[Quick Notes]
This was a rough game for Fredette. He did not shoot the ball well at all in this one, especially from the 3pt line where he went 2 of 8. Because he wasn’t hitting his outside shot, he drove into the lane a lot more.

He had his shot blocked quite a few times, but got to the line 16 times, making 14 of those free attempts.

He really got beat up in this game, and the fact that he was driving into traffic all night long didn’t make things easy for him.

He had an abnormally high amount of turn-overs and he didn’t set up his teammates as well in this one as I’ve seen in other games.

All that said, he still ended up with 34 points.
Not a great game at all by Fredette, but still the most impactful player on the court.

Saw the game, and is it just me, or do you also think that they allow Fredette to just get mugged. I swear to god, that despite going to the line as many times as he did, if it had been the NBA, he would have gone to the line another 5 or 6 times. I think he's going to think he's gone from football to basketball. It would be fun to see what he could do if he had a game where he had a bunch of open shots.

I agree with you.

He did get killed out there, and the play where he had the turn-over at mid-court was a good example of contact that could have been called for a foul, but wasn't. At the same time I think a lot of it came because his shot wasn't fallling and so he was taking it inside a lot more. Which to be honest, I was happy to see. If he's not feeling it, and feel he can be successful taking it inside, then it's good to see him switch gears and go to something that is going to work for him.

He does that a lot. His outside shot hasn't been falling for the last few games now, but he's still getting his points by driving to the basket. In the game before this last one he had nine assists from driving and dishing. I think all the minutes he's been playing are catching up with him. Tired legs usually equals missed jumpshots.. Too bad because his team is going to really need him with the loss of Davies.

[Quick Notes]
This seemed like a classic Kemba Walker game.

He had 6 points on 8 shots in the 1st half and 21 points on 19 shots in the 2nd half.

You look at the 27 points at the end of the game, and think perhaps it was a good game, but it really wasn’t all that impressive.

Now, his outside shot was certainly off tonight, but he did do a good job penetrating and getting into the lane. But he missed the majority of his shots in the lane.

For the last 10 minutes or so of the 1st half, he was pretty passive, as Marquette’s zone really seemed to bother him.

In the 2nd half he was much more aggressive, putting up those 19 shots, but really not that more effective.

He made some nice passes, but ended with only 2 assists, as in the 2nd game he was looking to score far more than run the offense or set up his teammates.

27 points is nice, but not when it comes on 27 shots and only 2 assists.

Your right, typical Walker game. He's suspossed to be a PG. Problem is, he doesn't make anyone else on his team better. I'll be honest, he reminds me a lot of Allen Iverson. And I wasn't a big fan of Iversons.

Then blocked another shot at the rim when Murray St came back and put up a shot in transition.

Offensive rebound and makes hook putback.

[Quick Notes]
Faried ended up with 15 points on 5/10 shooting. He isn’t an offensive player, he gets his points from hustling and be active around the rim.

In this one, most of his points seemed to come in the last few minutes of the game.

Even though he isn’t a great offensive player, he is so athletic, that he was being
double and even triple-teamed in the post. I don’t think he has a natural feel for scoring, though he made some nice moves, but he can score around the basket due to his immense athletic talent.

He had a sub-par rebounding game with only 13, but of those 13 rebounds, 8 of them were on the offensive glass, where he was very active.

He did a great job on defense and ended up with 4 blocks, two of them on fast-break attempts where he scored the bucket then ran down the court to block the shot at the rim. He is incredibly quick, with good lateral movement and fantastic hops.

He’s just highly, highly athletic, with an incredible motor. You’re not going to be able to go to him for offensive, but at the same time, you won’t have to go to him, as he’ll pick up his points from offensive rebounds and hustle plays.

I can’t think of too many teams who couldn’t find a use for a guy like this on their team, as he brings elite rebounding and great defense with fantastic athleticism.

Tough shot in the lane which missed.

Great drive to the lane to draw the defenders then hit Davies cutting into the lane for the slam.

[Quick Notes]
An interesting game from Fredette. He didn’t shoot the ball well from the floor (8/23) though he did shoot it well from the 3pt line. (4/8)

He started off the game well, then went through a shooting stretch where he missed 8 of 9, then got hot and then cooled down missing his last 5 shots.

So 25 points on 23 shots is not good.

However, he also ended up with 9 assists, and he was doing a good job finding the open man on the double.

For the most part San Diego State was playing very physical, and he didn’t get a lot of calls which he could have gotten.

This was an important game, and he played extremely well in a number of stretches, but there were a number of bad shots he put up, as well as some turn-overs. Not his best game.

Missed open 3 on left wing.
Good pass up ahead to push fast-break and lead to easy lay-up.
Out at 3 minute mark with the game decided.

[Quick Notes]
A very offensively efficient game from Taylor in this one. He was very aggressive going to the basket and ended up with 12 FT attempts.

He had a lot of great dunks which helped him to shoot 6/8 from the field, and he hit 1 ofhis 2 3pt attempts.

Though he got beat a couple of times in the game, he played very good defense through-out this one, which is one of the reasons I’m so high on him.

