Trade: Is anyone safe?

At what point will people realize that we are the youngest team in basketball who have had 2 head coaches within 13 games of the season? This is the product you get with young guys who don't have a system to follow and without a true floor leader on the floor. It doesn't help that we don't have our only vet who seems to be willing to be our team leader in Hayes out with an injury and John Salmons deciding he's going to be beyond suck with us.

The worst thing the team could do is panic and blow up the team. we've seen how good this team can potentially be on several occasions; the Laker game, 2nd half of Milwaukee, etc. It's all a matter of finding a coach who can piece these parts together and building a chemistry amongst our star trio and finding role players outside of Chuck who compliment them.

Tyreke
Thornton
Greene
Hayes
Cousins

is what I'd like to see with a healthy Chuck. It maximizes the offensive potential of the trio and leaves Hayes as a mop-up guy and Greene as a spot up 3pt shooter (which is the roles we need from those positions). It also gives us a multitude of offensive options off the bench which we can sprinkle in throughout the game.

Thread: Trade: Is anyone safe?

I don't think so. But is anyone available to trade for? I think not. It's great for some to talk about but I believe nobody is moving right now. So how will the team do in these next coming games? I don't know but I do know that I will be very interested and hopeful. The bad loss last night was very explainable - we didn't hit shots. Our guys will not leave it there. Hang in there, folks.

Youngest team in the league is no excuse for the dreadful basketball we've been witnessing. It's not like they're a team full of rookies. Hayes/Salmons/Garcia/Outlaw, vets. Hickson/Thompson/Greene, 4th year. Evans/Thornton, 3rd year. Cousins, 2nd year.

Any situation that gets us a true PG and puts Evans at SG (where he belongs, if anywhere), also moving Hayes and MT to the bench works for me. My ideal?

Trade for Hinrich, put Kirk at PG OR pull 3-way to get Bargnani from TOR with Kleiza, likely giving up JJ, JT, Salmons, Greene and Garcia for the lot.

C- Cousins
PF- Bargnani
SF- Kleiza
PG- Hinrich
SG- Evans
-------------
6- Hayes, C/F
7- Thornton, SG
8- Whiteside, C
9- Fredette, PG
10- Powe, PF (Sign as FA)
11- Outlaw, SF
12- Thomas, PG
13- Honeycutt, SF

If it goes bad, Hinrich is gone at the end of the year and we still have Evans to dangle.

I disagree on Bargnani and Kleiza, but Hinrich looks to me as a good fit. An exceptional leader, who can play off the ball, facilitate and hit open shots. The one thing I'm not sure about with Captain Kirk is his health, otherwise I'd love to have him here.

I don't think Petrie is going to change anything though, we'll just have to wait untill the offseason for things to happen

There is no excuse period, for getting blown out the way we've been getting blown out. That said, the "vets" you mentioned, save for Hayes, are kinda useless if you haven't noticed by now. And Donte Greene has played less minutes in 4 years than he's spent jumping up and down leading the Goon Squad.

My thoughts exactly. Keep this as the starting lineup. There are a few guys on the bench that can bring energy and scoring. Basically just ride this starting lineup to the end and let them figure each other out.

Mid season trades - well any contender will be looking for talent to put them over the top, the problem is who would want any of our
players? (other than out core 3)

So that leaves non-contenders that are looking to shed high salary who might trade good players with big contracts to get cap space for next off season

We have two bigs that salary comes off next year JT and JJ
After looking at non-contender teams with big salaries I see:

Okafor - may be good match but Long term big bucks
could be too much for long term
Bargniani - big bucks but too soft and dont need more scoring

Varego - Big, tough, only 8.4m for 2 more yrs
JJ 2.3 mil adds 6.1 to Sac P/R cavs get 8.4m off their books

SF - Igoudala 14.7m for one more yr
trade Donte and Garcia for 8 mill adds about 7 mil to Sac P/R
Philly saves 8mil and 6mil year after

new lineup

C- Varejo, JT,
pf- Cousins, Hays
sf - Igoudala,Salmons
sg - Thorton
PG - Reke,Jimmer

9man rotation

10-man IT

Whiteside,Honeycutt, outlaw (injuries only)

I will never understand why so many people are hell bent on playing Tyreke at the 3. It just doesn't make sense to me.

It's harder to defend him from the wing. It's easier for teams, especially teams with a semblance of a defense, to load up on Tyreke at the top of the key. It's not as easy from the wing. Let somebody else like IT be the ballhandler and see what Tyreke can do from the wing position. He's strong enough to guard most 3s, and he's definitely more than quick enough.

Intentionally playing small = intentionally playing to lose. Not to mention that fact that ina well designed offense teams loading up for Reke because they know their PG can't stop him would be exactly how you would ruin them. Drive and kidk or drop every single play. People often think the power of star players is in them scoring. Its not. The true power in star players is that all the attention they draw allows everybody ELSE to score. Or can, if you have an offense.

Yeah, Smart intentionally played to lose against the Pacers. Alas, he won. Too bad. So sad.

Small ball can work for a happless team like the Kings at various points in the season and at different times in the game. It's not a recipe for a championship, but you can win some with it during the regular season if you have the right guys. And what is central to this whole small ball vs not small debate is what are left with if you play a conventional way with a conventional lineup. On this team, you're left with crap. The status quo conventional thinking isn't working for this team. It's time to think outside the box. If Tyreke can't be stopped by most pgs driving to the basket, he's certainly not going to be stopped by 3s. But on the wing he has the option to throw the cross court pass when they load up on him. There is no cross court pass from the top of the key. At the wing he can get in a position to take two steps to get into the paint and take a shot. (He actually did that in a previous game and it was so nice to see; no dribble, dribble, dribble; just 2 steps and a short jump shot that was converted). He can't do that from the top of the key. The opposing team just builds the wall, wait for him to shoot with his right hand (or pass it out) and dial in on him like a cruise missile. Just as important, IT can get time at the point to utilize his strength, which is a versatile ballhandler. I'd rather have IT as the floor general with Tyreke as the finisher. By the way, I see no downside to this experiment. Are we really going to lose more over say the next 10 games if small ball is utilized at various points in the game? Just look at the alternative for an answer to that question.
