Trade: Christie for Mobley (MERGED)

I just wonder why the Magic did this deal? Do they have a player waiting to emerge at SG that was being held back by Mobley's presence on the team, or did they think he was taking too many shots from players who should otherwise be taking them (Hill, Francis, Rookie Howard, etc.)? I'd be interested to read some insight on that side of the spectrum...anyone know a Magic fans' forum?

Yeah, they have a fantastic young player with all sorts of potential.

We are not really upset. More like shocked and sentimental here. We support Kings and appreciate when a player gives everything at all time.

Doug Christie really liked to play for Kings.

Exactly!! People need to have time for their emotions. Kings fans are a very loyal bunch (on the whole) and that is one of the reasons we are great fans. We are passionate about our players.......they feel like family to us.

So, give people time. Like piksi said earlier, let people have their feelings right now, and tomorrow we can talk about the future. There are times when it is totally appropriate to "dwell on" the past.

For the record, Bradley was thrown in because they needed to make the numbers work. He's been on the IL twice this year already with hamstring problems so I doubt if the whole trade was centered around him.

One thought does occur, however...Did we have TWO roster slots open? Or will someone have to go *cough Bye, bye Erick cough* to make room for Bradley?

Well we still have plenty of room on the injured reserve.

I think this is a trade that the fans of both teams will hate initially, but will come to see the benefits with time.

that is a sensible outlook that i wish we all could just grasp right now. kinda hard, tho. doug's been one of sacto's mainstays. he's been the one constant for the kings these past 5 seasons, relatively healthy and always ready to play. one of the most respectable and upstanding guys we've ever had in sacramento. he will be dearly missed.

This is a good trade for us. The only problem is.........just like Vlade, he was a great part to the community, and the Kings, and the fans are going to lose a very respected, and talented man in Sacramento.

And at least one person is being way too critical of people who are trying to deal with something that totally blindsided them.

Let people express their feelings; let them rant; let them rationalize; etc. It's not up to you to judge their comments.

There is a thread for dealing with Doug and this thread is about the trade. People are talking about the trade here, they are underselling Doug's defense. This is a forum, where people read what others say and respond. So yes, it's up to me if I want to judge people's comments and respond. Otherwise it wouldn't be a forum.

Chad Ford is on KHTK and he just said he thinks it's a win/win for both teams...
I guess that means it's not.(lol)

thats the only issue im probably worried about... the fact that he was traded makes it even harder... with vlade although i missed him he wasnt signed as a fa...

Oh yeah... How could I forget that?

Thanks.

You know, one thing just occurred to me. If Orlando fans are that pissed, this could be another sign that Petrie has - once again - pulled off something I'll come to point to down the road as another indication of his wisdom and skill as a GM.

::comes into thread shaking head::

I was watching the Wolves Lakers game and saw it flash on the bottomline...and i was like "Um what?" I actually rewound it back (TiVo) to read it again just in case i didn't read it correctly...but sure enough i was right the first time...so then i ran to the computer to see how everyone else was doing on the site

Im not angered..which in a way is surprising....but im just saddened...i didn't see this coming AT ALL...but who did? Im down for Cat to come over but at the expense of DC...thats tough man...whoa!

I miss him already...::tear::

But Cuttino is a King now and we ALL have to do our best to welcome him as a King...remember he wasn't the one who asked to be traded to the Sacramento Kings...thats just the way the cookie crumpled...so no bitterness or hostility

the best thing about the whole trade is no more Jackie Christie...eeeh maybe its too early for jokes...sorry bout that

Good Luck in the Orlando DC
Thanks for the good times!

Could you please tell me WTH Orlando fans know about winning??

To answer a few questions from what I've heard once Mobley is here he will start. Don't quote me on that, but that's what I've gathered from listening to the Radio. He's a starter and still has more experience thatn Mo.

Also, Eric Daniels has been placed on the IR list to make room for Bradley.