His rebounding was way down however, so that was the worst part of his game.

But if he can continue to show offensive aggression and efficiency for the remainder of the season while continuing to play some of the best perimeter defense in the league, he’s going to really help his draft status.

Texas at Colorado (2/26/2011)

Good drive into the lane and made basket between 2 defenders.
Hit 3pt shot from the left wing.
Missed 3pt shot from the left wing.
Made 3pt shot from the left wing.

[Quick Notes]
A bad game for Hamilton. He shot the ball poorly all night long, but kept on putting up shots. He only had 5 points in the 1st half.

In the second he only had 7 points until the final minute or so of play, where he rattled off 8 points to keep Texas in the game.

But even with those important shots in the last minute, he took way too many shots, and too many 3pt shots in particular.

Just a very inefficient game from Hamilton.

He ended the game with 7 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. The rebounds are around his average and the blocks where nice. He did play decent defense on Burks in the 1st half.

[Quick Notes]
Terrence Jones really suffered from foul trouble in this one.

He missed the last 6 minutes of the 1st half with foul trouble, and got his 3rd 4 minutes into the second half, and that might have somewhat impacted his aggression for a good part of the 2nd half.

He ended the game with only 8 points on 4/11 shooting.

What was interesting is that he got the ball a lot more on the right block than I’ve seen from him in the past.
He always ends up spinning to his left, but it was good to see him try to expand his offense by working different positions.

He did well on the boards with 9 and made some critical plays in the final minutes of this game.
It was a below-average game from him, but he still did some good things, so it wasn’t a horrible outing.

Brandon Knight had a fantastic game. 16 points on 5/10 shooting with 6 assists and 0 turn-overs.

He shot the ball well, was aggressive with the dribble-drive, and did a great job finding the open man.

His defense was very good. Miller was the best player for Kentucky in this one, however Knight had a very strong game with his over-all offensive effeciency.

A lot of fighting for a defensive rebound. Didn’t get the rebound, but got a nice block on the shot put up.

A strong 1st half of basketball from Jones, and it’s play like that which reminds me of the potential he has, and why he could be a good choice in the top 5 of the draft.

He made a lot of smooth plays in the 1st, being aggressive off the dribble, hitting his outside shot, and being fairly aggressive on the boards.

He had a decent 2nd half, but didn’t shoot as well or rebound as well. I think he was less aggressive because it seemed as if the 2nd half centered more about Dunn and his scoring.

One of the more aggressive outings I’ve seen from Jones, especially in the 1st half, and it’s something I wish I saw a lot more of out of him on a game-to-game and half-to-half basis.

I'm not sure how Knights game is going to translate to the NBA as a PG. He certainly has PG skills, and in Calapari's undisciplined and very loose style of play, its really hard to get a read on Knight from that aspect. But two things I do know. The Kid can score the ball from anywhere on the floor, and he's a very, very good defender. So I have no doubt that he'll find a place in the NBA. He has very good size for a PG at 6'3", and he is a good passer, but like Fredette, he sometimes tries to do too much with the ball and drives into trouble.

Once again, like Fredette, I think he'll find the NBA a welcome sight, where they can't just live in the paint and play goalie.

I would prefer to pair Tyreke up with someone of size as his backcourt mate, but if we were to pick someone from the draft to pair up with, then Knight would definitely be someone I'd consider.

As you mention he has some PG skills, he is a very good outside shooter (especially when his feet are set), and he's a very good defender. He isn't anywhere near the dynamic scorer that Fredette is, and one of the reasons why is that he doesn't drive to the basket the way that Fredette does.

Fredette has that wonderful little cross-over that he uses to give himself the space needed to get into the lane, while Knight doesn't have that move at the moment and relies mostly on raw speed to get himself free.

So Fredette looks very comfortable attacking the rim and Knight sometimes can be passive and uncertain about how to go about attacking. I think that in this case, it's just the difference of experience, but Fredette's currently at a whole other level as far as scoring.

But Knight is going to be a better defender than Fredette because he's a lot more athletic, and Knight seems to have more 'pass-first' in him than Fredette. (Though Fredette has proven he can set people up)

Personally, Fredette and Knight among the few players in this draft that I'd consider pairing up with Tyreke. Knight gives you better defense and slightly better PG skills, while Fredette gives you more dynamic scoring.

Unfortunately, unless the Kings pull off some sort of trade, I don't see either of these players getting picked by the Kings due to where our draft selection is currently slotted to be.

Got offensive rebound and put the ball back in for 2.

[Quick Notes]
Barnes started off really hot in this one hitting 3 of his first 4 shots, all 3-pt buckets for 9 points.

Then he went very, very cold. He scored 6 points on back-to-back-to-back buckets at around the 12 minute mark of the 2nd half, but beyond those 7 shots he was 2 of 15. Ouch.

I do have to say that even though he shot the ball terribly, I like his game far, far more than I did earlier in the year. Early in the year, he was just invisible. At least he’s now making his presence known.

To be honest I think I’ve seen enough to move him ahead of Jordan Hamilton as a SG prospect.

