Trade down in the draft?

As we stand right now, it looks like we'll pick somewhere between 10-12. Unfortunately, looking at the tiers of quality and what our team needs, it's a veritable no-man's land. We miss the premier PFs and PGs by a few picks, and in terms of best players available, we'd be mired in a sea of swingmen.

There is a solution, however, that could get us two quality players to address our needs: Trading with the Nets. The Nets could use a swing, and have two picks in the first round that could help us.

Say we trade our first rounder (assume its #10) for New Jersey's (15) and the one they got from Dallas (22). The Nets could draft the swingman they've always wanted (Batum? Budinger?) and we could get potential solutions for both weaknesses, picking Darren Collison at #15 and Jason Thompson at #22.

Of course, there's still a long ways before the draft. Player values can change, especially in the NCAA Tournament; we could continue taking; and the lottery could be a big break. I'm just saying, as it stands now, this could be a potentially interesting scenario to consider.

I doubt we would be able to trade down in the draft but we might be able to trade one of our veterans for a later pick in the draft.

Befer even THINKING of trading DOWN, GP ought to try desperatly to trade UP to a top 3. This is more like a normal draft in that there is no Lebron or even Greg Oden BUT this team HAS to get a domanant player some where and I don't see any likely sign and trades this year that will bring it so it's worth the gamble if you can get one o ry and draft a guy who could develop into a serious go to guy.

How about Miller to Miami for Blount, Wright and a swap of picks.

Miami drafts Beastly and we make the trade before our pick. Wright has some potential, but wouldn't see time behind the Matrix and Davis. Blount's contract sucks so that adds to the pros for them. They have some money coming off the books too so they could nab a FA like Duhon and make a run at the title again. Wade-Marion-Miller is a pretty dynamic core.

we don't have the ammo on the roster to rade for a top 3 pick. I doubt even Kevin Martin could land us in the top 3 at this point. What i WILL be bummed about though, is if teams are selling draft choices again this year and the Kings make zero effort to try to land one. Seems like the picks at the bottom end of the first round are pretty easy to trade/buy for.

Trading down seems to happen much more in the NBA, but if there isn't anyone available that the Kings are dying to have, then I wouldn't mind them trading down as well. The only way the Kings are moving top 3 in the draft is by moving Martin, and I don't think that's much of a good idea.

I keep hoping we won't have to trade up. If we could just go 2-17 (Both against the Lakers) we would be 30-52. That should be good for 8th if the east would just win some games. It seems like New Jersey, Atlanta, and Chicago should all be catchable. Somebody in the East should be trying to make the Playoffs.

My brain fart. Not what I meant. I meant to say that trading seems to happen with much more frequency in the NFL. Of course, that's obvious due to the sheer numbers, but I just don't see it much in the NBA - at least not recently. Not that I've been paying attention. Someone will surely to the research to spite me.

I think we keep our pick, we are 4-7 since allstar break. we have 10 more games this month. Portland, Suns,Tor, Gsw, Spurs, Griz, Rockets ,Griz, Wash, Sonics, i think we might win two (Seattle and Memphis)

Then we have 9 next month. lol....Hou,Clipps,Den,Lakers,Gsw, Portland, Hornets,Spurs and Lakers.....

Houston/Denver/Hornets are in a close race...so thats scary.

Duncan is as good as he is due mainly to playing at Wake Forest for 4 years and getting his degree to boot. Love is a long way from being a Tim Duncan. He is closer to Chris Kaman as a freshman but runs better (younger legs).

Petrie doesn't need to trade down. Likely the Kings end up 12 or 13 in the lottery and he takes best available, which happened to be 3 skinny 6-7 shooters in a row who all were near the top of NCAA in scoring.

Backup PG's will be at 13, maybe a Euro or Latin or two and definitely some bigs who are Jr or Sr who keep their cool under all sorts of frustrations. Like I think Shelden is. A trade on draft day is more likely.

It's possible. The way that Brad has played this year offensively he has value again. I am willing to go into a "full rebuild" and get Brad out of here if we can get a pick for him.

I am pretty sure San Antonio would be a team that would be interested. they have tried and tried and TRIED to get a legitimate center in there, and if they are wanting to go for the title again before Duncan retires they might want to bring in Brad to play some center. It would make San Antonio a great team.

Another team that could use Brad's services is Boston. But we are talking end of the first round picks here, and they aren't much better than a 2nd rounder..

Actually could be worse in some situations because of obligated salary.

Right now, both nbadraft.net and draftexpress have Anthony Randolph on the board when it's our pick. If he's available, I really want the Kings to get this guy. If not, then I'd be fine with trading down I guess, unless someone unexpected slips to us

Why would Miami give up Beasley for Miller? Wade and Beasley could dominate the East for many years.