If Vlade's number is going to be retired, I sure hope that DC's number gets retired as well.

I think it would be a great gesture if on 3/15 the whole ARCO raised their arm and acknowledged Doug and how much he meant for us.

We'll miss you DC.

Wow. Interesting to look at it from the "other side". But, I think the people who are cutting down Christie are just looking at his numbers, and don't have a feel for the passion and inspiration he brings to the game. To me, the intangibles that Christie offers are far more impressive than the numbers he posts.

I thought of that myself...DC gets traded to the Magic, and it will be interesting to see if Hedo can beat out DC for a starting role there...

Time will tell. I have a feeling that CM might not be a King for a long time. Contract expiring fairly soon. He will ask for max - will not get it - sign and trade.
Orlando has Turkoglu who is playing well ans DC's contract expiring soon - cap space.

Might be a win - win

What a stupid move by PETRIE!!

Christie for some guy named Mobley?

Not trying to infringe on anyones right to comment on how they feel about the trade, BUT, there's always a but. You might want to be informed on who the player(s) we traded for BEFORE jump to any conclusions.

Actually, you're wrong again. The other thread is an open letter of gratitude to Doug.

This thread is the "official" thread about everything related to the trade. People are posting their impressions. Some of them may talk more about Doug's defensive presence; others may discuss what they think the long-range benefits of the trade are. Some may even change their minds as more time goes by and the reality of the situation sinks in.

All you've done so far is make comments like "they are underselling Doug's defense."

Well, how? Where? Who? All I'm really saying is that instead of vague blanket criticisms of some of the posts here, quote one - just like you did mine - and let's discuss it instead of just generalizing about "a lot of people severely underplaying Doug's defense".

I don't think people are "cutting down" Christie in any way. I just think that, aware of the importance of the intangibles, we're trying to work with how this trade is going to help the Kings.

You got my post wrong P... I was talking about how the Magic fans are reacting from the links posted above. They have nobody on the forums saying this is good for them.

Here at least its a mix. They (Orlando fans) are seeing this as the worst trade ever. Interesting take both perspectives, put all personal things aside and this looks to be a good trade for us.

I love DC and what he has meant for us. Most of all as I said above this is a biz and as a fan I want a championship. Is CM gonna do that for us? Who knows but I am kinda excited about it all

Heres some Christie notes:

Christie has been named to the NBA All-Defensive First or Second Team for four consecutive seasons (First Team in 2002-03; Second Team in 2000-01, 2001-02 and 2003-04). He has ranked among the NBA’s top five in steals in seven of the last eight seasons and is the only player to rank in the top five in each of the past four campaigns. Entering this season, Christie ranked 17th on the league’s all-time steals average leaders.

he's lookin to the future. we have, all of a sudden, become a much younger team. mobley's 29. miller's 28. peja's 27. bibby's 26. and webber's the old fart in the starting lineup at 31 years old. with guys like mo evans, kevin martin, and darius songaila coming off the bench, you are looking at amuch younger and more brisk kings team.

LOL quoting my own post :) haha

Reread what you said P... read it wrong the first time

I agree DC is loved by all fans here. Very shocking news for sure, I think he was one of the last players anyone thought would be traded.

I want to make it clear that the sky is not falling, but this season may have just ended.

Mobley is a great player from what I have seen but it takes time to integrate a new player into the rotation and mid season is a bad time to try. Especially when the team is already in a mess.

In addition Doug was one of the few Kings who played good defense and it seems that Mobley is more run and gun in style.

We need to learn how to play good defense if we are going to win titles.

Long term this probably is a good move, younger for older. But in the short term I think it will be a 1st round exit this year.

Good point about the midseason trade, although I won't agree with you regarding the result. This type of move is uncommon for Petrie. Either he thought it was too good to pass up or the team was struggling too much to not make a move. I believe it's the former. I hate to see Doug go like this, and it's too idealistic to think this could be our Rasheed Wallace-like move... but I'm willing to wait and see.
