno, sergio
SG-Kmart,Cisco
SF-Nocioni,Greene
PF-JT,May
C-Spence

Pretty much how I feel about our future... except you missed Casspi.

wow... thats our team roster? we havent made a move in so long i forgot who we had on our team. youre missing casspi and brockman but damn, this team is scrub-tatstic. short of a miracle i cant see this team winning 30 games. i know this is off topic but wow. we need another center like we need air.

See.. the way I look at it... It's the potential I'm looking at here....

JT and Hawes can be pretty solid low post players (JT has very good athleticism for a big man and Hawes has good outside shooting ability, if he develops a passing he can be our Valde of old).

Then we have Tyreke who have the potential to be a very deadly combo PG. He can get to the lane at will. People seems to ignore how important that can be. He could break the most free throw attempt for a rookie record.

So when we have our low post presence, K-Mart will be fed more often from Evans, JT and Hawes.