I think he’s a better ball handler and defender and might be slightly more athletic than Hamilton. Hamilton’s a good shooter, but his shot is a bit flat, while Barnes isn’t and Barnes is younger and I like his demeanor a bit more.

So this wasn’t that great of a game for Barnes, but there were some good things which I saw.

Kansas State at Texas (02/28/2011)

[Quick Notes]
A miserable game from Hamilton in this one.

He was 5/18 for 14 points and just never got into any sort of offensive rhythm.

He rebounded the ball well, which he is always consistent doing, but his shot was not falling, and it didn’t feel as if he was working well with-in the offense in this one.

Tristan Thompson had a very good game for Texasa in this one, probably one of his best of the year.

Don't be hatin' on my boy Brandon Knight. He's going to be a productive player for somebody in the NBA, book it. I don't know what his ceiling exactly will be but atleast he should be able to provide a good scoring punch for somebody starting or off the bench.

Neither I nor Uncia03 are hating on your boy Brandon Knight. Actually, we both like him. But we call it like we see it game by game. I think he's very talented. I'm not sure I'd rave about his point guard skills just yet. But he's very young. I don't expect him to Chis Paul just yet.

Oh I agree about his lack of point guard skills, to me he seems more of a scoring PG but you never know how he can turn out. He might not be a Chris Paul but I don't see why he couldn't average 6 or 7 assists a game with maybe 17-20 points if he really works on his overall game.

Wow. P Jones is suspended for the rest of the year. Was hoping to see what he could do in the tournament.

why was he suspended?

Looks like his mother received three 15-day loans from his AAU coach while Perry Jones was in high school. (I kind of guess by 15-day loan that she needed a boost to make a rent payment...) Anyway apparently Jones didn't know about it but the NCAA is considering it an illegal benefit. Baylor is appealing, so we will see. I'd normally say the NCAA wouldn't be very lenient, but then look at the whole Cam Newton mess this year - he was reinstated after what would appear to be much worse violations. Even so, Baylor is on the bubble big time and not having Jones in the Big-12 tourney will really hurt their chances of making the Big Dance, so even if Jones is reinstated it may be too late.

why was he suspended?

The NCAA ruled that his family received inappropriate benefits from an AAU coach while he was high school. It's the same thing that a lot of top prospects have dealt with, and the suspension didn't involve anything Perry Jones did this season so I don't think the suspension affects his draft stock at all. Just his ability to play in the tournament (which will affect his draft stock most likely). Did I mention before that I'm not fond of the NCAA?

Probably a fitting end to his less than spectacular season. You wern't going to see him in the tournament regardless, because Baylor isn't going to make the tournament. They've had a terrible season.

Man, would Kemba Walker look good as our pg or what?

I'm not a big fan of Kemba Walker, and I've seen him play over 20 times this year. He just reminds me too much of Allen Iverson. Of course there are those that loved AI. He's really a shooting guard trapped in a PG's body. There have multible times this year where Walker has taken more shots than the entire starting lineup combined. To me, thats not a PG.

I trust your opinion. I've seen Walker maybe 4 or 5 times this season, including today. I love his shooting ability though. Since you've watched him 20+ times, do you think he shoots so much because he's the most lethal weapon UConn has, and they need him to do just that, or is it just what he is as a player, and you expect him to continue to look for his shot in the NBA?

Irving makes me nervous, given we haven't seen much, if anything from his this year. I'm not certain he also won't be more of a scoring point in the NBA.

I hate to be harsh, but Baylor may play better without Jones. He's been underwhelming to say the least. That aside, the only chance Baylor has of making the big show is to win the Big Twelve tournament. Their chance of doing that would require and act of god. There are seven teams that are better than they are, including top ranked Kansas, Texas, and Texas A&M. Missouri at 23-9, Kansas St. at 22-9, and Colorado at 20-12 are all superior teams to Baylor at 18-13. The big 12 is one of the toughest conferences in college. Is it possible for them to win the tournament? Anythings possible. But I wouldn't even bet your money on it.

Rumor has it, and I can't confirm it, that Walker was told that he should look for his shot more this season. If true, it would help explain the volume of shots he takes. However, in my humble opinion, common sense should dictate at some point during a game that your shot just isn't falling tonight and maybe you might need to do something else. He's undersized to start with in a league thats seems to be full of 6'2"/6'4" PG's. Walker is listed at 6'0", and I'd bet your life that he's not that tall. He is very quick, and handles the ball very well. He's also a very pesky defender, and appears to be stronger than his size belies.

He definitely has talent, and if he were to apply that talent toward being a PG, then he'd be a good pickup. But he scares me. There's no way anyone will take him in the top 5, and possibly not the top 10. His draft position has come crashing down along with his shooting percentage.

I only got to see Irving play 3 times before he got injuried. I'm kicking myself because I had the opportunity to record two other games and didn't. Irving is a pass first PG, so you don't need to worry him always looking for his own shot. I think he's very talented. The kid I love is Kendall Marshall of North Carolina, but my gut tells me he's going to stay in school another year. But if not, I'd try and find a way to get him. He's not as quick as some of the others, but as Uncia03 said, he seems to have eyes in the back of his head.
