Trade Hickson and Jimmer

twslam07

All-Star
As you all know, the trade deadline is approaching. There have been reports that the King's have been actively trying to trade Hickson. I thought of a trade that might work for us.

Fredette
Hickson

for

Wes Johnson

This will give us a young SF who has the ability to hit the 3 and defend his position well. This clears up room for Beasley and D. Williams to play SF. Hickson will fit nicely and bring some energy and athleticism to their big man rotation (Love, Pekovic, and Milicic). Fredette might be able to find a nice role being a kickout shooter for Rubio and Ridnour.

I'm a big fan of A. Davis and Drummond in this years draft. I think they would both be excellent fits next to Cousins for years and years to come. It would be in the King's best interest to try and trade up in the draft if we don't win the lottery (which is unlikely). A trade was proposed in an earlier thread that I particularly liked.

1st Round Pick
Thornton

for

1st/2nd Overall Pick

This would ensure us of Davis or Drummond. Thornton may seem like a big loss, but it's not as bad as you think. We have Evans who can/is made to play SG.

Thornton is a great scorer that much is certain, but he is very selfish and a poor defender. I've always supported the team concept and Thornton seems like he doesn't want to buy into it. Considering he is still young and a great scorer he might just be the player to make this trade work.

When free agency comes around we could sign Hinrich, who is a good shooter, passer, and defedner, for around 4-5 million a year for 3 years. In addition we could outbid Portland for Batum, who is athletic, a good shooter, and a good defender, for around 9 million a year for 4 years. If we can't sign Batum then I suggest Chandler or Kirilenko.

If we amnesty Salmons next offseason our lineup could look like this:

PG - Hinrich/Thomas
SG - Evans/Garcia
SF - Batum/Johnson/Honeycutt/Outlaw
PF - Davis/Thompson/Hayes
C - Cousins/Whiteside

Hinrich, Thomas, Garcia, Batum, and Johnson all have the ability to knock down the 3. This will make Evans even more dangerous with defenders having to respect our perimeter shooters while he is driving. Even Cousins, Davis, and Thompson would be able to hit those open 12-15 foot jumpers if there man collapses on Evans.

Also we will not have any liabilities on defense which would be refreshing for a change.

No chance I'd trade Jimmer and get Wes Johnson back in return.

Wes Johnson? Wes Johnson is looking like a full on bust at this point.

Lots of interesting full on vets talked about as available hwoever. Gerald Wallace, Josh Smith, Kaman, Boris Diaw, etc. Just my great fear right now is that the way Smart is running things we could go out and acquire a veteran fix for our SF hole and he'd put them at PF and leave us with the same hole at SF. Worried he might do that with Kirilenko too. I hate not trusting my coach, and I can't remember the last time I did.

Instead of going after Wes Johnson (no thanks) why not look at another team brimming with wing players that could fill our "3" spot. Denver. Corey Brewer or Jordan Hamilton? Yes please!

Both are solid shooters, decent (or better) defenders and still young. Denver has a glut of wing players too, so they may be ok with making a deal, especially if it clears up room to help them sign Chandler in the off season.

Smart is playing Whiteside. How does that fit into the small-ball bias?

Wes Johnson is a good buy-low guy right now but I dont' want to give up Jimmer for him because Jimmer is also at an all-time low. I think both Wes and Jimmer are going to be much better players a couple years from now. I'd trade Donte for Johnson cause I think Greene has reached his ceiling while Wes still got ways to go and also Donte is likely leaving this team in the summer anyway.

Smart is barely playing him because of Hickson's absence. There are 96 big man minutes a game, 106 in an OT game. Against New Orleans our actualy big guys (Thompson, Hayes, Whiteside, Cousins, Hickson) played 66/96 total minutes. Against Denver it was 83/106 in OT. Against Phoenix 63/96. Its gotten ridiculous.

Or we could just play Greene and pretty get the same exact player as Wes Johnson with perhaps better defense.

I trusted Musselman. I was wrong.

I'd still love to land Gerald Wallace. I'd like Kaman as well off the bench behind Cousins. Strangely, everything I've read in the Minny papers says their trying to move Beasley and not Johnson. I still think Johnson will end up being a good player. However, if were going to trade for a SF, then lets trade for one thats already arrived.

hickson and Jimmer I would love to unload. wes would be a good pickup, he is long athletic plays good d, can shoot the 3 and has good size. trading Thornton to move up I wouldn't do though

smart pulling another jeremy lin? yessir!

Why? We already have 3 young guards who have shown they can be at least good players in this league. Besides Johnson is a top 5 talent and in his second year. He needs time as well.

Johnson is in his second year and is a top 5 talent. I'm not sure why people are so quick to give up on players. He would only be our backup SF anyway. You wouldn't take a chance on a player who was drafted in the top 5 two years ago to be your backup SF? Interesting...

I've always liked Brewer. I wouldn't mind him being our backup SF in this scenario as well. I chose to go after Johnson because of his potential.

I like Hamilton too but Hickson and Jimmer would be giving up to much in my eyes.

I agree that both will be good players one day in this league. If we could get Johnson for Greene. I would for sure do it. Sadly I do not think his value is next to nothing like Greene's value is. Johnson is only in his second year and has much potential. I don't think they let him go that easily.

Id rather trade IT than jimmer. Jimmer's outside shooting fits perfectly with reke and cuz. Plus hes just starting to get comfortable and show us some of what he can do.

This is depressing.

But Thomas's defense fits a lot better with the entire team. Jimmer is a liability on defense and I haven't seen much from him that he will be a good defender one day.

Johnson has way more potential than Greene. Johnson has the tools to be a good shooter, rebounder, passer, and defender. He just needs to put it together.

Patience my friend. We shouldn't tie ourselves down with the salaries of Wallace and Kaman when our youngsters aren't close to hitting their prime. I know it would be more fun to watch them right now if they had Kaman and Wallace but it won't be in our best interest. We need to add some young pieces and then go after the big time vets when Evans and Cousins begin to blossom.

Also Johnson would be a backup in this scenario. The other SFs I suggested to start for us are more established.

The way I see it scoring SGs are a dime a dozen (We actually have two - Evans and Thornton). A young athletic power forward who rebounds and blocks shots at the rate Davis does are hard to come by. In addition, Cousins perfect compliment is that exact type of player. That pick would lock up our frontcourt for years and years to come.

There is a problem in waiting and that is that our youngsters will be off their rookie contracts and will demand a lot more money. This will leave very little cap space to add a vet exactly at the time we need one. I'd rather be premature than too late but that's my preference.
