Not talking about immediate future, but Kings would do great to grab Chinanu Onuaku from Rockets. I wrote about him a bit during 2016 pre-draft: brother of former Syracuse center; unlike many guys, who stay a year in middle school, so that they are older/more physically mature than their competition, so they look more dominant, Onuaku came to college as 17 y.o. and looked extremely raw; as a sophomore he was a high impact player in ACC, and if he stayed for this year, he would probably be in consideration for NCAA POY; got drafted in the second round, because he's not a high-flier and being still 19 didn't have a high skill level; after working on his game during draft process and with Rockets/D-League trainers he continued to improve his game by leaps and bounds at times looking like this (you can see Papagiannis in some parts of the clip as well
):
It's not just moments here and there. Here's his comparison to Skal's stint in D-League, who many is clamoring to give meaningful NBA time to:
-----------TS%----FT%----ASTratio---TOratio--USG%---OReb%---DReb%-------TeamOff.per100------------------TeamDef.per100
Nanu----.684----.716--------13.4--------20.1-----17.7------14.4--------24.7-----114.2(3rd on the team)------104.5(best on the team by a margin)
Skal-----.507----.708---------6.1---------13.5-----23.4------9.6--------17.2----97.7(tied w/Papa for worst)--109.1(3-way tie w/Papa for worst)
So Onuaku is a better finisher, rebounder, defender, passer. He even started shooting 3s already, which means he probably drains them in practice at a pretty decent clip. And btw Nanu is half a year younger than Skal.
Note: you can explain rebounding numbers in part by C vs PF; and bad shooting percentage from the floor is probably the result of team forcing Skal to work on his post moves, but those are mostly on 6'7", 215 guys, not sure, he'll see many of those in the big league. Skal is and will always be a more skilled player, but he plays the game like tall SF, and for that position Labissiere is very much underskilled. Meanwhile Onuaku looks well on his way to become a skilled and very physical PF/C.
